I swear, my life was always totally normal.

Normal house, normal family, normal school. My looks are average, I don't have any superpowers, no one's showing up to tell me I'm a princess - you get the picture. But when my junior year started, something not normal happened. There were new kids at school . . . new kids with a wardrobe straight out of a 19th-century romance novel, and an inexplicable desire to stay at school until sundown.

And on top of that, James Hallowell showed up. James, who stole my sandwiches in fourth grade and teased me mercilessly through middle school. James, who now seems to have the power to make my heart race any time he comes near.

But something weird is going on. Because James rarely goes out during the day. And he seems stronger than your typical guy. And he knows the new kids, all of whom seem to be harboring some kind of deep secret. . . .

The strange staring contests. The lack of parents. And the missing blood. Oh God, the missing blood. How could I be so stupid? They’re vampires, or at least under a number of severe delusions.

Jesus, Sophie, the guy’s name is Vlad.
This was a hilarious read. It's partially a parody on Twilight and other generic vampire books, so expect quite a few insider vampires jokes. If you're expecting a DEEP DARK SCARY YA VAMPIRE NOVEL, stop here. This book is 75% lulz, it doesn't take itself seriously at all. There are stupid, dangerous, and silly vampires who are completely out of touch with modern high school life and refers to Twilight as a manual.
Marisabel just shrugs, rolling on her back to stare up at an open copy of Twilight.

“This is not right at all,” she says. “Edward is dreamy, though. Maybe you could get some tips.”
It is light on romance, and the main character is realistic, funny, and likeable. She's a snarky journalist wannabe with as much curiosity as there is blood in her veins. The side characters (the humans, at least) are kind of shallow, but considering this book is a parody, it's fine. This isn't War and Peace, I just want a book that would make me laugh, without any elements like slut shaming and abuse/stalking that would piss me off. This book did the trick.

The Summary:
I can imagine the expressions that flicker across my face; there’s the “Crap, she is a vampire,” followed by “Crap, I am not supposed to know she is a vampire,” followed by “Crap, I think she just realized that I still know she is a vampire.”
Sophie wants to be a journalist. This is the year she will become editor-in-chief of her high school newspaper. Only her journalism teacher think she takes her assignments a leeeetle too far.
“Like I said, I love everything you’re doing, but our school paper is generally supposed to be less investigative and more...”
“Fluff?”
“Celebratory. It’s not that your article on the health code violations committed by lunch ladies in the cafeteria wasn’t stellar—it was—but I think we are ruffling too many feathers. I also think they spit in my soup when I’m not looking.”
She's assigned the boring-as-fuck job of interviewing the surprising number of new students that have shown up at her school over the summer. Four of them. They stare at people at length. They're really strange. They live together. They have really weird names, like Vlad and Marisabel. They're not too willing to give her any information about themselves, and Vlad is oddly fascinated with Sophie's stepsister, Caroline. Of course, he doesn't give Sophie the time of day, which SUCKS, because she's supposed to interview him. Sophie's got competition for the editor-in-chief position. She NEEDS to get this article together.

The more Sophie finds out about the new students, the stranger they seem. It helps that Caroline won't stop talking about him.
Vlad is hot. Vlad is cool. Vlad has a silver Hummer with tinted windows and he offered to drive Caroline around in it. Vlad is rich. Vlad’s parents are away on business in Europe, so he has the house to himself. And yes, he’s delighted that they let his friends come stay with him this semester so he wouldn’t be lonely.
Hm. HMMMMMMMMMM.

The new students don't act right. They're overheard saying really strange things.
“They already like me, Neville,” Vlad says. “Did you see how many of them congratulated me afterward? Look, this is called a ‘fist bump.’ It is more accepted now than a handshake.”
They walk with unnatural grace.
Vlad is making his way across the cafeteria. He moves silently and with an easy grace, an achievement when you take into account the cheap tile that makes everyone in sneakers sound like farting mice.
And then there's the weird mystert of the missing blood from a blood drive.

Hm. HMMMMMMMMMM.

To further complicate things, Sophie's childhood best friend, James has returned. He's living next door. Alone. James seems to know a little bit too much about the new students, and since they were friends, Sophie confides in him.
“Not only won’t they talk to me, they scare the crap out of me. They’re not normal students. I overheard a very strange conversation yesterday. And Vlad’s dating my sister. And possibly dating his sister, too.”
Sophie's investigational skills will finally get the better of her, and she'll come to discover a shocking, horrifying secret.

They're vampires.

