John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
Essentially a written sermon from an American evangelist. As a still-new Christian, I found this well written and entertaining as a basic guide for developing a closer relationship with God. Plenty of scripture readings and some questions and answers at the end to help fuel further Bible study. The style may be a bit prescriptive for some, but the author's heart is in the right place and it's brief and to the point.
This book is exactly what I expected. It was full of scripture references and highlighted specific parts of God's character. Anytime I read more about Him and learn more of who He is - I am left in awe. Any book that leads me to greater worship of Him is a good book.
I am always thankful for a book that causes me to think upon the greatness of our Lord. It is a true statement that the finite cannot fully comprehend the infinite and for that reason, this is a book that causes you to worship - whether you believe or not. If you're looking to know more about who God is, this book takes a great survey of God's character through the Bible and puts it into an easy language any lay person can understand.
I believe that if a book contains truth, that truth does not change even if the author says or does something stupid subsequently (or even prior). MacaArthur is being an idiot right now. I do not agree with everything he says in this book, including his strong predestination stance. But I nevertheless was spiritually fed by this book, and benefitted from focussing on God's attributes. There was wisdom herein, and I am glad I read it.
A simple yet practical survey of many of God’s attributes. Great to read as a devotional. The last chapter on worship is worth the price of the whole book.
