58 books387 followersReger's friend Nathan Carrico designed Emily in 1991 for a skateboard company in Santa Cruz, where Cosmic Debris was born. In his Santa Cruz garage (and later an artist warehouse in San Francisco) Reger created the designs, and with Matt Reed brought them into the fashion world by creating t-shirt designs that captured the essence of this mysterious young girl with 4 black cats. Since then, Cosmic Debris has grown into a multi-million dollar firm with dozens of employees.
Cosmic Debris has most recently moved its operations to Berkeley, California, and plans to open an Emily retail store there soon. With the momentum of mainstream success, several comics about Emily have also been made. Key creative people over the years (designers, graphic artists, illustrators), who have worked with Reger's Cosmic Debris design house are Buzz Parker, Brian Brooks, Grace Fontaine, Liz Baca, Noel Tolentino, Fawn Gehweiler, Jessica Gruner, Adele Pedersen and Nicomi "Nix" Turner. I love Emily the Strange books! They're STRANGE! I thought they were hilarious. I'm addicted to these books. I'm also totally digging the cover. I am always entertained and laughing out loud, when I read this series. And NO I'm NOT too old for this series either! Anyone in their right mind would read these books. All her little made up curse words (lists of 13) and conversations with people just crack me up. I felt sometimes the plot was a little predictable, but, it wasn't to the point were I was annoyed. I can't really think of anything that I disliked about this book, isn't that awesome?!
Sometimes during this book I caught myself thinking, "I want to be Emily the Strange!", she's just so awesome and quirky. I also go around saying things like "Flutterplacking pigbark!!" or "Craphounds!!". So yeah this is a really quick, clean read that I would recommend to anybody!
So there is my "Doublebricking Gobfarx" review! All I had to say were things I LOVED about it. Most of the time half of my reviews are me hatin' on books, I know, I know, I'm picky.
"Flabbering Jellyjars!!!!!" I Hope you'll love this book as much as I friggin' did! :)

Cada vez más extraña y cada vez me gustan más estos libros 🤭
Emily y sus gatos, se enfrentan a un nuevo problema en sus vidas: tener que convivir con otra Emily "otrayó" como lo explica ella, ¿Se convertirá en una hermana con la que poder hacer travesuras y pasárselo bien, o será una doble mala que quiera acabar con ella y convertirse en una única Emily?
Es una lectura entretenida, me recuerda a cuando de pequeña me leía estos libros y disfrutaba, aventuras simples pero llenas de su propia magia ✨
Está lleno de personajes interesantes, Emily tiene mucha imaginación y arte en sus diseños en el diario, que se podría decir que cada libro es un diario suyo, además, el hecho de siempre inventarse nombres de grupos, le da un toque especial.