WHO'D HAVE THUNK IT THAT THE STRANGE SCARY NEW PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO ACT NORMAL ARE VAMPIRES. Like, what the FUCK, man?! The freaking vampires aren't at school for no reason, they're here on a mission to find a girl.
“She’s said to be the great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter of some dumb baby of some musty vampire family named Mervaux.”
“Let me guess. A half-vampire baby?” I ask, leaving off the “...who fights crime.”
“No!” Marisabel says. “A plain old human baby. That’s what makes the whole thing so weird. Who cares about a human baby? People have those all the time.” She pauses. “Well, I mean, not vampires. They never have any babies, which is good because child vampires are freaky.”
And she's going to have to decide who to trust. Can she trust James, her old best friend who might have something to hide?
For one crazy, hurtling second I heave a sigh of relief; if forced to choose, he is the better option. But then again, I would also rather drown than be eaten by snakes.
But whatever happens, Sophie is smart, intelligent, she's a fighter.
I attended a weekly karate class with the same fervor as a nun attending Mass. It was three years before my sensei told Marcie that he was afraid I was there for the wrong reasons. I believe the word “bloodthirsty” was used. Right before the phrase “I think you should get her checked out.”
And she's completely prepared for whatever the vampires have to throw at her.
After a moment of deliberation, I grab the wooden spoon and a knife and do my best to file it into a point. Two thousand years of folklore can’t be that wrong, right?
The Vampires:
She is gorgeous in a dark, moody way, with thin black brows and long chestnut hair that breaks into a natural wave at her shoulders. If ever there were a girl meant to sit in a smoky café and tell you about the guinea pig that died tragically when she was four, it’s her.
*Stifles laughter*

Yeah, they're as you'd expect, and they're all sorts of hilarious. From the bumbling Neville, to the cold determination of icy blond Vlad, to gorgeous, mournful Marisabel, to...Violet. Who is absolutely batshit crazy.
“Can I ask you a question?” Violet asks. “Let us say that you liked this boy. You liked him so much that you didn’t care that your family and friends said that it would end badly. You think he admires you as well, so you give him everything that he could ever want. But what does he do? Does he stay with you forever? No! He ignores you and goes off to live who knows where.” Her voice cracks, and she lets go of my arm to flounce back into her seat. “I am at a loss,” she hiccups, holding the handkerchief to her mouth. “Do you think I should give him a lock of my hair? Maybe he is unaware that I still care.”
Honestly, the girls are a lot more fun than the guys. They're hysterical in one moment, calmly cool the next. The guys are just plain awkward. This book plays on all the vampire tropes, and it's absolutely hilarious. I loved seeing the "vampires" interact with one another. I loved leader Vlad's frustration as it seems like his plan and his "friends" aren't going anywhere as planned.
“Can you believe them? Neville does nothing but attach himself to any organization that will have him, and Violet...yesterday Violet asked if I wanted to participate in a ‘quiz’ that will tell me what my ‘best fall look’ is,” he says. “What does that even mean?”
“Mine is eggplant,” Marisabel offers absently. “And scarves.”
Sophie:
“And you’re stronger?”
“Yes.”
“And you have heightened senses.”
“Yes.”
“And you sparkle in the sunlight.”
His lips make the “yuh” shape, but then he does a double take. “What?”
Meet Sophie, whose knowledge of vampires is restricted to Twilight. She's not dumb at all, but she's just silly enough to be endearing. Sophie is intelligent, she's a natural investigator and journalist, but she's not Too-Stupid-To-Live. She runs when there's danger. Sophie fights back when needed.
I’m just about to start my return creep across the yard when a figure darts through the far hallway. For a second my shocked brain scans for a “Stop, drop, and roll” sort of acronym that explains what to do when you’re about to be caught spying. I decide on RLH—Run Like Hell.
What I love about Sophie is her sense of humor. Sophie has a deadpan internal narrative that made me giggle, she constantly makes snarky observations.
“Wonderful,” Vlad says, and then probably follows it with something else ridiculous (“Your hair is like sunlight in space” or “Let’s greet the dawn with kisses”).
She's not altogether rational, she relies on gut instinct sometimes, against reason, but I understand her choices. Altogether, Sophie is an awesome narrator.

