Cast in her mother’s next film, Komal Chahal is about to become Pollywood’s newest breakout star! But before that, she needs a London vacation. It’s her only chance to be free, alone, and anonymous before her big career starts.
Except, she didn’t realize the bodyguard is coming along.
Ex-Special Forces Huan Li.
How is she supposed to deal with him?
Hilariously, that’s how.
By taking him along to a messy pub crawl, making him sleep in a shared bunkbed hostel, and forcing him to watch her attempts to pick up men for a one-night stand…
Bodyguards shouldn’t care since they aren’t allowed to fall in love with clients.
Those are the rules, but when hijinks get out of control, professionalism starts slipping away.
And when that happens, Huan and Komal's hearts are suddenly at risk of being compromised.
Will they be able to survive London together? Or will everything fall apart under the bright lights of Pollywood fame?
Komal Needs London is a standalone romance and the first book in the Travelling In Love series, a planned collection of three novels.
Please note, this book is definitely explicitly steamy.
I'm so thankful for the author for giving me a copy of this ARC in exchange for honest review.
All of us can keep dreaming new and different dreams as we go through this life.
The book follows Komal and Huan.
Komal is the daughter of a famous actress. She's 26 and doesn't have a direction or an idea what to do with her life. When a big opportunity presents itself and she's not sure if this is what she actually wants, she takes a spontaneous trip to London, accompanied by Huan, her bodyguard.
Komal has been watching Huan for a while now, but they only had handful conversations before. Now they're stuck together for the trip. With her trying to find herself and him watching her every move.
The story was really fun and with a lot of tension between the two! I liked how they both tried to resist the pull they had
I absolutely love Komal. Her character in general. I relate to her a lot. Her anxiety and overthinking, her want to be liked by people, thinking what will be said about her, her need to figure out what to do in life and what she actually likes.
most of my days feel like copies of each other. The same breakfasts. The same little routine. The same sense of ennui coming out of not having a real purpose.
I’m not sure what I actually want out of my birthday… and life...
Who am I when no one is watching? Why don’t I know the answer to that question? Why can’t I tell if I’m happy right now or not?
Once the twenties are over, they are done. And you’re expected to enjoy the next set of adventures, but what if you started later than everyone?
There are days I wonder whether I’m truly a good daughter, friend, or person… or whether I’ve just gotten good at calculating what the right thing to do is. It's hard to know when you're so attuned to what people want.
As a 20 something with no direction in life myself, I had fun reading her struggle with the same things I'm and probably every person in their twenties is struggling with. Who are we? What do we want to do in this life? What's the actual point? So many important questions Komal pointed out. I liked watching her trying to find herself, trying to stop being a people pleaser and just do what she wants and thinks, without hiding who she really is.
The story was only in Komal's pov except maybe one chapter from Huan. So we get to see him only from what she's seeing. At first I tried to figure him out and I wanted his pov so much, but slowly him and Komal are opening up to one another and we get more of him. He's a bodyguard in profession and personality. He was so protective of Komal in the good way he kept watching over her, trying to make her happy and doing everything he can to help her with everything she needed. He was so sweet.
“Is there an off switch? Stop watching me.” “I can’t.”
Use me, Komal. Use me to stand between you and anything else in the world you don’t like.
“Are you okay?” She drops her head onto my shoulder. “No.” “What is it?" Whatever it is, I'm moving mountains, rivers, villages, anything really, to make it better.
“Komal, you don’t understand how much you own me.”
There were a lot of funny moments between them and between Komal's friends, which I liked a lot. They're good friends who support one another and really care. I liked seeing them interact.
"if you two ever get together, and his past comes back to haunt him, and you have to go into witness protection… How will the two of us communicate?” OMG. “Obviously, we can all go into witness protection together.” With no hesitation, Reena says, “Yeah, I’m down.” “We’ll go somewhere warm.” “Forever vacaaaaaaay.” “And the government will fund our life, so I won’t have to think about acting anymore. Because I’m sure that’s how it works. We wouldn’t need jobs, right?” She scoffs. “They expect us to flee gangs and get a job? Preposterous.”
