I'm a ghostwriter who got tired of writing other people's bestsellers, so I started publishing my own. I craft slow burn romances with darkly sensual anti-heroes, weak-to-strong heroines, and a liberal smattering of darkness. When I'm not writing the latest Esryian Tales episode, I work as a peer counselor for burn survivors throughout North America. I roost in Mexico City with my wonderfully supportive spouse, our two goofy kids, and five spoiled dogs.

Chemistry was amazingly hot! 🔥

This was a very fun and sexy book. It's a slow burning, chemistry burning book. I honestly liked both hero and heroine which I feel is rare. They both had so much chemistry together that had me feeling like "when will this baby making begin already!" LOL but it was perfect because it made it so much more than just to bodies doing the mambo if you know what I mean. I would recommend this because to everyone who loves romance in a fantasy land. Dragons, humans and elfs oh my. I finished this book so fast, it had me wanting more which sadly I will have to wait for book 2 but I will be here.
Also problem free I would say. So if you want something light hearted, this is for you.

Ps. This was my first book from this author and let me say I will be looking for more of her books. Do give this book a chance, I honestly don't believe you'll regret it. My honest opinion.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Written well, but this slow burn romance lost my interest to continue the series.

This didn’t work for me:

1. Heroine’s character arc feels forced.

She is set up as a Cinderella, underestimated, looked down type but she isn’t like that at all.

I like unlikeable heroines and I like heroines we are meant to sympathize with. What I don’t like is when an author tells us a heroine is one thing but shows us something quite different.

It reminds me of mid historical romances that do archetype switcheroo. This often happens with the “fallen woman/siren/flirtatious butterfly” who is quickly shown as a broken woman that is so un-fun the reader cannot believe they could entice anyone into sin.

Here, the heroine is just not clicking for me. She was scared of the elf lord but quickly speaks to him as an equal in ways that feel unearned. Unearned meaning I wish she had more fear, but spoke. Or had some realization that she didn’t need to be scared. She just isn’t. She also has these odd power struggles with the woman assigned to train her.

2. Hero only likes heroine because she looks like his people.

It’s insta-love. He treats her so nicely all because she looks like the people of his house. He admits it. Yes, he admits he finds her attractive when she was human, but it feels superficial that he wants to respect her after she looks basically like him. It has this grooming undertone that feels unintended by the author.

This book surprised me. By the title and cover, this would normally be something I’d hide if I was out in public (it’s romance, I get it, you need to be obvious to your audience). What surprised me was the amount of world building, descriptions, and slow burn conversation. Completely unexpected and enjoyable!

The weirdest part about this was the author’s note. This book was originally posted in Kindle Vella (serial postings where people pay per section/chapter).

“While I’ve endeavored to make each novel volume an enjoyable read, it doesn’t follow the traditional narrative arcs that non-serial readers are accustomed to. …Sometimes a plot thread will be presented in one volume, and then seemingly be dropped, only to surprise you two volumes later when it’s neatly woven back into the tapestry of the serial.”

What an odd thing to have to explain to a reader. If it’s a good story, then it’ll be a good story—whether it’s something I’m “accustomed to” or not.

“Characters are unlikely to fundamentally change in a single volume, but rather in an incremental manner, and in reaction to major life events and costly lessons.”

Nothing heats your blood up in an elven romance like a lecture on character development, am I right? 😉🔥

Perhaps the author has had criticism around this, but I encourage them to have more confidence in their work and their audience. My previous Kindle Vella experience was unimpressive, and paying per chapter was annoying. This was what I was looking for—a developing story that isn’t cutting characters off mid-sentence (also thanks to my Kindle Unlimited free trial).

Overall, an enjoyable read! I have my thoughts about some of the characters, but we’ll see where they go.

Not My Favorite

This book is very flowery with drawn out descriptions and many extra paragraphs of world building that come across as an info-dump. I didn't find myself rooting for the couple at all, especially since the male lead held zero interest in the female lead until after she changed appearance. It feels disingenuous, even within the world of the novel. I won't be picking up the next installment.

So I went into this one blind. Someone had this shelved on their “virgin heroines” shelf and on a whim, I decided to give it a try. I like elves and virgin heroines, so why not?