The Romance:
In reality our relationship consisted of hair pulling (age six), doll vandalism (age eight), and relentless teasing about my freckles (age eleven). Not exactly Romeo and Juliet, but try telling Marcie that. Luckily he moved away to New York before either one of us had to drink poison or kill a cousin.
The romance in this book was really light, and thoroughly adorable. There is no insta-love. Sophie and James have known each other almost their whole lives, until he moved away...and turned into something else. James isn't your standard Edward Cullen. He does shit like climb through windows in the dark of night, but Sophie proceeds to kick the crap out of him when he does.
Now I channel all of my anger and lingering fear into one mighty upward chop to the nose. When he covers his face, I bend my knees up and use my legs to pop him off of me before rolling sideways and scrambling to my feet, my legs still shaky from the adrenaline.

“I’m sorry, were you expecting a parade?”
*cheers*

They're an equally matched pair. James respects her. She respects him. James is never a creeper, and although he's made difficult choices in the past, I understood why he made his (really stupid) choices, and I really liked them as a couple.
“It was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. You can’t kick me more than I’ve kicked myself.”
“Couldn’t you have just dyed your hair purple and called it a day?” I ask weakly. When I think about the loneliness and grief that drove him to do this, I am suddenly choked up. I slide halfway across the floor to be closer, to let him know that I appreciate his honesty. When I stop, he lifts an eyebrow.
“Really? That’s the best sob story I’ve got. What does a guy have to say to make you move all the way?”
Overall, great book, with likeable characters and a lot of humor. Recommended.

Dear Sophie McGee,

Something tells me we would have gotten along famously in high school.

Love,
Me

Snarky, dry humor, teensy-bit off-kilter ... I loved this book. Sophie McGee is a hysterical narrator, and Robinson's tight writing (and killer sense of humour) had me laughing EVERY OVER SENTENCE. I am anxiously awaiting whatever next Robinson will write. I'm making my supervisor read this book tomorrow --- I honestly can say that I will happily promote this book to both the Twilight and anti-Twilight crowds!

This is a HUGELY underrated book.

Sophie is a budding journalist, and she's looking to be the next editor-in-chief of her school's newspaper. Her newest assignment is interviewing some of the weird new students who've just joined her school. There's Vlad, the creepy Russian guy; Violet, who's not all there; and James, her onetime next-door-neighbour. Sophie quickly realises that there's something majorly off about them, and when she finds out that they're vampires, she determines to stop whatever evil plans they're hatching.

Sophie is bloody hilarious. She's a bit closed-off, career-focussed, not above manipulation (though she feels bad about it) and snarky as hell. James has his dry humour that equips him to deal with her, though he's a bit of a tortured hero and she's not always as nice to him as she could be.

The humour in this book also comes from the fact that it's pretty parodic. There are lots of jabs at Twilight, and I really wish Robinson had written another YA book in the last ten years, because she has a real gift for satire. The ending is left a little open but I'm hoping the author replies to my Twitter questions on Sophie's ultimate fate!

TBR Reduce Challenge #26- 2011 (Arlene)

Wanting nothing more then to be editor in chief for her school newspaper, Sophie will do anything to beat her competition (and kinda friend) and all she has to do is get the skinny on the new students at school for her article, which is harder then it looks since two of them does't seem to want to cooperate. In fact, they seem very...strange. Stranger still is James, Sophie's old neighbor and banter-buddy, just moved back next door and seems to know the new kids. But how?

I tried to read this book a few months ago and it didn't take for some reason. It must have just been my mood cause this time around it was easier to get lost in.

Vampire Crush, simply put, is just a fun easy going book. It has some great dialog and fun animated characters.
Sophie and James were really very sweet and I loved that old friends memories that they shared and loved there quick wit and banter. They had some really cute moments, I especially liked all the mind-reading bits, they were my favorite thing about this book.
The writing was good, but I noticed a couple of points that didn't add up, like James left school when he was in grade 8 which would put him around 13-14 years old, but then later admits he was 16 when he left? But other then that the writing was okay and I got a kick out of the Twilight quips. Very amusing.
I was surprised with the way it ended but if I'm being honest it's exactly the kind of ending I was hoping for.
Overall I liked this one, it was a decent cute book perfect if your not looking for anything serious and just want a quick escape, I would definitely read the sequel if Robinson decided to write it.

Really cute!

Sophie is an average teenager with a little bit of a sarcastic smart ass attitude (which actually endears or to me) that lives with her dad, step mom and step sister Caroline. Life is normal and uneventful until The New Kids show up at the first day back to school. Something is off with them, Sophie knows it. Their weird 19th century clothing, they way they speak and the fact that none of them live with parents but altogether and on their own. And there seems to be some menace under the surface of the boy named Vlad. Only to add to the weirdness James Hallowell, her old neighbor and loved/hated childhood friend shows back up in the house next door and seems to know the new kids. What's going on? What's wrong with the group of new kids?! And why can't Sophie's heart stop beating so fast whenever she's around James.
Sophie needs to figure out the answers to her questions because her life may depend on it.