I enjoyed this book and will be looking out for more, hopefully the other friends!
I have mixed feeling about this one. I love this author, and there were many great elements, but this wasn’t my favorite. It’s a cute sweet, mid angst story, but I found the flow of the writing awkward at times. When the characters were speaking or thinking, I wasn’t entirely clear what they were saying. It could be a “me” issue.
💞 no third act breakup 👩🏻🤝👨🏼. Smart, mature characters (late 20’s, early 30’s). Good character development for both and together as a couple. 🙊 no miscommunication; they both talked about their feelings and pushed the other to be honest when it wasn’t easy 🗣️. Lots of fun banter. This author knows how to write banter that is sharp without being snarky or mean. You can see the genuine affection through their dialogue 🫣. No OW drama; some OM drama before the two MCs are together, but while the MMC is her bodyguard. She tries to hook up a guy in a club and later dances closes with another guy (after the MMC makes it clear he’s not available) and she’s upset. 💂♂️body guard and Pollywood nepo baby searching for her own identity 🧨 slow burn; they get together after more than 50%. Lots of angst/tension before then. The spice is at the right time and continues to the end. 😇 HEA; mostly FMC POV but a few glimpses here and there of MMC’s Perspective. Love the epilogues; especially 2 yrs later.
Komal learns that her (Pollywood star) mother wants her to act with her in an upcoming movie and she decides to take a 3 week getaway to live her life freely before she’s under the bright spotlight that is sure to follow. Against her wishes, the mother sends Huan Li, the young head of security to London with her. Huan is handsome, genuinely good and a bit mysterious, but we can see early on that he is taken with her in a way that he fights against.
She is able to be herself with him, they slowly open up to each other. They each share difficult things about their past and support each other. I love that the sharing is a two way street; both characters feel very equal to each other; even in their different roles.
🫣Favorite parts (in no order; spoilers)🫣 - the forced proximity in London; how you can tell how he feels about her from his body language and how protective he is - the scene in the library and finding the words in books for each other - how he sees underneath her carefully created facade; and how she notices and lets him; and how she sees his softer side and how he carefully cares for everyone around him. She notices HIM and is able to tell him the small acts of kindness she’s seen from him. - the similar scene on the subway when she’s talking about the ads and she’s snuggled against him - when they share his room in the hostel; when he opens up to her about his sister’s death and his feelings for her when he thinks she’s sleeping; and how protective she feels of him - at the end after she talks with her mom and goes to find him at his house. He immediately goes to find her, too.
Why not 5 stars: - I really didn’t love the OM stuff. I didn’t like how in the beginning she was equating sexually experiences w finding herself. Yes, that can be part of it, but it felt forced and juvenile. And then she attempts to have unprotected sex in the bathroom. Just no thanks. - and again, I felt like the writing was almost poetic, but not in a good way. Just say what you mean, rather than being cute or talking around things.
~I received this as an e-ARC from the author in exchange for a review~
I can see why a lot of people would like this book, but personally, it’s not for me. I felt like the characters lacked chemistry and the plot was pretty much in the background in comparison to the spice. I also felt the main character was a bit young in comparison to what she was meant to be.
Overall I can see the appeal, it’s a short, fun, diverse romance novel. But I just don’t think it personally fit into the box of what I enjoy.
Komal Chahal always strives to be the perfect daughter to her mom, a Pollywood star who adopts and raises her all by herself. In doing that, she has also been hiding her true self and doesn’t have any direction or goals in her life apart from pleasing or meeting her mother’s expectations. Komal’s mom, bless her heart, thought making her follow her footsteps as a Pollywood star after her, would be the right move. Komal, didn’t want to disappoint her mom, accepted the role, but asked for a few weeks of freedom in London before she became famous. The last thing she expected was a stoic and handsome bodyguard to tail her on her trip…
⁀➷“Am I not to your liking?” ⁀➷“Liking? This assignment is a long torture session. Being around you is driving me insane—I can’t think—about anything but you.”