'Stranger and Stranger' is honestly not just a great sequel, but a great book on its own. The first 40 pages may drag a little, but once it hits, it really hits. There's a reason this book is my favorite in the series.
First of all, we're meeting Emily for the first time here. In the first book she's got amnesia, and the main plotline is obviously her quest to regain her memories, which in the end she does; so the obvious question for this book is 'Who is Emily when she's not suffering amnesia? How will her memories change her identity and personality?' At the end of Lost Days, she doesn't seem totally different than she was before, she's happy to have her memories back, but there isn't any real marker or acknowledgment of what's different now. In this book we get to see how Emily's true identity and memories play into the story and how they effect her, as a main character.
We see this change introduced through her mom, Patti, who may be my favorite character. Patti and the cats are Emily's family, and Patti is a great contrast to her daughter: she's the light to Emily's dark, the ordinary to her extraordinary, the calm and kindness to Emily's brash recklessness. It's safe to say her influence is what provided Emily with the morals she tries to deny only to cave into at the last minute--without her Emily would totally be a sociopath evil dictator overlord, and that's that on that. Patti is the person Emily loves most and is very understanding of her daughter's odd hobbies and talents, as well as very respecting of her intelligence and nurturing of her genius. Patti never forces Emily to try to be somebody she's not, and in exchange Emily is very protective towards her, and Patti is the only person Emily will ever take orders from, to the extent that she's able to take orders, which of course is very little.
We also learn early on in this book that Raven is a new addition to their family who came into play shortly before the events of book 1, and we get to see how she's adopted into their family. Emily and Patti have to adjust to having her around and at times they outright attempt to give up, but Emily can't turn her back on Raven for whatever reason, and Patti is more than willing to protect Raven and make excuses for her when she does things people plainly shouldn't or wouldn't do. Raven is of course the Igor to Emily's Doc Frankenstein, but there's also a degree of her being a 'cool aunt' figure to Emily that they sometimes play up, and it's really fun when they do.
Obviously outside Emily's family and how they keep her grounded, we also learn more about her experiences and experiments, her work as a (mostly) mad scientist, and all she's accomplished over the years. We see what her normal routines are and what her everyday world typically looks like. Of course this eventually results in Emily cloning herself and having to cope with having another version of herself running around.
The book does really fun, interesting stuff with the 'there's two of us now!' trope, including have each of the Emilys view the other as the 'experiment gone wrong' at various times, and also have each of them doubt whether they're the clone or not. Patti, loving angel that she is, eventually accepts there's two versions of her daughter now and tries to raise them as twins (after she has a light nervous breakdown) but the girls are determined to outwit and outmatch each other, and it leads to a fantastically written game of cat and mouse including some minor plot twists that are always fun to see the foreshadowing to upon a reread.
I genuinely love this book, although between the first three books in this series all being so excellent, it's hard to pick a favorite or rank them in any way. They're all just that good. This one does scrap by to take the lead though, IMO. The fourth/final book is a bit rushed, but it's still a worthwhile journey to get there if you ask me. 5/5

In this second novel of the fantastic series of Emily the Strange, we are dealing with an even stranger situation than in the first one, as you could probably tell from the title of the book.
The chain of strange events begins when Emily is trying to make her invention - the Duplicator - work and she accidentally duplicates herself, and thus OtherMe is born. At first, the two girls are good friends, helping each other out, working together for their projects. Of course, Emily's mother doesn't want to accept the fact that her daughter has duplicated herself, so the existence of OtherMe is hidden - the two leave the room at turns. But, after a while, Emily is starting to realise that OtherMe has an evil personality and that there is a very strong possibility that she wants to get rid of her.
The story is, at times, very predictable. For instance, I pretty much figured out the fact that Emily and OtherMe are all just a half of the old Emily and can't be the REAL Emily if they don't figure out a way of reversing the duplication.
I know everyone is making the 13-points lists like Emily, but I can't help it: I have to make one of my own. Here is what I LIKED about the book:
1. The Catlish to English translator
2. Venus Fang Fang - a very interesting character, whom I came to like after I found out about her real identity
3. Great Aunt Millie - the family's ghost
4. The diary-style of the book
5. The photos and Emily's sketches
6. The fact that the book is unrealistic, which makes it interesting and entertaining
7. The CatCam photos
8. Emily's original way of swearing
9. What Emily finds as great names for bands (ex: Spy Diaper)
10. The pranks
11. The booby traps
12. Emily's four cats
13. How the two Emily's are trying to prove that they are the REAL Emily
Despite the fact that I am 18 years old now, I enjoy reading children literature from time to time, just so I can remember the happy days of my childhood. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone though, as it is a very strange one (as I previously stressed). But if you like reading books with original ideas, you have a good sense of humour and you still feel your heart is of a child, then go for it!

Lanţul de evenimente ciudate începe când Emily încearcă să-şi facă invenţia - Duplicatorul - să funcţioneze şi, din greşeală, se dublează, astfel luând naştere OtherMe (CealaltăEu). La început, cele două fete sunt bune prietene, ajutându-se reciproc, lucrând împreună pentru proiectele lor. Desigur, mama lui Emily nu vrea să accepte faptul că fiica ei şi-a creat o dublură, aşa că existenţa lui OtherMe e ascunsă - cele două părăsesc camera pe rând. Dar, după o vreme, Emily începe să îşi dea seama că OtherMe are o personalitate malefică şi că e o mare posibilitate ca OtherMe să încerce să scape de ea.
Povestea e, pe alocuri, foarte predictibilă. Spre exemplu, mi-am cam dat seama că Emily şi OtherMe sunt două jumătăţi ale vechei Emily şi că nu pot fi Emily cea ADEVĂRATĂ dacă nu găsesc o cale de a inversa duplicarea.
Ştiu că aproape toată lumea face liste cu 13 puncte ca Emily, dar nu mă pot abţine: trebuie să fac şi eu una. Iată ce MI-A PLĂCUT la carte:

Dar dacă vă place să citiţi cărţi cu idei originale, aveţi simţul umorului şi încă simţiţi că aveţi o inimă de copil, atunci încercaţi-o!

