This was the first book in a series of three novels written in the pulp style and tradition and set in the late 1930s. They later did sequential art versions, too. It was published by TSR, but I don't think it was based on a specific game but was a part of something called the TSR Top Secret/SI setting. The story was over the top in throwing in every pulp trope they could think of, spies and Nazis and secret societies and ancient knowledge and lost civilizations, etc. The main character is not named; he's just Agent 13. It was fun until the end, where instead of an ending they just had a page with a list of some of the questions that had gone unanswered and a directive to buy book #2, which I decided against. I did really like the Jeff Butler cover art, though.
Flint Dille’s first book in the trilogy about Agent 13, a pulp hero and one man army continuing his lifelong war against his arch nemesis, the evil Brotherhood. If you enjoy the pulps along the lines of Doc Savage, The Spider, and The Shadow, you will get a kick out of The Invisible Empire. Can’t wait to read the second book in the series.
This was an extremely silly book that I still enjoyed. It is written in the style of a 1930 pulp fiction novel and not surprisingly set in that time frame.
It did interest me enough to maybe look for the next book in the series to see what happens next.
This is not my typical read but found it in a box of my dad's books and thought I'd give it a go. I don't actually know how I feel about it. Throughout the read I was like, "Is this really stupid or is it awesome?" I really can't decide so I'm going to lean towards "awesome."
It does kind of remind me of Saturday morning cartoons (Justice League, Johnny Quest) or my imagination of old radio programs for kids. The Rocketeer or Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.. It's got that feel to it.
Impressive modern writing of a pulp style character. This is the 1st book of Agent 13 a man against the world. He has left the secretive organization called the brotherhood to fight against their world dominating plans. Using skills he learned while being trained as their assassin he travels the world battling their plans. Very recommended.
This book had it all when it comes to old pulps. Thugs, Nazis, lightning guns, beautiful women, a femme fatale, gangsters, and the mysterious Agent 13.