As soon as I saw this book cover, which clearly shows 2 Asian leads, plus a lovely review from my fellow bookish friend, I knew I had to read this. And this one did not disappoint! I have never felt so relatable to a character as I did with Komal. As an Asian woman myself, though not adopted, I know how much pressure she went through to meet her mother’s expectations. She basically been walking on eggshells her whole life, worried about embarrassing her mom and being compared to her. She’s so bratty and not afraid to push all of Huan’s buttons until he snaps, her banter with Huan is definitely the highlight of this book.
⁀➷ “I’ve got a thing for men who are stoic on the outside but have all these horny desires on the inside.” - Me too Komal, me too🤭
Huan Li! My gosh, Asian heroes have always been my weakness, and I often look for them in romance books. Huan Li is probably my favorite Asian MMC so far! He’s quiet and reserved, but eventually, we learn how observant he is, and how he has been watching our Komal for the longest time. And we know, it’s always the quiet one who will turn to freak in bed, and this man got some dirty, dirty mouth. I mean look at what this beautiful man says to her, SWOON!
⁀➷“Komal, you don’t understand how much you own me.” ⁀➷“Komal, I’m so tired of putting on a front as if I wouldn’t give everything to you.” ⁀➷“Perfect. If you ever think any different, don’t. You are perfect.”
I’m not a fan of single POV books, but surprisingly I don’t mind this book being 95% in Komal’s POV. I think it’s because Komal is so likable, so her POV is so entertaining, I also found her insecurity to be endearing instead of annoying. We do have a few snippets of Huan’s POV, with 2 chapters of cute 1 liner of his thought and a few chapters of his POV.
⁀➷ “If you touch me, I will fuck you all day. It won’t end until you feel my cock inside you, even when it’s not inside you. Do you understand what I’m saying?” ⁀➷ “Is that a problem? - Me don’t think so🥵
Overall, I enjoy this book so much for the most part. The only drawback is some parts felt a bit draggy. I feel like their push and pull were dragged a bit too long, and the OM drama was one too many. I don’t mind the OM drama in this case, as they were not in any sort of relationship, and their interaction has been completely professional so far. But the second time Komal tried to get with another man wasn’t my favorite part to read, to say the least. But everything else is perfect after that, and I love how the story wrapped up. I would definitely be checking out this author’s other work, and would highly recommend this book!
⚠️𝗖𝗪/𝗧𝗪/𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀⚠️ - OM drama (heroine did have “failed” sex with other man, but they were not together at the time) - Bleeding during sex - Adoption (MC express their anxiety over being chosen) - Death of sibling from cancer
4⭐️ This was a fun, *spicy* romantic comedy! I thought the cast of characters were diverse and original. The FMC, Komal was relatable and mostly likeable lol and the MMC, Huan was your typical protective (a little controlling), attractive male bodyguard. They end up falling for one another while adventuring in London for Komal’s last “hurrah” before becoming a lead role in a movie. I enjoyed the whirlwind romance, but didn’t totally buy into the instant chemistry 🤷🏼♀️ Overall, I thought this was a really enjoyable book that was different and more diverse than your typical romcom. The author also touches on some difficult topics in a graceful way. And NO third act breakup 👏🏼 If you don’t mind some spice, I definitely recommend!
Thank you to the author, Sookh Kaur, for providing me with a gifted copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
Really fun book, there are definitely some deeper themes but they are explored nicely while still being a funny and light read. I really like the author’s writing style and will be reading more of her books!

Genre: Romantic comedy Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Bodyguard Proposal follows our MFC, Komal Chahal, to London for one last anonymous hurrah before she is thrust into the limelight of Pollywood, where she will be following in the footsteps of her mother, a famous actress.
Before she’s barely set foot in London, she discovers that her mother has sent a bodyguard to look after her. Enter Huan Li.
The Bodyguard Proposal is full of lovely, witty banter, truthful depictions of how anxiety can affect people in many different ways, and some heavy storylines focusing on different ways people try to live up to other people’s standards and expectations each day.
I couldn’t wait to read this after work everyday, and even made it a point to read it on my lunch breaks. It’s a quick, easy read that will make you kick your feet like a five year old girl, yet make you want to punch a wall with all the angst of forbidden love.
