Piper is cheery and positive, no matter what confronts her—including all the strange beings she meets during her journey into the city. When the creatures are negative, uglies fly out of their mouths and stick to Piper, dimming her glow. Can Piper find her positive shine again after she is completely covered in uglies?
Piper is a story of staying positive in challenging situations, and recognizing that we control how we react to stressors. It teaches children the value of optimism and finding happiness within.
Previously an elementary teacher, Arielle Haughee (Hoy) is a multi-genre author living in Florida. She has a serious reading addiction, fantasy romance her absolute favorite, and loves nothing more than good conversation paired with a good wine. She is surrounded by males at home—a husband, two sons, and an energetic dog—and tries to integrate as much purple and flowers in the house as possible.
Arielle is a six-time RPLA-winning author and the owner of Orange Blossom Publishing. She is an editor, speaker, and writing coach, and was previously the Executive Vice President and Marketing Chair for the Florida Writers Association. She was honored with the President’s Award from FWA in 2020, and in 2021 Pling’s Party was awarded Children’s Book of the Year. Her press, Orange Blossom Publishing, publishes books about love, humor, and wellness for women and children.
Arielle writes children's picture books, a variety of short work, adult fantasy, and writing craft books.
What a fun, creative, and delightfully illustrated story about not letting the negativity around us dim our own glow. In the spirit of author Haughee’s ‘Grumbler’, Piper is a sweet, adorable character (a drop of honey) who encounters some strange-looking creatures who cover Piper with their uglies (negativity) and dim her glow. Piper’s secret to keeping the uglies away is sure to be a lasting lesson for both children and adults. The illustrations will capture and hold the attention of little learners, along with the fun words that are sprinkled throughout. I read an electronic version in exchange for an honest review. (PS - If you haven’t read Grumbler, it’s a must-read about sharing love.)
Arielle Haughee has written another enjoyable children’s story with her latest book “Piper.” I love that the main character continues to see, hear and sense the good things around her, even when the “uglies” become overwhelming. Arielle’s names of these creatures will amuse young children and generate more than a few laughs. I also want to give a shout out to Marina Veselinovic for her beautiful and colorful illustrations which make “Piper” even more delightful.
Piper won't let anything steal her glow! What a great message for children and adults alike. Piper's spirit is bright until she encounters unkindness. Mean words threaten to steal her joy, but Piper knows true joy, the source of her glow, is found on the inside. A delightful story, told and illustrated with vibrance, color, and a lot of love. I highly recommend for children and adults of all ages.
A wonderfully sweet story about Piper finding her inner light and helping others to find theirs as well. Beautifully written and illustrated with bright colors and creative characters. My kids loved this great children’s book and yours will too!
A sweet and adorable drop of inspiration! Piper's positive message reminds the reader to keep their happiness 'shining through' even on difficult days! LOVED IT!
