"I loved joining Rose and Noah during their journey in the Temptation series by Karen Hopkins."-Katie McGarry, acclaimed YA author
Karen Ann Hopkins resides in northern Kentucky with her family on a farm that boasts a menagerie of horses, goats, sheep, peacocks, chickens, ducks, rabbits, pigs, dogs, and cats. Karen rescues and fosters a variety of pets and farm animals, but she also finds time to give riding lessons, coach a youth equestrian drill team, and of course, write. She was inspired to create her first book, Temptation, by the Amish community she lives in. The experiential knowledge she gained through her interactions with her neighbors drove her to create the story of the star-crossed lovers, Rose and Noah.
Karen grew up about a mile from Lake Ontario in Upstate New York. She was bitten by the horse bug at the age of five, and after diligently taking riding lessons for several years, she was rewarded with her first horse at the age of eleven. The feisty horse's name was Lady, a Quarter Horse-Thoroughbred cross, who became Karen's steadfast companion. Through the years, the constant force in her life was horses. Eventually, Karen found her place as a riding instructor herself. Before accepting her fate in the barnyard, she worked a short stint as a paralegal, traveled abroad, and guided tourists on horseback riding tours in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.
Karen is currently working on her two interconnecting mystery/crime fiction series, Serenity's Plain Secrets and Possum Gap, along with several new projects.

It just never ends for Serenity. She seems to be at the behest of the bishop running off to sort Amish problems while worrying about her husband and child at home yet again. It's a good thing her friend came with her even though she was not off on the Florida jolly she expected. The hurricane/tornado was well described and set the scene for a dramatic ending with voodoo and some black magic involved but I will never understand why cops don't have a lanyard on their weapon to stop them dropping it at the first hint of trouble.
This sheriff gets herself into more jams than it's credible to believe. The story throws the reader into what could be the end of the sheriff's finding and rescuing a young boy, doped up with heroin in New Orleans. She driving into Florida to tell his family and convince them to leave the Amish community. Then her best friend arrives, and later a US Marshall friend. What a scary mystery they are involved in! I could not quit reading. Thankfully it is early afternoon, so I probably won't be having this nightmare tonight!
This is the first of the Serenity books that I have read, and may well be the last! Too many edits required. Does anyone use a proofreader nowadays? As an author (non-fiction) myself, I would never publish without at least two proofreadings. On the positive side, an author who can produce a tale without having to resort to blasphemous language. Thank you.
This was a very interesting book. It continued on with the career of Serenity Adam’s,Sheriff of Blood Rock. She seems to always be requested on cases outside her jurisdiction. Voodoo, Amish and serial killers! Definitely kept my interest. Yes, I would recommend this book. Excitement and surprises throughout!
A good read. Full of action. Serenity is looking for a young girl so she is surprised when she finds Toby looking for a escaped killer. Are their cases related? Will they be able to find who they are looking for before it is too late? Will they cross a line in their friendship? Good & evil will battle each other to see who the winner will be.
Another great book. Full of adventure, murder and mystery. I loved this continuation from the last one. Serenity certainly has a death wish. She has more lives than a dozen cats. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of you seat. Definitely worth reading. The extra ingredients are the serial killer and the magic touch. Awesome.
The pace and changing clues will keep a reader's interest in this original plot. The hints of evil, witchcraft contrast well with the faithful Amish people's pious lifestyle. But the inner turmoil of the sheriff's personal life vs. Career choices only add to the depth of the characters.
I have been addicted to Serenity’s story over the years, but this one is the best to date. It challenges her as a police officer, a wife and a human. Overcoming evil is not as easy as she anticipated, but she perseveres. Wow!!
I love the entire series Karen Ann Hopkins has written about Sheriff Serenity. They are good mysteries that will frequently fool you. Great reads. Her Possum Gap series looks to be as good as this one but Im sure I’ll always have a special spot for Sheriff Serenity!
Although I haven't read any other of KH books, I thought she did a great job of keeping the story moving. Her details and character development added to the mystery and thriller aspect of this unusual setting . I actually felt a deep loss, almost as if I were there. A very bizarre story!
As usual this book is well written with very interesting characters. The different places are well described. The plot moved along well with lots of twists to keep you interested.
Mystery, murder, voodoo, supernatural witchery all play a part in the events of of Sheriff Adams trying to solve another case with the help of her friend CJ and US Marshall Toby Bryant.
Stilted, unbelievable, ridiculous. Furthermore when you can’t be bothered to tie all the loose ends together chuck in an occultism figure with magic powers to explain it all away. A reasonable plot wasted and the characterisation leaves a lot to be desired too.
Each book in this series continues to add more evil. Voodoo, out of body visions and alligators. Oh and throw in a hurricane for good measure. You just have to keep turning the pages. Serenity might have to soon choose family or career. Hmmm.
This was an edge of your seat book. Twists and turns kept you wondering just how it would end. And one character surprisingly contributes to the shocking ending.
Like the other books in series Karen has done an amazing job of telling the story that will keep you reading and not want ing to put it down. A very good author!
Continued editing errors. Just 200 pages to end what was left hanging from #14. Weak plot if you can even call it that. Rent must have been due to release this as a book.