These two!!! What great banter and evolution of a relationship and chapter 23 was an expected shift from witty to steamy. I enjoyed the writing so much that I could look passed this is a help baby romance. I need books with her friends.
CN: stalking, invasion of privacy, assault, panic attacks, injury from sex
TW - familial pressures to confirm, adoption (incl anxiety around it), death of a sibling (breast cancer, recounted, mastectomy, chemotherapy, met in her liver, infection in her arm.”), casual misogyny, anxiety / over thinking, infertility (sc, mentioned), absent parent
CW - spanking
Tropes - forbidden, bodyguard, one bed, rich FMC
Komal (FMC) is a nepo baby who, on the surface, seems to not be able to make any concrete decisions about her life, however, the more you learn about her, the more it starts to make sense why she is the way she is and why she feels like she can't always voice what she wants. I enjoyed reading her character development and her finally getting to a place where she feels like she can be real with her mum about what she wants for her future.
The book takes a turn when Komal's famous Pollywood actress mother announces at Komal's birthday party that she has landed them both a role to star as mother and daughter in an upcoming movie. Komal, feeling trapped, goes to London for her last weeks of freedom before she has to start acting. Her mother sends the head of her security, Huan Li (MMC) to keep her safe.
The forced proximity does these two wonders and we see them start to suppress less what they really feel for each other. Their bubble pops when news breaks about a secret Komal and her mother have been keeping from everyone.
The smut in this is good but for me, it didn't really match up with how I read the characters? Like the smut is hot but every scene made me feel like I was reading about a different pair of people?? Idk
This story was light hearted and for me, predictable but all in all, an enjoyable read
Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪
🫑 - no smut 🌶 - no point 🌶🌶 - mediocre at best 🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot 🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek/ The Naughty List

“I want you despite all my efforts to not want you.”
Komal, tired of being the perfect starkid sets out on a trip of self-discovery for her last few weeks of freedom until she too joins the world of Punjabi cinema. On this trip she discovers a lot more than just herself....
One person. Huan Li ❤️ That man I tell you was freaking top tier book boyfriend material. Where tf do I sign up for one? Ms.Sookh Kaur can you tell me?
Huan set standards, standards so high it's insane. This was gonna be a 4.5 star rating but my newest book boyfriend, Huan is 5 stars baby!
Komal and Huan brought the tension, the sizzle, banter and spice and let me tell you the slowburn certainly paid off phenomenally. I'm not much of a spice reader unless it's added in perfectly and mild to medium-ish on the scale and this one was written properly and so well 🤌🏻 You know when a book and its characters have you so into it, the spice just seems natural and apt. Yeah this was one of those books for me. I loved that! The way I rooted for these two!
The tropes were some of my fav! I love a good bodyguard romance fr fr. It's one of my few favorite forbidden tropes.
I also loved the diversity, having both MMCs be POC was lovely and as an indian I loved seeing the fmc and author being Indian desi. #representation yall.
I would say fmc did kinda be a bit "sad rich girl problems" and whiny at times but simultaneously I can sympathize with her dilemmas and she wasn't too bad.
Huan, however is, my man... he can get it and it's all for that personality ya'll. Like looks aside, he shined ✨️ #newbookboyfriendunlocked
Author Sookh Kaur ate and I devoured this book up. Looking forward to reading more of your books! Great work!
Komal has been offered a role in a Pollywood movie, but before that, she decides to take a trip to London to have some wild experiences while she still has her anonymity. Her bodyguard Huan, joins her for protection on this trip and unbeknownst to him, Komal has had her eye on him for a while. Now it’s just the two of them in a new city, and it seems that Huan is watching her too, but he might be seeing a bit more than just a bodyguard would.
This was a super cute read with an incredible amount of tension. There were many of the tropes I loved, including forced proximity and of course the bodyguard trope.
I did like the fact that this book touched on some difficult topics, but in a way that really allows the reader to understand the characters.
I really felt what Komal was going through in terms of finding herself. As someone who is of a similar age to her and just getting started in my career, I feel like it makes so much sense to see what she was going through. Not to mention the amount of cultural and family pressure she was under.