I dug this book out of my never ending pile of TBR books. I had forgotten that I had ever had this book and I'm so glad that I found it.
I loved Sophie's sarcastic, funny and quirky attitude. She added quite of bit of humor and had me laughing out loud at times. And the relationship between her and James was intense because of the love/hate relationship which only added to the anticipation.
The only complaint I have is this is a standalone book, I think this really would've made a great series because there are lots of questions to be answered still.

Was this a mind blowing read, no but it was very entertaining. Sophie is your average high school student with dreams to become the next editor in chief of her high school newspaper. When she is given a new assignment to interview 4 out of 8 new students at school she uncovers a huge story that nobody is prepared for. That is the basic plot but I have to mention James. Robinson has created a very believable ya romance. James and Sophie have known each other since they were kids and now that James has returned after being gone for years they pick up right where they left off, fighting and insulting one another. Their fights were so funny and I loved that Sophie blundered so much stuff up. I really enjoyed these two together. The story moved rather quickly and even though I was a little shocked by the ending and the direction that the author went I still really liked it.
So, will this book give new meaning to life, absolutley not, but it really is a fun read with quite a few Twilight moments that are very funny. I think if you are looking for a light read try this one. I am hoping for a sequel!

Meh.
I like stories about vampires and all the legends that surround them, but I also prefer those stories being at least decently mapped out. This one was not, hence the meh.
I've read it, but I didn't enjoy it at all and most of the time I was just frustrated with everyone and everything.

Finally another Vampire book I love. One thats so modern it even mentions Rihanna and Twilight. A.M Robinson has introduced a realistic set of vampires to the world. Very relatable very likeable. When I first started the book I had my doubts. I thought it was going to be another Twilight. Oh how wrong I was as a matter of fact this book lets say mentions Twilight in a humorous way which will have you giggling.

The quality of writing is fantastic the pace, the orginality, fullness of the development and the fluidity. All these make a good novel and this novel has them all. You can definanlty see all these characters in a school that you go to. Even though they are vampires they are all still going through the same things teenagers go through and thats what makes me relate to it a lot. From the Love/hate relationship with Sophie and James to the Growing apart relationship between Vlad and Marisabel these sort of aspects in this book make it what it is a fantastic romance novel. Its light hearted its not so serious which is refreshing from the other Vampire books I have read.

There is a lot of humour in this book. My favourite line is “ "His eyes are warm as he leans forward this is either a kiss or a really slow head-butt” these humours one liners just make the book not so doom and gloom. The plot is definanlty something that I loved most about this book. Always surprises always making my heart flutter a little bit so thank you A.M Robinson. You’ve created a world I feel a part of and never want to leave. Congratulations on the Amazing Novel and I hope and pray there will be a follow up! Go buy this book! You will NOT be disapointed.

This was a great read. I love how easy, fun, and cute it was.

Sophie is one very entertaining narrator - she's witty, driven, curious as hell and investigative. Sophie is also competitive to a fault, and we see all these characteristics of her in the book. Funny enough, some of these characteristics drive and shape the plot. For instance, her curiosity and investigative streak leads her into discovering far more about the newcomers in her school than her getting-to-know-you article required. She diverts from a typical heroine by actually having a reason to follow the newcomers, although eventually she steps far beyond the boundary. It was quite a refreshing break, away from other 'I-have-come-for-you' vampire stories. She is actually just a bystander dragged into the whole mess by her competitiveness and curiosity and her connection to James.

Speaking of James - I adore the relationship between him and Sophie. Their affection is shown in a very non-convetional way, and as childhood friends, their history is rich, vibrant and more than full of laughs. Their antics are both funny and romantic at the same time, truly reminiscient of a best-friend-turned-boyfriend romance. Between them is a sea of endless insults and pranks, but their affection and attraction to each other is shown through each of these - and is very clear from day one! Their history puts weight on their affection, and boy does it end up being terribly romantic!

Such a charming book - I'm sure readers will love Sophie's comedic narration and step into her shoes some time. Not to mention James, the vampires and the happy-ish ending!

