Ellen has been the family breadwinner while her men are off in Europe, making the world safe for democracy. But with the war over, Sydney, the man whose job she held, is back, and she is unemployed. And now Sydney is stalking her! At her mother's suggestion she becomes a mail-order bride. But has she fled far enough to be safe?
I usually really like books by Elissa Strati, but I am afraid I didn't like this one. It is written from multiple points of view, not just two or three but I lost count there were so many, it has a huge cast which when added to the multiple pov makes it very confusing and almost exhausting to read as you try to keep track of the different threads being woven and who is related to who. There are also a number of threads that are left incomplete...what happened to the investigation into the bank? What did Henri do? Where did he go? What happened to Sydney? For such a busy story there are still lots of unanswered questions and unclear actions. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
What a story! I liked the way the author told Ellen's story and some of the unexpected sprinkled in. I really got into the story and all the great moments. This can stand alone just fine.
A bit of sass and bravery makes Ellen a great catch.
Ellen understands a lot of the ways people think. She is highly intelligent and mature. She has great moral values and proper manners. She has the smarts for business and she has what it takes to survive in a world of war and loss of men in her family. A lot of twists. A stalker that threatened to compromise her sister. Steps taken to save her sister. Very good reading here
I enjoyed this book. We get romance, humor, great characters, a bit of history and a good story line. I love the author notes at the end of the book giving details regarding her research. I look forward to her next book.
This is a sweet, romance novel that tells the tale of multiple couples. It has a fast moving pace but easily followed and very enjoyable. I love a wide variety of reading genres and am glad I came across the Rescue Me series as it has introduced me to several authors that I'd like to explore further. If you enjoy sweet historical/western frontier stories then this series may be perfect for you to start. My only complaint so far is that I want longer stories to read, but have found several great authors to read.
To many questions left behind. I realize you do this to leave yourself more room to write, but at least 4 spinoffs from one very well written short story. I will probably end up reading them all but would have liked to have the link between the banker and Ellen's great-grandfather answered.
I'm used to reading mail order bride stories from the "old West". This story was way too modern for me and I couldn't get past the second chapter. This story was too contemporary for me and I prefer historical. However, if you like the more modern (not 1800's) type of story, then you may enjoy this.
I enjoyed Ellen's story, but I must admit I got lost a few times with the amount of characters. There is a list at the beginning of the book, so easy to check. With that exception, this is a good read.
I found it very hard to follow this story because of all the war talk. I did enjoy Ellen's story. I like this series very much. This one was just written differently.