As a Londoner myself, I loved the city explored through their eyes.
There were so many cute quotes in this book but here are a couple of my favourites.
“Stop watching me.” “I can’t” Not won’t, but can’t.
“Use me, Komal. Use me to stand between you and anything else in the world you don’t like.”
Oh, how nothing has felt like this. I hate it. It agonizes me. I can’t get enough.
Thank you to Sookh Kaur for sending me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly I wanted to say thank you to the lovely Sookh Kaur for not allowing me early access to this rerelease, but also for being so kind and patient with me whilst life has been nothing short of hectic!
I really enjoyed this fun little romcom! Me being me I did read it in one sitting, but I don’t imagine I’d be the only one. There was a good amount of banter between Komal and her two best friends and also between herself and the hunky MMC Huan-Li. Oh! And before I forget the falls first 👀 I don’t know I think it’s the sad, single, hopeless romantic in me that adores he falls first because the notion of someone falling first for me is perfectly laughable. Therefore, I eat it up in my romance books, so if anyone has any recommendations please comment them down below ✨ Spice was also good! You know me, I love a good dash of spice in my books 🌶️🥵.
‘The Bodyguard Proposal’, previously published as ‘Komal Needs London’ is available now on Kindle Unlimited ❤️✨
So I was over the moon when Sookh offered me an arc after reading cakes for the grump which I absolutely ADORED and this one did not disappoint!🫶🏼
I was literally laughing from the first paragraph, the fmc’s wicked dirty sense of humour had me laughing out loud and I found Komal soooo relatable which is something I always love when reading a book❤️ I also loved the anxiety rep in this book and thought it was written really well!
The tension between Komal and the main mmc Huan was sizzling and I love the sarcastic banter bouncing back and forth between them! the spice was sooo good🥵 who doesn’t love a good bodyguard romance trope🙄💁🏼♀️
This was a quick, fun and easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and couldn’t put down, it totally left me wanting more!
This story follows Komal, a nepo baby with a Pollywood super star as a mother and her bodyguard Huan. She takes a trip to London to live as a normal woman without the judging eyes of those already familiar with her status, but soon finds she isn’t unknown by all as she expected when Huan makes an appearance. She finds herself watching him instead of the sights London has to offer as she attempts to break through his hard exterior.
The chemistry, banter and tension in this book is ridiculously good and who doesn’t love a protective MMC. I love the diversity offered in each Sookh Kaur story and that I get to learn more about cultures through her writing.
✨ Forced proximity ✨ Bodyguard romance ✨ Forbidden romance ✨ He falls first
The Bodyguard Proposal was a fun, steamy, and funny romantic comedy. Komal is the adopted daughter of a famous Pollywood actress. On her 26th birthday, her mother informs here that she'll be staring in her first ever movie with her mother. Komal decides to take an anonymous trip to London before she gives up her privacy for stardom. The only problem is - her mother assigns Huan the bodyguard to attend her in London - a man that she's noticed and has a crush on.
I love how sarcastic and whip sharp Komal and Huan are, their chemistry is electric and Komal is spirited and full of life, throwing aside her anxiety to try and make friends on her trip. I felt like Sookh Kaur did a wonderful job of representing anxiety and how it is to have just a steady stream of thoughts while one is always trying to "perform" and act as they should. Komal's spirit and sense of humor slowly pull Huan out of his shell and reveals his own endearing sense of humor. Komal slowly discovers herself in London and realizes things that she'd like to change in her life, and what path she really wants to take in life. A scandal back home in India drives Komal and Huan back home for Komal to finally face her fears and speak/stand up for herself.
Komal and Huans relationship was very sweet and endearing, and I loved how it played out. I also loved the adoption representation, and how Kaur handled some of the emotions that get wrapped up for adopters and adoptees.
This was such a funny and cute read - highly recommend!
Thank you to Sookh Kaur for the ARC of The Body Guard Proposal!