And I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. The heroine is given to to the high lord of the elves, a mysterious and powerful and icy character, for the sole purpose of carrying his heir. The writing is clear and smooth and vivid. There’s a slow build up between the hero and heroine. The hero starts off with the intention of rejecting the heroine—not overtly, but sneakily planning to give her to his nephew. But those plans fall thru when the heroine is bound to him. And I loved to watch his possessiveness come out.

The heroine was awesome. She wasn’t silly or annoying, she would stand up tothe hero without being an obnoxious Karen, and she viewed her circumstances with a pragmatism that was refreshing even while her romantic heart yearned for the impossible.

What I didn’t like:

1. this isnt a standalone and it ends on a cliffhanger, with no baby in sight, so there are more books to read and who knows what’ll happen in them?

2. The hero is a 1000 years old (this didn’t bother me) and has never been able to reproduce, despite having made multiple attempts with previous concubines to do so. This also didn’t bother me. He’s 1000 year old ruler, he’d be irresponsible if he DIDNT try and have an heir. WHAT I did find gross and unnecessary was his cast-off OWs dragged into the story and shoved into the heroines face, so much so that the heroine’s personal aide is one of the OWs. This was insulting and degrading to the heroine and it did NOTHING to help the story. It was just a slimy insertion. I dropped a star for that alone.

But overall I liked it and I’ll continue with the series—hopefully there won’t be unnecessary and ugly drama just to draw out the story.

Safe-ish. Hero’s past is mentioned but nothing overly sexual and while he’s had concubines before, he didn’t seem to have any emotional attachment or love for them. And he didn’t come off as a manwhore, in one part implying he’s been celibate for a while. Heroine is a virgin and gives the hero the gift of claiming all her firsts, belonging only to him. OW drama as hero’s former cast offs are still in the palace and in his life. No cheating or sharing or abuse. No HEA. Cliffhanger

I have never heard of this author before, but for sure I am going to keep an eye out for her.

The plot and style reminded me a bit of Alisyn Fae`s The Fae Prince of Everenne installment. If there is a trend that wants to emerge, I am here for it. I want to read about complicated political schemes and plots taking place in courts populated by immortal beings with enormous power and kinky issues.

However, in what concerns this book I would have liked to see more work done on worldbuilding because it feels like only the main love interest has some solid character development, while the rest (including the main character) are some un-denominated characters.

I also take issue with the way the main character comes to have her powers. She is given the blood of the fae/elven lord and she becomes like him (or something that can be considered close to his kin). It weirds me out a bit how he falls in love with her, afterward. Because, technically she is like a sister or at least some blood relative – IF- she transformed after she received his blood -meaning that her organism received his blood. (But, I am trying to make an abstraction of that, even now while reading the second book).

But, overall, it was a fun read. I recommended it, for sure.

I found The Elven Lord’s Concubine to be a marvelous read which tells the story of Cera Wyntre who has been sold to Elven Lord Isael Eshval as a catalyst for bearing his heirs. This was a very imaginatively conceived of storyline that kept me enraptured with its intricately detailed world from the first pages.
A Kindle Vella serialization these first episodes 1-16 in volume one lays down the foundation for a flawlessly written tale filled with vibrant characters, intrigue, romance and glimpses of what yet is to come. Happily, for now ending.

Highly Recommended!

Anticipating waffle and or smut, instead this novel is a delightfully fantasy.

Wonderful

Well written, good plot. I enjoyed it so much! Only 1 spicy scene, but I like that it's because the ML took the time to get to know the FL. Downloading the next one asap.

INTERESTING AND HAS PLENTY OF POTENTIAL. I LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT INSTALLATION! This story would have been better if the slow burn wasn't...stilted. It might be unfair of me to compare with highly-rated fae stories I've read with well-paced and better written chemistry/sexual attraction because I honestly didn't feel any REAL or NATURAL attraction between the MCs. IT WAS (a little) AWKWARD.

Only till the end was I more convinced that the male lead ISAEL was truly captivated by our heroine, because she started off with the ugly duckling vibes before turning into a swan. That SWAN version of her, made him changed his attitude almost overnight, so you can imagine my disbelief.