Ahoy there me mateys! This here be a combined review of the second and third books of the Emily the Strange series. While I try to post no spoilers, if ye haven’t read book one and ye keep reading this log then ye have been forewarned and continue at yer own peril . . .
Okay so back when I read book one I stated that “Emily is totally a kindred spirit for me and I am so glad I found her. I wish I would have found her sooner. This book is so funny and awesome. I knew it was for me just based on the cover.” Further reading only solidifies the point that Emily and I would be good friends if we both didn’t hate other people so much.
Book one was awesome and I loved the audiobook. Sadly I was not able to listen to these in audiobook format but I still loved them. While book one remains me favourite, book two was excellent because Emily accidentally duplicates herself. At first Emily thinks that having two of herself is great but slowly begins to question that belief. But how does she get rid of “OtherMe?” This book continues with the 13-bullet-point-lists, made up curse words, pranks, fabulous diary entries, and absolutely marvelous cats! Even though much of the plot was predictable, I just didn’t care. It made me happy. I love Emily’s change of heart concerning OtherMe and how mom handles the whole situation.
Book three was the weakest of the books so far but was silly fun nonetheless. In this one Emily is homeschooled by her mom. It involves time travel, meeting Emily’s ancestors, and epidemics, among other things. I love how Emily’s classes work out. I love Emily’s artwork. I enjoyed Emily’s shenanigans in the 1780s but too much of this book was Emily (and gang) waiting for things to happen. I wanted more of Emily taking charge. This book did, however, set up the last book in the series. I do need to know what happens next!
If ye haven’t met Emily and enjoy strange, quirky, and snarky characters then give this series a shot!

At first Emily thinks that having two of herself is great but slowly begins to question that belief. But how does she get rid of “OtherMe?” This book continues with the 13-bullet-point-lists, made up curse words, pranks, fabulous diary entries, and absolutely marvelous cats! Even though much of the plot was predictable, I just didn’t care. It made me happy. I love Emily’s change of heart concerning OtherMe and how mom handles the whole situation.
Book three was the weakest of the books so far but was silly fun nonetheless. In this one Emily is homeschooled by her mom. It involves time travel, meeting Emily’s ancestors, and epidemics, among other things. I love how Emily’s classes work out. I love Emily’s artwork. I enjoyed Emily’s shenanigans in the 1780s but too much of this book was Emily (and gang) waiting for things to happen. I wanted more of Emily taking charge. This book did, however, set up the last book in the series. I do need to know what happens next!
If ye haven’t met Emily and enjoy strange, quirky, and snarky characters then give this series a shot!

13 Things I enjoyed about Emily the Strange:
1. She says made up silly swears like "frabbing", "flamjars", "gobfarks", "flagbrakes, "varking hamdacks", "gabfrax", "grakking vertfarks", and "craphounds".
2. Every thing is in black, white and red. My fav colors!
3. She giggles at immature humor like the word "poopcake" (lol) and thought it was funny when her cat pooped outside of the litter box. "Sabbath thinks outside the box!!!" AHAHAHA!
4. Diary seems authentic with scribbles, doodles, drool stains, Polaroid pics, etc.
5. Emily is super smart, goofy, and happy despite her emo/goth look.
6. Everything seems like a mystery that needs to be solved which has me hooked to keep reading till I find out.
7. She totally knows how to draw/paint. Very creative.
8. Emily is good at lying, skateboarding, and guitar. Things I have attempted and sucked at.
9. She likes to make lists. So do I.
10. Her mom has to be a great mother to have a 49% evil daughter that always gets them into trouble so that they have to move all the time.
11. Raven, her golem, sounds wicked. Very jealous I don't have one.
12. Kitties.
13. Despite being 13, Emily is awesome and a total strangeball. Love it!