The Bodyguard Proposal is the latest book by Sookh Kaur that I've read and I really appreciated being an ARC reader so I get to read it sooner than it's released! Similar to Sookh Kaur's previous books, I love the representation of asian cultures, in this book, we have one of the protagonist's Komal who is a daughter of a Punjabi movie industry actress Shreya and on the other side we have Huan, who is the Head of Security for the two (i.e. the Bodyguard).
It's a spicy book with just the right amount of tension. Through the course of the story, we see Komal and Huan in their bubble during a 3 week break in London which is the only time Komal feels she has to truly "find herself" before she's sucked into a fast-paced career trajectory that she's thrusted into and that she will not be able to control. Their banter and intimacy is different and exciting.
I was also really glad the there's a well paced ending. I don't like stories that just have a frantic ending that leaves you a little bit breathless because too much happened too quickly without giving you enough material to know all the loose ends worked out.
*I received this as an ARC from the author* This was the exact book I needed after reading non-romance. It was cheesy, cute, romcom perfection. I loved the diversity of the characters and the relationships between them. I’m a sucker for a pining, broody and protective MMC. What I will say is that I wish that Komal’s relationship with her friends was explored a little more and that the time frame of Komal and Huan falling in love was a little longer.
Either way, this book was fantastic and I can’t wait to see what other books Sookh comes up with!
I loved Cakes for the Grump so I was excited and a bit nervous when this book came in the mail. It did not disappoint. Kaur is a gifted writer and the romance, comedy, drama, and real humanity in this novel were so well executed. I loved the Pollywood plot line, the grand adventure, the slow burn, and the emotional depth to her characters. I think we all need a Huan in our corner. Please never stop writing Sookh!
The Body Guard Proposal ARC review ☕️ ⭐️ Rating - 3.75⭐️
📖 A huge thank you to the author for a copy of the ARC.
My thoughts 💭- I love getting to see Kaur’s writing improve and let me tell you this book is wayyyyy steamier than her last 🥵
This was my first bodyguard romance and absolutely I loved it! During Komal’s birthday party her actress mother gifts her a role in an upcoming movie. Unsure how to feel about this she takes a final trip to London before having to start the movie. Unknown to her, she is being accompanied by her bodyguard and long time crush; Huan.
Over the course of two weeks we see tension and lust begging to let their feelings be known to each other. However both know it’s not wise to act on their feelings as the two can never be together and are from totally separate worlds.
Huan is silent and strong but deep down he’s a little cutie and has such a soft spot for Komal. Meanwhile Komal is the exact opposite, she’s chaotic, chatty and full of uncertainty for what she wants for herself.
I absolutely loved their dynamic and I got so teary eyed throughout the whole thing as they each confess their deepest stories and feelings. The only thing I wish Kaur had done more of was world building as this is a very character focused book and sometimes the setting feels more like a background thought.
Thank you to the author for considering me for an ARC! Below is my honest review.
Overall Rating: 3.5 / 5 Spice Rating: 3 / 5
Would recommend if your fans of the following: - Close Proximity - He Falls First - No Third Act Breakup - Bratty and Sarcastic FMC - Jealous, Protective, and Observant MMC
CW/TW: Weight of Family Expectations, Anxiety (relating to living in the public eye), Misogyny, Death of a Sibling, Adoption, Mention of Blood, Mention of Cancer and related treatments, Mention of infertility
Summary: In this romance we follow Komal, the daughter of a famous Pollywood actress, who has spent her whole life trying to be everything that her mother needs her to be. While she isn't quite sure the next steps she wants to take in life, she finds that the choice is taken from her when her mother announces that Komal will join her in an acting role in an upcoming film. Overwhelmed by the news, Komal realizes she's spent her whole life pleasing others and wants to do finally let her hair down. She decides she's going to spend time alone in a city where no one should know her, and that city is London. There she stumbles through travelling abroad but soon finds herself in close proximity to the hot bodyguard, Huan Li, who she thought she left back home. As much as the two try to keep their relationship professional, their chemistry proves to be too much.