ISAEL is the high lord of elves and much more. Frankly, the book is quite heavy on the politics and yes, naturally there's a lot of world building stuff to take in, so pardon me if I addressed his position wrongly. Was it boring? No, in fact, it was entertaining and intriguing, though I would have liked to read more ISAEL and CERA bonding time. Mostly, their conversations were platonic, doubtful and polite without a hint of attraction. It's like trying to cross a roomful of sleeping children. The attraction building wasn't fluid (more like I was being TOLD instead of feeling their burgeoning feelings), and it soon plunged into insta-love territory - at least on ISAEL's part. Despite having a glimpse of his character, there wasn't enough to warm me up to him, so hopefully we'll get to see a softer side of ISAEL later - MORE- than what we've seen here. When the blurb mentioned him as "cold", yeah no kidding, apart from sex, ISAEL acted quite like an impenetrable statue with plenty of discipline.

That being said, I had HIGH HOPES for the heroine who was SPECIAL enough to MOVE A STATUE...but I have to say I wasn't impressed.

CERA's a little bland for me. Neither dull-witted nor entirely captivating either. Compared again to other heroines I've read, Cera lacked colour. Maybe she's meant to be that way, and she'll blossom in time given how she has lived her life being rejected and castigated for being the daughter of a "whore". A princess only in terms, but still a low-born good enough for bargaining. Growing up in her stifling and toxic childhood, Cera's part doormat who accepts her lot in life too easily. Easier to submit than to put up a fight right? Well, that's what made her dull to me. But we have hope! It seems after ingesting ISAEL'S blood and being reborn as an elf, she now manifests unforetold power that could shake the kingdom upon its foundation. Fingers crossesd!

OVERALL this was interesting, PLOT wise, but it lacked real chemistry and attraction I prefer in terms of the romance. In reverse, the world building captured my attention more than the MCs love story who I still have doubts about. Of course, there's the second book to consider and I hope it'll satisfy my current qualms. Unfortunately, if you're looking for good smexy times, there was only ONE (rather awkward and mayhaps rushed sex scene) at the end, but certainly no thrill for readers who enjoy erotica. Nevertheless, it was still an interesting story and I'll wait for the next book!

Not bad. But it also did not wow/break/exceed my expectations.

I maybe wrong, but I think this is what is classified as a romance of manners. And I'm not such a fan of those. So I loved the instances where Cera went against the rules/expectations.

I wasn't such a fan of the age gap as I knew it would mean we are getting a naïve character, but at least it was 21 to however many centuries Isael is and not immediately 18.

The comparisons to her father, while I understand the thinking behind it, it started getting annoying pretty quickly. She has not way of getting back to her previous life and while I get you can't just cut thoughts of your people off, essentially, she had no one to go back to.

Maewyn is written in for the drama, and I am also not a fan of drama from the other woman. If anything, she is serving as a plot filler. Except for the little times where Cera got one over on her, I found her to be annoying. If anything, I feel she'll serve as the antagonist/villain, more in future volumes .

The chemistry/dynamics between Cera+Isael is there, but it is basically slow burn, then, the fact that the initial reason for her to come there was for her to be a concubine/baby carrier, then, she changes, but now all of a sudden her main reason takes a back seat again serves as plot extension but one could call it slow burn as it is termed as wooing.

First half of the book and the last 2 chapters are what really add on to the story. There is a lot of repetition as well as over information of history of elves, humans and dragons in the second half of the book that serves more as filler.

Will I continue with volume 2? Probably not. But I'll give props to this genre of historical-fanstasy is probably the only way I'll willingly read a historical romance book and the way she sussed out Isael.

Writing this review has been really hard, not because the book was bad, but because it was so very good! I didn’t want to just gush over it like a brainless schoolgirl with a crush. The Elven Lord’s Concubine caught my eye because of the stunning cover art. The blurb only further piqued my interest and gave me high hopes that this would be a decent read. Once I started, though, my expectations were wholly shattered as my enjoyment skyrocketed. I was spellbound and read through the night without even realizing that the sun had come up. When I finished Volume One I couldn’t wait for Volume Two’s impending release and for the first time, I sought out Kindle Vella to continue Isael and Cera’s story. I then spent most of the day reading and stayed up until 2am after not having slept the night before. I was chained to my Kindle, mesmerized by every tidbit of new information, every court intrigue, every steamy interlude... I’m obsessed!