The third book of the four stories under Emily the Strange series, Stranger and Stranger is so far my favorite (I have not read the fourth one, yet). Starting off from Emily and her mom's attempt to pack all their things as they move to another town, her mischievous life was unraveled. As always, our characters room is filled with weird inventions and creatures, and it's getting harder for her to finish her duties. Eventually, we'll be introduced to one of her inventions which will accidentally double her. Yes, double her. A clone / duplicate / twin of her is a product of her invention. And the existence of her twin is the start of her adventure, or should I say, mischief.
It's kind of predictable on what the cloned Emily will bring to the story, but there's a different approach on how the cloned Emily will intervene in real Emily's life. This spice in the story helped it to be a page turner. You'll discover further the good side of Emily, which seemed to be inexistent because of how she does things in her life.
I like how Emily ruled her life, and solve her own problems. I enjoyed her quirkiness and wit.I promised myself that I won't be buying any YA books anymore, but with Emily's witty character, I broke that vow.

I love Emily the Strange books! They're STRANGE! I thought they were hilarious. I'm addicted to these books. I'm also totally digging the cover. I am always entertained and laughing out loud, when I read this series. And NO I'm NOT too old for this series either! Anyone in their right mind would read these books. All her little made up curse words (lists of 13) and conversations with people just crack me up. I felt sometimes the plot was a little predictable, but, it wasn't to the point were I was annoyed. I can't really think of anything that I disliked about this book, isn't that awesome?!

The plot was kinda slow, and a bit boring as the whole "evil twin" and "good twin" concept is old and overused. And I don't appreciate the use of the R slur in this one. There are other non-offensive words the author could've used. I'll close one eye though since this book is more than 10 years old. I do enjoy the humour in this and how cat owners, such as myself, can relate to Emily and her cats.

Es šo sēriju iesāku pagājušā gada oktobrī un tad izlasīju pirmo grāmatu. Paņēmu otro ar cerībām, ka varbūt būs labāk un interesantāk, bet tā īsti nebija. Protams, bija, manuprāt, labāk, jo spēlē parādījas otrā Emīlija. Kopumā šī grāmata nav slikta, bet nav arī "WOW!" Tomēr sērija ir iesākta, un tāpēc pabeigšu vienkārši, lai redzētu, kā tas viss beigsies.

It's been a while since I've finished this book so it's not really fresh in my mind as I finally get around to reviewing the book.
The Emily books are not amazing or awesome, but they aren't horrible. I really enjoy Emily as a character. The stories are just there and they are neither super interesting nor super boring. They are enough to hold your attention but I am not jumping out of my seat or recommending the books to anyone. I like Emily's language and her stories are always slightly outrageous and fun. I enjoy the illustrations that accompany the books as well.
I will admit I don't fully understand the ending of this book and how Emily solved the problem of the two Emilys. I did, however, like that most the time you weren't sure which Emily was telling the story. That was fun.
I don't have much else to say since it's been a while :-p

In my opinion this was a lot better than the first Emily the Strange book, "The Lost Days". In both books, it's really fun to read about a protagonist who's completely unrealistic and deliciously evil, but the plot of this second novel was more enjoyable to me. Emily gets split into two people and the first part of the story is told by one half of her, the second part by the other. Seeing the story from these two perspectives was very interesting and it made you realise how easy it is to accept one vision of reality.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one was a bit of a letdown. I found it very boring at the beginning - it took forever for anything at all to happen. When the mystery finally got going, I was intrigued, but then the whole thing fell a bit flat again. Bummer. Still, I like the illustrations and the diary format. Maybe the third one will be better.

I read this one after book 3, which meant that the chronology was slightly botched in my head; however, I enjoyed this book as much as the others. Emily is quirky enough to make anything sound like fun-even when it goes wrong!

I liked Emily better when she had amnesia, so this book was harder for me to get into. About halfway through, though, it really started to pick up. Quite ridiculous and funny.

This book was possibly weirder than the first. I didn't like it as much. The first had a mystery to solve that kept me interested. This one rambled a lot.