Overall Review: I found this romance to be a pretty fun read, really picking up after the 30% mark. In the beginning of the book I found it a bit difficult to be invested in the characters and I found the flow of writing to be a bit choppy during the setup for the premise. However, as soon as things were settled in London and we started to get interactions between Komal and Huan I began to see their chemistry. Their banter was very well written and they came to life off of the page. It was also nice seeing moments where their connection went beyond just physical, such as opening up about their anxieties and them supporting each other through those. I think it would have been helpful for me as a reader to have some of those moments brought into the beginning of the work to help me better understand the main character's motivations. That being said, I found that the author handled the heavier topics in this book with care and I also appreciate that the ending focused more on the growth between Komal and Huan rather than a third act breakup.
We’ve all been there where we have to be the perfect person. Not to speak our mind when there are eyes staring at you, expecting you to step out of line.
Komal Chahal is the perfect daughter. She never steps out of line and is always a picture of perfection. She can’t step out of line for her Pollywood superstar mother whose fame knows no bounds. Realising she’s been given a deadline to stay normal, until she stars in her very first punjabi movie, Komal decides to have a one last hurrah in London. Her plans get dented when she finds her super hot bodyguard Huan Li at her hostel, sent there by her mother to protect Komal from all things dangerous. A story about self discovery and self confidence, this book was a really good read. Sookh Kaur has most definitely hit the nail on the head when it comes to expectations of Indian families from their children.
Things I ❤️ about the book: 🎞 Even though on the surface, this book is a love story between two people, when you read more, it tells you the inner workings of an Indian daughter and her inner torments of trying to be true to self and trying to be the perfect daughter to the world. Being an Indian daughter myself, it is quite relatable to always try and be the perfect version of yourself in front of the world and not let anything or anyone crack you.
🎞 Some of the lines that were said in the book were beautifully written and I highlighted quite a few of them. My favourite being
“Even with people who love you, choosing yourself can mean paying a price for it.”
🎞 The spice factor is quite high (🌶🌶🌶) and it was so refreshing to read about how Komal is vocal about what she truly desires.
🎞 Loved the whole “I’ve only got 5 weeks before my actual life begins and I have to hide away my true self to the world”.
Things I 🥵 about the book:
🎞 For most part of the book, I was confused as to what part of the world does Komal actually live in.
🎞 Even though there’s a whole layer of Huan that the author has tried to talk about, but to me, it felt a little unexplored to the extent I was expecting.
All in all, its a fun read for someone who enjoys reading a romance novel sprinkled with a little spice.
Thanks to the author for sending across an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow, where to start! The Bodyguard Proposal begins in luxury as it introduces us to Komal Chahal, the daughter of a Punjabi “Pollywood” film star. Komal appears to have it all, living with her wealthy and famous mother, appearing to be the perfect polite and respectable daughter. Underneath her beautifully arranged persona, Komal is anxious and feels restricted by her life.
Deciding to experience some freedom and real life adventures, Komal embarks on a trip to London.. but her mother sends her Head of Security along to keep Komal out of danger. Huan Li is beyond hot and Komal has secretly admired him from afar for a long time but now she has his stern eyes watching her every move and hampering her plans for an independent and perhaps even hedonistic holiday.
The tension between Komal and Huan is almost tangible and a sizzling slow burn. Komal initially appears to be slightly immature, having led a relatively sheltered life, however she is not as demure as she appears and has an impulsive and slightly wild side. Huan, on the other hand, seems stoic, dependable and far too serious for Komal’s liking, so she decides to tease and taunt a reaction from him. The narrative is mostly from Komal’s point of view and the reader gets to know her well. Some of the narrative is from Huan’s point of view and whilst we don’t hear much from him, what is shared impacts the reader (chapter 5 felt like a punch to the guts). I felt invested in both main characters, wanting their romance to work.
The storyline was nicely planned and extremely funny at times but also had times where the characters’ pain could be felt. The sex scenes are “open door” (for the reader!) and relatively explicit. Overall, for me, The Bodyguard Proposal was a fun and easy to read romance which I thoroughly enjoyed. I would happily read more stories by Sookh Kaur.
Disclaimer: I received an advance copy of this book for free and this is my honest review.