Why though? What makes it so good? This is a romance, but it’s one with a stunning amount of depth and world building. The characters are realistic, flawed, and engaging. Isael is a glorious bastard. A man with terrible power and centuries of bitterness, but with his woman? He’s attentive, generous, affectionate - and sometimes perfectly beastly. Cera is young, but clever. She has moments where her age and inexperience work against her, but there’s a hint that someday she’ll be a force of nature. The two of them synergize so well and I can just imagine all the amazing things they could accomplish together. The side characters are equally wonderful. Maewyn, for as much as I’d like to backhand her, is also sympathetic. Mara absolutely delights me with her passion and boldness.

My only nitpick, is the timeline. The book takes place over the course of a few days and I really feel there’s no reason to rush events. Instead of three days, I could see book one taking place over the course of a month instead. That said, I am wondering if there’s a reason the events are squeezed together and so I didn’t remove any stars for this. I haven’t read the entire story (it’s ongoing) and so I will wait to see if there’s a reason that hasn’t been revealed yet. I’m sure the wait will be worth it!

Leona Sure is a brilliant and talented creator. I can’t wait to see what comes next!

The Elven Lord’s Concubine: Volume One was a great read of story building, tales of Fae, Elves, and Dragons, with a touch of fun magic.

Cera, a human, was traded to Isael, a high lord elf, to bear him an heir to the throne. Cera at first was apprehensive and held a sort of businesslike mindset about why she was there, but was later thrown off by Isael wanting to court her.

I really enjoyed learning about Cera’s background and seeing how she holds herself, and I also loved learning slowly about Isael.

This story was a slow burn, that had me on the edge of my seat. Seeing Cera slowly fall into her own (and is still), and Isael growing comfortable enough to truly open up to her about himself was a true joy to experience.

I had been in a reading slump for almost two months, and this story ripped me right out of it. I am excited to read the next installment to see where the story goes!

With the author's note in the beginning I was a little apprehensive starting this. But it was all in my head, this volume of an even bigger story was engaging and suspenseful driven. Not in the mystery/thriller sense but in a 'what will the next chapter give me' way. It kept me in anticipation of wanting to read what I could during my lunch breaks and whenever I had a chance to pick up the book. This first volume was reminiscent of other high fantasy novels, lots of world building full of myths, political intrigue, and that nothing is as what it seems. Cera's pragmatic approach to a new life is refreshing while her curiosity is palpable and understandable. Wouldn't anyone be curious about the world they enter?
The twists are fantastical, the growing relationship between our main characters is both satisfying but also too good to be true, and the secondary characters keep you wondering, will you be the cause of disruption?

I cannot wait for the next volume. I have already gushed about how engrossing this book is to a couple of my coworkers. It has been a while since I felt this excited to continue a high fantasy romance that feels more high fantasy than romance. But all the beats I need in a romance are here and hopefully grow as the story continues.

I started this book in Kindle Vella, and though it isn't my usual type of reading, the artwork engaged me first. When I dove into the first three free episodes, the good writing hooked me well and good! I love character development and this story delivers. I want to see what happens as the relationship between the two main characters develops. Surprisingly for me, I am also hoping to read more about the fantasy world the author has set up. This is a must-read for anyone who loves fantasy world-building. And elves. Who knew elves could be so intriguing?

Overall I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the sequel coming out soon 🥰

There was some decent worldbuilding and I really enjoyed the chemistry between Cera and Isael. One criticism I would give is that I wish the story took place over longer than just a few days so that it felt a little less rushed.

4/5⭐ Recommended for anyone that enjoys to read fantasy romance about elves/fae

This was my story by Leona Sure and I am impressed. The storyline is unique and so very much pulled me in. I really enjoyed Isael and Cera. The both have fantastic personalities that are felt throughout the story. They have this easy banter and chemistry. Vera definitely has this sweet personality but you can see the intelligence in her thoughts and words. We can see that this is definitely a fantastic series as it pulls you in and has you absolutely needing to what happens. The story is not packed with action but we definitely see a build up with the background information and the drama that has played out in it. This is definitely a must read and I am excited to read more.

Once you start this book you'll wish for more

The book is good but its hard for me to rate a 5 when I felt it was more of a short story that's incomplete and that if I want the rest now I must buy into Kindle Vella which is more expensive then buying a novel. Like I said the book was so good I couldn't wait and did what I swore I'd never do is give my money to Kindle Vella. I for some reason feel robbed by this format I already belong to kindle unlimited and I buy books all the time on my tablet since there a click away and not a bookstore away.