100% worth reading because it so blatantly makes fun of the teen vampire fad ("Edward is dreamy" uttered by an actual teen vamp reading Twilight? You know you wanna). And just for this line alone:

"... I thought I would be even safer in a human high school. No one expects to find vampires in high school,” he says, attempting an apologetic smile.

I should probably study for my finals, but why should I when I could read this and maybe rewatch High School Musical?!?!

My Thoughts: When I started this one, I honestly didn't know what I was in for! I figured it would just be another vampire novel that was like the rest. Lately, it seems like they have all just went together. Vampire Crush was unique and enjoyable. It was a little of bit mystery, romance, and humor. We are introduced to Sophie who is in high school. She is on the school newspaper and just kind of keeps to herself. People know her but they don't really "know" her. We've all felt like that at a time I think. All of a sudden a new group of kids show up to her school. How weird is it that there are so many new students at once? Sophie has to interview a few of them for the paper and she has trouble tracking them down. They seem more and more mysterious to her. Than snap, her old neighbor James is also back in town. Coincidence? I think not!

As the romance heats up between James and Sophie, Sophie finds out the new vampires are looking for someone. Her spy sense kicks in and she wants to know more! I can't say too much else or I will give away all the spoilers of this one. It was a light read and easy to figure out.

Overall: I really enjoyed Vampire Crush. I especially liked James and the conversations that went on between him and Sophie. I didn't quite like all the vampires as much as I would have liked. Vlad especially annoyed me and I think half of that was to do with his name. Come on, typical vampire name, how did Sophie not know that one from day one? HAHA! Vampire Crush was a really light read. Lots of references to high school musical and even Twilight. I liked it but I wanted to see more depth and get to know the characters a bit more.

Cover: The cover is really red, huh? Its striking enough to get a few second glances. I also like how we can see the bats shadow!

What I'd Give It:
4/5 Cupcakes

I know what you're thinking- seriously, do we need another Twilight wanna-be? The same thought popped into my head when this one showed up in my mailbox. I reluctantly decided to give it a try and was immediately rewarded with a quirky and witty supernatural tale.

Vampire Crush offers up a host of odd yet lovable characters. Sophie, our heroine, is spunky and sarcastic. Just reading her thoughts had me smiling. Her best-friend and love interest, James, isn't your typical Edward Cullen. His conversations with Sophie are deep and meaningful, and I looked forward to all of the scenes he played a role in. The other vampires have separate, defined personalities, and I had a blast getting to know them.

The plot is new and original, and it didn't go where I expected it to. I am pleased to say that the story is about as far from the overdone vampire tale as it can get. Sophie's bravery (and sometimes, to be honest, stupidity) gets her stuck in a heap of trouble. It was both hilarious and thrilling to accompany her on her adventures.

Overall, Vampire Crush is a wonderfully fresh supernatural novel. I'd recommend it to anyone that enjoys paranormal romance or laugh-out-loud writing. Trust me, Robinson's jokes about Twilight and references to High School Musical will bring a smile to your face.

THIS BOOK TITLE IS VERY MISLEADING BECAUSE ABPUT 10% OF THIS BOOK IS ACTUALLY ABOUT A VAMPIRE CRUSH. This is more of a mystery drama? and it’s.. I mean… not good?? not bad?? it’s so mid that it hurts. it’s much more of a comedy if anything.
I would now like to present some of my favourite quotes from this book.

“How many brothers and sisters do you have? What are their ages?”
“Seven. Deceased.”

“If you were a car what car would you be and why?”
“I am not a car, nor do I wish to be one.”

“Marisabel just shrugs, rolling on her back to stare at an open copy of Twilight.”
I love this. she’s using twilight as a guide on how to act more vampire. That’s epic.

“I thought you would like roses.”
“I’m allergic”
“Your eyes are not red.”
“I’m sneezing on the inside.”

This is a very cute, light paranormal read that I enjoyed. Though the vampires in the book were very unoriginal and the book was very predictable, I still enjoyed reading the novel. Vampire Crush is a nice book to read if you aren't looking for anything too deep or love vampire novels.

Sophie is a paper cutter heroine that you will find in most YA novels nowadays. She doesn't care much for her looks, people think that she is average, she dresses frumpy, and is a loner. Of course, this is the point when the gorgeous hero, James, comes into the story and sweeps her off her feet, though she refuses to admit that she is falling for him. The rest of the story involves her "fight" with the villain, Vlad, and her search for why Vlad and his posee came to her school.

