My suggestion for this book - listen to the audio version narrated by Starhawk herself. Nothing in this book is particularly new or earth shattering, but it is a really beautiful, simple synopsis of the core of modern Wiccan/pagan beliefs.
There were some interesting and helpful examples of prayers and ceremonies in this book, but it casts such a wide net that I didn't feel like it had a great deal to offer. It's not a long book but is trying to cover such disparate topics as death and loss, holidays, and everyday meal blessings. It was relaxing to listen to, and I enjoyed it, but at the end of each section I found myself wishing Starhawk would dig into the topic a little deeper rather than moving on.
I would still say it's a good introduction to Wicca, though. It does give a nice overview of some general beliefs and it's a good first impression of what it might look like to move through life's big moments as someone following this or a similar spiritual path.
Quick snapshot of various Wiccan-based practices across many themes, from Starhawk’s own practice. I feel Author could throw in a few extra reminders that “we” in her use means in her practice/coven/tradition, rather than “all Wiccans do/believe X”. Always prefer more disclaimers around prescriptiveness, especially when writing for beginners. Definitely some nice ideas for a quick listen while doing some chores!
Highly recommend, especially if you're new to the practice or need a mini, quick guide. I recommend the audiobook. It's a very fast listen, less than 2 hours.
