Perfect beaches. Sparkling sea views. Warm summer nights. This should be the perfect summer vacation.
Not for Ana Merrick, who is already at the end of her rope—and possibly her teaching career—when she arrives in Greece for her dreaded annual family vacation. How is she supposed to survive yet another summer sharing a fence with Thanos Roussos, the guy who once used her bra as a slingshot?
Unfortunately, this summer won’t give Ana the option of keeping her distance from her alarmingly attractive nemesis.
When Ana’s big, fat Greek family volunteers her for what appears to be the perfect summer job—teaching English to summer school students—she’s horrified to discover it’s a two-person project. And here is Thanos Roussos, middle school PE teacher, conveniently ready and able to swoop in and wrangle teenagers alongside Ana. They’ll be breathing the same air. Inhaling the same eye-watering BO and cologne. Begging their students to put down their phones with the same exasperated tone. And they’ll have do it while fighting their natural urge to strangle each other, figuratively speaking. Won’t they?
Maybe not. Thanos is different this summer. The way he looks at her makes her almost believe that this leopard has changed his spots. Before long, teaching alongside her sworn enemy is fast becoming the most fun she’s ever during a scorching Greek summer. And yet hanging over her head is the possibility that their forbidden attraction might be nothing more than another one of Thanos’s pranks.
The Summer War is a clean romantic comedy with a touch of steam and some mild language. This enemies-to-lovers romcom is packed with laugh-out-loud banter, kooky Greek families, and a whole lot of heart.
Every new release is a one-click must read for me. She paints such a delightful and colorful picture of Greece life. Her character have so much dimension. This was a sweet and hilarious romantic comedy. Read it in one day. Couldn’t put it down.
This was so much fun to read. It was a "one sitting" read as I could not put it down. Alex A King, thank you so much for sharing your wildly funny, brilliant stories.!
I love King's Kat Makris Greek Mafia series, and the Greek Ghouls series. I haven't been able (yet) to get into her Women of Greece series. But now? Now I have to try them again. I LOVED The Summer War! Loved it! Ana and Thanos are fun together, and their families and neighbors are a colorful cast. Family and friends are key in all King's books, and so is the humor. I have to read her books at night - when I'm not eating. Not near food or drink. This is because when the humor comes flying, I'm snorting and laughing out loud. There is poignancy with the laughter, great action, and a lovely sense of setting. I was sorry to finish this one!
I'd love to see these characters again, and I look forward to trying the Women of Greece again. As for Kat and also the Ghouls series, more please!!
This is a sweet, funny, love story. I enjoyed the banter between the characters, especially Thanos and Ana. And the slice of Greek life portrayed is interesting.
Also having been a teacher, I could picture Ana's problem occurring in reality. The Tik Tok video descriptions were wild. That would have to be one person seriously out for vengeance.
If you like sweet, funny stories, this would be a good book for you. I look forward to reading more from Alex A. King.
Tradition, rivalry, backstabbing, warring neighbors, gossip and secrets. A 100 year feud and thirty years of pranks what could possibly go wrong? Could love possibly win? I highly recommend The Sumer War. If your already an Alex A.King fan you'll love this story if not you will quickly become one and devour all of her books.
Loved this story about evil rivalries gone good. A twist in time and all is revealed. Also a series of fortunate events leads the list of phrases describing this story. Would love to see these characters pop up in other stories. Maybe Donk's English will improve.
Loved this book so much! It truly felt like I was reading the script of a rom/com movie and I kept trying to figure out who I would cast for each part.
There were moments that frustrated me and I kept having to remind myself that these were 30 year olds and not teenagers. But overall, I adored the book and have shared it with so many friends who are looking for cute beach/summer reads!
As with nearly all of Alex A. Kings books, this one, another winner! Love reading about Greece and oh these stories! Ah! I can see them unfurling before my very eyes, fiction! I don't think so!! God, they make me laugh 😂 thanks for another, don't want to end crazy story.
This was a cute, quick, funny read. I’m a longtime fan of King’s Kat Makris series, and while this was an unrelated standalone, it still had her trademark humor, nutty but lovable Greek families, and hot male lead. 4 stars. Recommended.
Hilarious, heartwarming, and full of lots of drama. I couldn't put it down. Alex A King is a very descriptive and imaginative writer. I read everything she writes and I am never disappointed.
It had just the right amount of everything I love about a good romance. Some will she/won't she is about who to love and some guessing about a possible outcome. I love it.
Love this author for her writing style, the characters interactions are always fun and easy to read, this is a standalone book that still shares a great deal about Greece in a fun way too.
Loved everything about this book and quite a few times I literally laughed out loud. Cannot recommend it enough. Alex A King has some great series to read if this is your first book
As all of her books this takes you to the magical world of Greek Islands, mothers and grandmothers and their love lives I always enjoy the humor and short quick chapters in King’s writing style.
I really enjoyed this book and is not only because Ana and I share the same job, but because is a lovely and funny story... Thanos has now part of my heart 💙