While I did find Sophie mildly annoying, James made up for her faults. While his character is very generic in that I have seen him in many books before, I can't help but fall for the gorgeous hero. I can see why Sophie falls for him, though I still can't quite understand why she tries to allude him. He is so obviously in love with Sophie and a great guy for putting up with her. I wish the real world was like YA romance books in that there are tons of gorgeous, amazing, cute, and sweet guys out there waiting to sweep all of us girls off of our feet.

I liked a majority of the supporting characters, especially Violet. She lives in the 21st century yet she still acts like she is from many generations ago. She is too funny in the way she talks and how she interacts with boys. I laughed at her addiction to gossip magazines. The other supporting characters weren't as fleshed out, though there wasn't much that needed to be said about them. The villain in Vampire Crush is especially cheesy and very annoying. A bug that I really wanted to squash throughout the entire book because he was just so creepy and disgusting.

While there were a few flaws with the book, I still enjoyed reading it. A good book to read when you've picked through most of the YA section like me. It isn't horrible, it just wasn't the best book that I have ever read. If you are into vampires, you would probably enjoy this.

such a good heroine. *sniff* she made me cry tears of happiness!
Sophie's POV was a joy to read. She made me snicker so much I think I have permanent laugh lines etched on my mouth, finally!

I think every vampire YA trope has been used in this novel WITHOUT INSULTING THE ORIGINAL BOOK. Which is great. I respect authors who respect other authors.

Marisabel just shrugs, rolling on her back to stare up at an open copy of Twilight.

“This is not right at all,” she says. “Edward is dreamy, though. Maybe you could get some tips.”

The romance quotient is quite low. Just low enough that it doesn't degrade the other highlights of this book (plot and parody). Just high enough that romance mongers like me get a little side treat. Plus its not the kind of love at first sight with the chiselled jaw kind of romance. Its very real. In a very high school kind of way.

I really liked the character of Caroline and how she was treated in the novel. Usually Caroline would be main slut-shamee in a book like this. (and Sophie the slut-shamer, of course) And I was so glad to find out that the same thing did't apply here.

All the characters are, in a way, silly and innocent. Which makes them endearing. Vlad is evil + twisted + silly. Caroline is determined +love struck + silly. Violet is crazy + sweet + silly. Sophie is intelligent + snarky + silly. Marisabel is dark + brooding + silly. You get the picture? It was a blast reading about them!

The plot isn't revolutionary (I didn't expect that. it was half troll and half lolzz). But it was hella funny. I think if vampires really do exist, this is exactly how things will turn out. xD

I think you would have to be delusional to not see the similarities between the blurb and a certain popular teen vamp story that shall remain unnamed. But ignore those possible similarities, because they hardly exist at all once you start reading Vampire Crush.

Starting with the cover--I love it. It has a simple beauty, but I will admit that I have no idea how it plays into the story, other than the old fashioned bat&vampire connection.

I'm beyond over the vampire craze, but since I'll be one of the stops on the Vampire Crush blog tour, I wanted to have an opportunity to read it beforehand. I was pleasantly surprised with Vampire Crush, and so glad it didn't resemble that other vampire series that shall still remain unnamed.

I believe the majority of the characters were well developed. I liked the heroine, although she irked me from time to time with her editor-in-chief determination when there were far more important things going in her life. James was adorable, and I particularly loved Violet.

Vampire Crush had an edge to it that was fun and witty. I found myself smiling on numerous occasions, and even laughing out loud a few times. It never once lost my attention, and I devoured it from front to back without feeling the slightest sense of boredom. The only negative thing I would have to say about it is the ending. I wish it had packed a bigger punch, but I'm still pleased with the book as a whole.

Overall, it was a lot of fun to read, and I'll definitely be looking out for anything else A. M. Robinson writes!

I'm a 63 year old woman who has never read a vampire book in my life and never thought I would. The whole "Twilight" thing just seemed crazy to me. However, my best friend's daughter wrote this one, so I felt compelled to read it.

I loved it! I know I'm prejudiced, but this is a great book for teen readers and adults alike. Not only is it funny in that it doesn't take the vampire craze too seriously, it tells the story of a very normal teenage girl, Sophie, who just happens to be living next door to a vampire. As he turns out to be a boy she once had a crush on makes the story even more compelling. All the very real high school angst is represented here and the vampires just add one more emotional problem to all the rest. It is a quick read as the story takes you on Sophie's emotional highs and lows. Every teenager, as well as those of us who once were teenagers, will be able to identify with her in her quest to protect her family and her school from an invasion.

I won't elaborate more, as I don't want to invoke the spoiler alert, but this one really should be a must read.

