Successful banker and action-seeker Daniel Spencer wants an extreme experience. A chance encounter with the head of a Maritime Security company has him sign up to join an exclusive club known as Deep Six. But what is the Deep Six? Caught in the web of its sinister war games, Daniel finds that he and his girlfriend, the daughter of billionaire shipping tycoon Christos Pathos, are now pawns in a deadly game of piracy.

An elusive woman known as the Rain Angel and the CIA are involved.
At the centre of the high-stakes action thriller is Mark McCabe, former banker and SAS officer. Hired by Pathos to rescue his daughter from Abshir Mohammed, the pirate warlord, he enlists his old friend and MI5 agent Mike Mooney. Ogilvy learns of McCabe’s involvement and forces him to work for MI6 and track down Abshir. McCabe must secure the ship and its cargo, but he discovers that the pirates are not the only danger. He also gets a call from his nemesis the Rain Angel. In a bid to work out whom to trust he must use all his skills to uncover the truth.
His first novel entitled 'Quantum Breach' the first in a trilogy following the adventures of a charismatic character named Mark McCabe was released in 2009. His second novel entitled 'Deep Six' a well researched action novel set against the topical and dynamic subject of Somali pirates was well received when it hit the streets in July 2010. In the works is his third novel‘The Somali Sanction’. Due for release in 2011.
I managed to get a sneak peak and read of the manuscript via a friend who knows him and served with him. I hope Mark won't mind, given I thought it was brilliant. He has chosen a time and topic that just screams film deal. The plot is excellent, original and well written. I loved this book and it set's Powell up as one to follow. He has found the magic in this one. The characters are so good you just want to slap some of them, hide from others and make friends with the rest. Five stars my friend. You dared, you win!!
For those who have not had the luck I had - this is the plot.

Caught in the web of its sinister war games,Daniel finds that he and his girlfriend, the daughter of billionaire shipping tycoon Christos Pathos, have now become pawns in a deadly game of Somali high-seas piracy.
At the centre of the high-stakes action thriller is Mark McCabe,(Read also Quantum Breach, Powell's first novel. Powell is this you?)former banker and SAS officer. Hired by Pathos to rescue his daughter,McCabe discovers that the CIA and M16 are involved and the pirates are not the only danger.
This book really had me turning pages. It seems Powell has now found his stride and I think we will see him continue to get better and better. As a critic I get to read many books, but I like Powell's open and honest style. He has nothing to hide and writes from the heart. He will produce a bestseller of that I am sure. Deep Six may be the one!
Deep Six takes us on an adventure, Somali Pirate action which builds to a great climax. Just enough action, not too much romance and loads of facts. The research paid off and you just know Powell has been in the thick of it.
Great book, Great plot, a must read. He is one to follow.
After reading the first book by this promising new author - Quantum Breach, I was so looking forward to his second book - Deep Six, knowing that he has put in so much efforts and researches to make it the very first "Faction" based on the Somali pirates. I knew he will get even better with his 2nd book and he didn't fail me! Deep Six is absolutely the page turner and it got my heart pounding with many brilliant and exciting action plots.
Deep Six will make a good movie script in my point of view and I'm hoping that the film people will have the same thought as mine!
Two thumbs up! This book kept me locked in my seat, out of it when the action fired up. The pace is good right from the first page. I was asked to read one of the first copies. Very glad I did. Very good indeed. I would go as far as to say that Powell has a winner on his hands. The plot is so original and the characters just keep you reading. Well done Mark. New York Times, read it and add to your best sellers list soon. It will make it!
Any minus points, only that I didnt want it to end. I'm hooked on this author now.
I really loved this book. It was fast paced, exciting and extremely well researched. Marks' writing and use of language has evolved ten fold since his first debut novel and the words flowed nicely. It has 'Best Seller' written all over it and Mark has secured a place in among my favorite authors along with James Rollins, Clive Cussler, Dan Brown and Chris Kuzneski to name a few. The content , Somali Pirates, also made it a fascinating read and the characters were well thought out. I really would love to see McCabe continue on in a series of books......how about it Mark? :-)
A very enjoyable read. A large part of the book does involve tying up loose ends so it may not do so well read as a standalone book, but I found the plot progression very satisfying having read "Quantum Breach" prior to this book.
I was told to read this book by a friend. I really enjoyed it. The plot kept me hooked in and I love the characters. I'm not normally a fan of action, but Deep Six was easy to follow and not to complex.