The Bodyguard Proposal is an edited, re-released version of Komal Needs London.
Komal is the daughter of a famous Pollywood star. To help Komal, her mother gets them cast in a film together. Before her life changes drastically, she convinces her mother to let her go to London. Due to her status, her mother sends a bodyguard to protect Komal during the trip.
The Bodyguard Proposal was such a fun read! I enjoyed the character development and diversity. The characters are exciting and original. It is very rare to read a book with a Punjabi FMC and Asian MMC. I loved Komal! She is chaotic, fun, and a little bratty. Huan is perfect! Although the nature of his job requires him to be protective and controlling, I loved how he let his guard down for Komal. Their whirlwind romance had ups and downs, but their chemistry and connection were solid. This is a story about the relationship between Komal and Huan and Komal's journey of self-discovery. Before London, her life was filled with decisions that pleased her mother and ensured her family looked good in the public's view. Her trip to London pushed her to make decisions about her life for herself. This was a refreshing and spicy forbidden romance read. I highly recommend this book!
Thank you, Sookh Kaur, for providing me with an e-ARC of this book. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
The Bodyguard Proposal follows Komal Chahal, the daughter of a famous Pollywood actress looking to experience freedom before her life is devoted to acting alongside her mother. Taking an impromptu trip to London to do wild and crazy things, she is shocked when her mother’s bodyguard, Huan Li, shows up on assignment to keep her safe.
With laughable dialogue, pent-up interest, and sexy-as-sin interactions, this book really is best described as a steamy romantic comedy. (See what I did there? That’s the subtitle).
I’ll be honest: I wasn’t sold initially, but after about 20-25% of the way through, I was hooked. Since fame isn’t common in most people’s lives, it can be hard to say what could be perceived as abnormal. To me, some of what brings Komal and Huan together in London seems a bit unrealistic. But once tensions released and walls began descending, it really was enjoyable.
Kaur has written some excellent inner dialogue for her characters, as well as witty banter to keep the feel of the story light. I found myself laughing, smiling, and oooing throughout the story, along with sympathizing and pouting because of her solid lines and scenes. Despite not being familiar with some of the cultural or geographical references, it really captured me.
I loved Komal’s drive to find herself and break out of her comfort zone to do what makes her happy. I also loved watching Huan’s constant battle to keep his composure when it was clear from the start he didn’t want to. Their attraction to one another is palpable even before anything truly happens between them.
Huan’s overprotective and possessive demeanor and Komal’s sarcastic and “to hell with it” attitude mixed perfectly for this spicy pairing. Just like them, I never wanted their time in London to end.
My overall opinion of this story is positive. Still, it took me a bit to get into it, so I am rating The Bodyguard Proposal 3.5 out of 5 stars and a 4 for spice. If you want to diversify your reads and support an indie author (because you should), I recommend reading this story.
Y'all, if you're looking for a spicy bodyguard romance that has lots of diversity, you need to add THE BODYGUARD PROPOSAL by Sookh Kaur to your TBR.
Looking to throw caution to the wind just one time before her mother's expectations take over, Komal wasn't expecting her mother's bodyguard, Huan, to tag along on her spontaneous trip to London. But once she's left India, Komal can't help but notice Huan in new ways, and it doesn't take long before Komal wishes Huan was doing a lot more than just guarding her body...
The Bodyguard Proposal was a spicy bodyguard romance that gave way more *spice emoji* than I was expecting while also really diving into both parental and societal expectations within the Punjabi community. I loved Komal's journey, even when it was taking her down some unexpected roads. While I am not part of the Punjab community, Kaur made it easy to understand and sympathize with what Komal was going through and the tough decisions she had to make.
It was easy to fall in love with these characters and their story. Komal was a bright spirit who fought to find her own happiness while not letting her mother down. Huan was the big, protective bodyguard who struggled to find a balance between following the rules or following his heart. Both were fun, heartfelt characters who were hard to put down.
Kaur crafted a sizzling bodyguard romance that kept me rooting for Komal and Huan despite the odds. I truly enjoyed these two main characters, and I loved the adventure that Kaur took them on.