This is a vampire book that is a little to not believable. I think the author did that on purpose. It's about the coming of life issues that teenagers go through when they find out that the new kids are vamps. For me I found this a little junior high and would not recommend to my book friends due to the immaturity of the writing. This was an outside the box for me. Twilight Parody.

It’s been a while since a book made me laugh out loud. I thought Sophie was the perfect narrator for a teen vampire book that does a good job of both embracing and commentating on vampirism in the mainstream. A relic of its time, I only wish I heard of this book sooner.

I am officially dubbing Vampire Crush as the best book ever. I loved this book. I decided this when Sophie mentioned Harry Potter on page twelve. I don't want to the joke, because i about peed my pants when i read it, but here is a hint...

description

It doesn't just stop there either. The book is just great. At first i was wary when reading it, because i was scared it was going to just be a lame twilight wanna be. By page 30 all my fears of James being Edward were gone. Sophie is DEFINITELY no Bella Swan! There are quite a few slight references/jabs to Twilight in here. Now, I am a fan of Twilight so don't start on me about that. Besides, everyone is doing it. geeze.

description

Do YOU remember who's face is behind that book? LOL

The author gives excellent insight into not only the head of a teenager but then head of a teenage vampire. Once you read this, I know you will agree with me. The book was charming and funny. It kept me interested from the first word to the last.

The only thing i didn't like about this book, is that it ENDED! There are no #2s #3s nothing!!

description

The book was written in 2010, so i doubt there will be any. I was very much hoping to see Sophie and James's relationship develop and See what happens when the Danae find out about (what I started to call her in my head) the star child. I would have just loved to see where it was all going!

Even though no one got chlamydia, and they're aren't penises drawn in the margins of the book, this book was just so much fun to read. Completely 5 star worthy.

I just have to say that I loved this book SO much! It was on my shelves and I kept being drawn to it, something about the cover and the title just kept calling to me, but I was in the middle of about 6 other books, so I thought it best to finish one of them before I started another book. I couldn't do it, though. I just felt a pull to this book, so I picked it up and figured I would start it, get over the pull, then put it down until I had time to finish it. Well, that didn't happen! I couldn't put this book down! It was just a quick, FUN read! And when I say fun, I mean that the plot moved right along at a really good pace, the characters developed in a very believable way for the most part (they are teenagers, after all, so you have to leave a little leeway for teenage angst!), and the dialogue was just plain funny most of the time! I found myself actually laughing out loud at half of what came out of Sophie's mouth! ** Very slight spoiler alert ** James was a wonderful character, full of confusion and questions about how to deal with being a vampire, a decision he made when he was hurt and confused following the death of his parents, and investigating the possibility of perhaps being able to change himself back to a human, if only he, and his 6 friends, can find one special girl, who rumor has it has "special" blood that may be able to turn him back. Sophie is trying to figure out her feelings for her old nemesis growing up. And the other vamps are dealing with problems of their own: how to blend in with the teenagers at school being one of them, with often hilarious results. The end was only a very tiny bit predictable (for the most part), but since it was one of many possible outcomes, it still came as a surprise, and it was written in a very fresh, new way, so it did not disappoint at all!

I could go on, but I don't want to spoil this wonderful book for anyone. It really was a very quick read - I started it yesterday morning and I finished it yesterday evening! Yes - it was THAT good! I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that there will be a second book, and even better, a whole series, of books to come!

Quick summary: If I could give this book 6 stars, I would! I highly, highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun, lighthearted, totally addictive book to read :)

I swear, my life was always totally normal. Normal house, normal family, normal school. My looks are average, I don't have any superpowers, no one's showing up to tell me I'm a princess—you get the picture. And he knows the new kids, all of whom seem to be harboring some kind of deep secret. . . .
)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
))))))))))))))))

a guy named vlad and others come, because vlad wants to find an ancient girl who can give him connections to others.... Sophie see's james back, and thinks why is he back. his parents died, and he knows the new weird kids in school. later on she finds out that the new kids and him r vampires, and that vlad is here to find a girl with a birthmark on her back that can look like anything, and is shaped like a star. and that girl is her! vlad doesnt find out though until he rips her shirt from her at a pool party. vlad is a bad guy who wants to use sophie to make her marry him and turn vamp so that he can be not untamed(or whatever). in the end vlad is killed, sophie survives with the help of james, which is incredible because when james turned sophie..her heart was still beating...which means shes alive but not vamp!and sophie and james are finally together!!!
overall i thought this book was a fun short-read, and i recommend it to those that like short funny books that they just want to sit down and laugh alittle about.