FOMO should be haunting you

This author has got it all. The plot, tight and meaty, characters are fascinating (and hot, love me a dragon demi god), world building spot on, very cinematic. Technical skills are ace, great grammar, spelling, vocabulary. Seriously, this is going to be a stupendous, stellar standout series. ;-)

Started reading this story on Amazon Vella, but was unimpressed with the pay per chapter and single column reading format. Unfortunately for me, I was hooked from the very first chapter! I didn't know it at the time, but plans were already in the works for offering this story on Unlimited and for purchase! As I used up all my free tokens on Vella, I was struggling with the idea of purchasing more tokens when I noticed Volume 1 had become available for purchase! I can't say enough good things about this book so far! It's everything my romantic heart desires in a love story and Cera is a woman I can identify with. I don't know where this story is going to take me, but I'm eagerly and happily along for the ride to its completion. I honestly cannot wait to see where we go from here! Desperately awaiting Volume II's release on Valentine's Day!

The Elven Lord's Concubine is a lush dark fantasy romance in a world rich in treacherous beauty. Cera is a catalyst, which allows her to be mated to any magical being that struggles with reproduction. As such she is sold to Isael, the high lord of the elves, who reluctantly plans on using her to continue his line. The mating ceremony has much stronger results than planned, causing a cascade of repercussions. As Cera and Isael adapt to these changes, the implications of their relationship reveals hidden dangers of their world.

Cera is not naive but is uneducated in her new surroundings and situations. She trusts others very little as she navigates the political landscape, and she makes for an empathetic protagonist. In her eyes, Isael is almost overwhelming in beauty, strength, and intelligence and his true feelings and plans are opaque.

As a first part of a serial, there is still much to be discovered. A truly bewitching tale that leaves you itching for more.

★ Amazing dark fantasy world ★

—>>> Amazing dark fantasy world created in this first installment. Engaging storyline and main characters drew me in, their fledgling romance a thrilling happenstance for Isael, who had nearly given up finding a match to continue his unique elven bloodline. The stage is set at his court for the rest of their tale.

I loved this book. I read it in two days. I wanted to give it 5 stars but there were too many typos and I don't know if it was the program I was using or what, but the first lines of all but one chapter were overlaying each other. Otherwise, the world-building was good. The characters were solid. The plot is well-developed and interesting. I didn't want to put the book down. Although this series is continuous like a trilogy, the ending did not leave me hanging so badly that I would be angry. I'm ready for the next book!!!

I genuinely added this read to my Kindle as a joke???? So why is it so good actually????

Like, what the heck? I’m now reading this Elvish Concubine series at a rate so rapid you would think I clearly must have been on a book hunger strike for at LEAST a millennia before stumbling across this little gem of an oasis to quench me rabidness. I’m seriously howling over here the more I think about it. 🤣🤣

When I say that I downloaded this originally to one part make fun of, one part reminisce fondly over, and one part in hopes of launching my voracious reader brain into space-orbiting levels of high fantasy, total escapism. Reading this (-clearly-) quickly turned into me (-of course-) eating my own- ‘I think I’m very clever’, self-satisfied, smug, Mr. Grinch curling ‘look what I just found on my Kindle Discover tab’ smile- Hat soon after. 🔥🔥🧢🔥🔥

This book was good. This book was FUN. This book was so easy to sink into and love. I swooned (and giggled for a hot sec) over the included artwork of the total 80’s-bait, High Elf Lord with the obvious L’Oreal Paris shampoo and conditioner set- and the Tresemme full body hair spray to go with it.

I wanted to find something I hated but I didn’t, I vibed that much with this read. The ML? Interesting. No obvious red flags as of yet. The FL? Curious. Smart. Observational. Astounding decorum. Highly adaptable. Mental fortitude? Fort Knox. 👑 Girl might seem like a weakling pushover at first but she has this utterly enticing internal resilience to herself that makes her easy to empathize and fall in love with. 🩷🩷🩷

(Side note, Maewyn can absolutely go ahead and chuck nothing less than her WHOLE body off of the extra high bounce-house)

I personally, 10 out of 10, recommend this book to those who long to transport themselves back to a far more magical girlhood era of David Bowie in the Labyrinth, Westley from the Princess Bride, and a young Legolas from LOTR. 🤯