Jotenkin ei vain niin hyvä kuin ensimmäinen osa ja ongelma lienee ollut se, että ensimmäinen kirja oli synkän hauskaa ja hirtteistä huumoria lukea. Tämä toinen lähinnä ei ollut. Ensimmäinen kirja oli tavallaan goottihuumorin ja outouden manifesti. Jatko-osa tuntui jotenkin, että sillä on kovat puitteeet todistella teiniangstia ja lähinnä pelkkiä kepposia, sekä juoksua aikaa vastaan siinä kumpi pysäyttää toisen ensiksi.
Yhdessä kohtaa jäi mietityttämään, kun Emilyn kaksi puolta olivat liitettyinä, ne yhdenäkkiä eivät tavallaan enään olleetkaan yhdessä ja sitten taas kuitenkin olivat. Pakostakin miettii, että tekikö kääntäjä mokan, vai olikohan se alkuperäisessä versiossakin yhtä epäselvää.
Periaatteessa ihan kiva, mutta periaatteessa taas.... aika meh. Juonellisesti aivan varmasti Emily The Strangeä, mutta jotain olleellista jäi siltikin puuttumaan mikä teki ensimmäisestä kirjasta niin hyvän. Ehkä tämä yritti aivan liikaa. Tähän olisi oikeasti tarvittu mustaa huumoria. Ja siinä erehdytte, jos luulette ettei goottiuteen kuulu mustaakin mustempi huumorintaju. Sehän se juuri on sen jutun punainen lanka sysimustuuden keskellä.

Wow! Una gran decepción!! El cómic de Emily siempre se me hizo muy bueno y creí que la novelita sería igual o mejor. Error! Desde antes de llegar a la mitad del libro, mi interés fue declinando y no porque fuera extraño o raro, como es "normal" en el mundo de Emily sino más bien aburrido y repetitivo.
Después del gran éxito al crear un Golem-zombie- sirvienta llamada Raven, ahora Emily se muda de casa y decide dar el gran paso dentro de sus metas científicas al crear una máquina duplicadora de seres vivos u orgánicos. Claro que ella misma se duplica pero su doble quiere eliminarla y comienza una serie de situaciones raras que la hacen dudar de las intenciones aparentemente buenas de su otra Yo. Entre otras situaciones de relleno como la mudanza, conflictos con vecinos y amistad con otros chicos del vecindario y su pierna enyesada y uno de sus gatos que se pierde, la historia es aburrida y se pierde el interés fácilmente. El cómic sigue siendo la mejor opción para disfrutar a Emily The Strange.

I liked the first book in the series so naturally I continued to the second, but it was a disappointment. This book is also completely skippable, as it doesn't really connect to the rest of the story, so I'll suggest you just do so.
It starts quite boringly with her moving to a new city, then she talks about things she plans to do or make, then when the second Emily appears it just gets worse. It seemed pretty obvious to me how they were different and where things were going, nearly from the start, but our protagonist took the whole rest of the book to figure it out.
Very annoying the number of times she says how something might be good as a band name. The only thing I liked was the introduction of great aunt Milly, there wasn't even much cat interactions as they apparently didn't like the experiment.

Emily es una preadolescente muy oscura y gótica que disfruta hacer travesuras épicas en cada ciudad a la que se muda, algo que sucede más seguido de lo normal. Cuando llegan a su nuevo destino, uno de sus extraños artefactos provoca que se haga una copia exacta de ella, esto será un gran problema para toda la ciudad
Esta es la segunda parte de esta saga de novelas ilustrada del personaje, la primera la leí hace muchos años y recuerdo haberla disfrutado mucho, pero con esta me costó un poco más. Creo que uno de los problemas fue la traducción al español de España, algo que me dificultó la lectura. También posee un inicio un poco lento a comparación del primer libro.
También creo que condiciona la lectura el hecho de que esté narrado en formato de diario en primera persona hace que el foco sea muy reducido y todo lo que leemos sea desde el punto de vista de Emily.

The accidental self-duplication and the chaos that follows (i.e. your evil twin wanting to corrupt the world and murder you) would have been thoroughly fun if it wasn't sprinkled with the Asian accent mockery, which I assume to be Chinese. I'm giving it a liiiitle bit of leeway since this was published in 2005 when casual racism was considered normal, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth.
Emily's mum is nice though. She's chill, level-headed, and wise enough to deal with Emily's crazy hijinks—with occasional mental breakdowns when it gets too much.