Sophie McGee.

Finally a smart protagonist. Sophie knows when somethings not right and she’s determined to find out. I’ll make this spoiler free & just state the obvious.

Every character in this book is fitting and perfect to the T. Noone was too evil & noone was too smart for their own good. Everyone had there own personality, except the twins of course. And everyone had a purpose. There were no random characters thrown in the book just for a filler.

The flow of the story was great. It went from the basic getting to know the character straight to the action. Page after page it just kept getting better & better. Not to mention the blossoming romance between Sophie & James. Nothing happened to fast and nothing went to slow.

One thing that annoyed me though was the mention of Sophie’s freckled body over & over again. By the third time her freckles were mentioned & Vlad was asking people about marks I knew she was the one. I mean it was bound to happen, but just for once in a book I’d like it if the main character wasn’t the CHOSEN ONE.

Overall though, I’d say it was a great book.

I laughed my way through this book, and then got a little scared (!!!), and then found myself laughing again.

First things first, Sophie McGee. Sophie is smart, driven and witty, and thankfully for us readers, is not the type to go cross-eyed and weak at the knees when being seduced by a vampire. Luckily, we have the pleasure of being inside of her hilarious head for 400+ pages. Robinson's descriptions of other characters' idiosyncrasies through Sophie's eyes had me giggling, whether it was Violet's dedication to magazine-learning or Neal's hamster-filled pockets.

Characters like Sophie (and Vlad, and Caroline, and James...) are what make VAMPIRE CRUSH so entertaining. If you're looking for a smart and entertaining read, then this has it all: the troubles of high school, the terrors of vampires, the difficulties in trying to do the right thing, and the struggle for a girl like Sophie to face her feelings. Oh, AND a pretty badass fight scene.

Now I just want to see more of Sophie McGee!

I loved it.

Sophie's character was real, straight-forward and downright hilarious. You couldn't help but love her.

James was sweet and the way James' and Sophie's relationship was brought- Sophie's take on him and their history together- made me love it and made it unique.

And the story, it isn't often that you come across a vampire story that manages to be hilarious, interesting and have just the right amount of action to top it all off. This one did. And usually broodiness comes with the vampire territory. This one didn't, and it's still good. How about that. People, miracles can still happen. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the broodiness one bit, but it's nice to see that there is more then one way to write a vampire tale. And the author even managed to hint at some of the more ridiculous characteristics that can be attributed to vampires, according to some authors. Ssssh... don't tell anyone. It was hilarious.

3.5 stars.

I really liked this book. Its heroine was seriously awesome and I laughed out loud quite a few times.
She was snarky and sarcastic and SMART. I say smart because here's a girl that just found out that the new kids in school are vamps and that her frenemy from childhood, James, was back and... all grown up, and she's not all lovesick-googly-eyed over the vamps either. She actually wants to get rid of them.

But then she finds out what James has been hiding and well, we know how that story goes, but she's not hasty in jumping into a relationship with him. She's finding out that the once little boy who'd thrown her Little Mermaid flip flop over the fence, which ended up in it being lost forever, isn't quite the same but... he gets her.

This was a very well written story. It was fast paced and held my attention but the ending seemed a little anticlimactic, and just left me with more questions than answers really. That's probably the only downfall to this book. Meh.

So yes this is a vampire novel that might be similar to other ones, but I guess that doesn't bother me. First off there were a number of times that I laughed out loud at something someone said or did. I really like Sophie and of course James (totally adorable but not without his faults/issues), but there were some great secondary characters as well. The "evil" vampire Vlad made me laugh right away because it sounded so cliche and I knew from there that the book would be that way and it was great. There was a lot going on in the book and I don't think everything was answered so I hope there is another book. I would recommend this book if you don't mind reading more vampire stories and if you want one that is serious and funny at the same time. I really enjoyed it!

This book was amazing. It was full of humor, well developed characters and great pacing. Sophie is a great heroine and is a very witty, intelligent, quirky, sarcastic and infinitely curious character. Being in her head for a whole book was a delight - I don't think I've ever laughed this much with a book. The romance in the book is well done and not angst ridden. I have to say that I was skeptical about this book because it was another teen vampire romance novel, but what's great about this one in particular is that it does not take itself seriously (there's even a reference to twilight in it). The vampires were well portrayed as well. I loved every character, even the villain was hilarious. Oh and I loved the banter between Sophie and James. Just a great read overall, I loved this book.
