The three short stories in this book all have to do with sailors. And I'm not talking about US Navy type sailors, I'm talking about merchant seamen, and sailors who work for a living on a cruise ship. Apparently the author, who works in the international shipping industry, has made a lot of friends who are sailors, and they've told her some stories. So this book is loosely based on the stories these guys (and girls) have told her. One other thing to point out is these stories have a very 1960s/1970s feel to them, complete with the attitudes about sex at that time, and the language used. The author doesn't come right out and say that, but once you read it you'll feel the time warp.

In Cruise Ship Charlie, Charlie's a good looking Australian guy working on a cruise ship as a 'third assistant engineer', as he often likes to point out. (He takes offense to being called a 'sailor'). He spots a beautiful woman in a bikini one day while cruising on deck, and gets his gay friend the bartender (who is more like his pimp and who also lusts after Charlie)) to set him up with her. The gorgeous woman is eager to meet him too (she's had her eye on him), and since fraternizing with the passengers is grounds for dismissal, this is all done on the q-t. Petula is a very successful fashion designer, she's bored while cruising between England and Australia, and is looking for some fun. Well she finds that and more with Charlie. Sexual escapades ensue, hookups are made between her staff and Charlie's friends, and a good time is had by all, including one big happy orgy scene in Charlie's cabin.

There's lots of crude language (in Aussie and British slang) and actions, so be warned if that's not your thing. I kept waiting for something to happen in this story and it never did. For all his wild ways Charlie sure worried a lot about getting caught and losing his job, but it seemed he couldn't resist the free and easy Petula and her employee (and sometime girlfriend) Jennifer. I felt absolutely no romance between the two of them. Seems like they were just using each other to pass the time. It also didn't help that this story was told entirely from the man's point of view--it might have helped (a little) if I knew what Pet was thinking. 2 stars.
Warning: This story contains explicit sex and crude language, f/f/m menage action, and an orgy scene. Not for the faint of heart.

The next story, Southern Seaman, was also told from the male p.o.v., but was a little better. At least it had a likeable hero in Buck. Buck's a young, inexperienced sailor from Savannah, Georgia, and his ship has docked in Marseilles, France for repairs. He and his two older, more experienced buddies are looking for a good time while in port, and they want to take Buck some place exciting. They decide to visit two of their favorite places, a cabaret strip club and a brothel. Buck's a little nervous about going to these places, because he's just a shy southern boy and not all that lucky with the ladies. Well, apparently he's misjudged his effect on women, because he catches the eye of the beautiful waitress Giselle at the club. They hit it off and she takes him to a back room at the club and...let's just say that Buck leaves happy and is eager to see her again. But before that can happen his buddies insist he come with them to the brothel. Buck's got Giselle on the brain until he meets prostitute Simone. She teaches him a trick or two and he's eager to share his new found knowledge with Giselle the next day. Shy and unsure Buck finds his confidence with Giselle, and boldly asks her if she would consider a threesome with Simone. Of course she agrees, they have a grand old time, but Buck realizes he's developing feelings for Giselle, as she is for him. Buck's due to sail in a few days; Giselle is unhappy, and so is Buck. May a romance be blossoming?

I liked this one a little better because Buck was such a sweet guy. He had to put up with a lot of teasing from his older and more experienced buddies, but he held his own. I thought down deep he was a pretty good guy and a gentleman. And I thought he had some real feelings for Giselle. But something he said towards the end of the story made me doubt him, and it sort of ruined the story for me a bit. 3 stars.
Warning: This story contains explicit sex and language, some spanking, and a f/f/m menage scene. Not for the faint of heart.

And finally, the best of the bunch, Merchant Maureen. Maureen's a young, Irish American, experienced sailor from Massachusetts, working on a merchant marine vessel crossing the Atlantic. Her late father was a Captain of his own ship, but tragically died at sea. Maureen's been around ships and sailing all her life, and knows this is the career for her. Although it's rare for a sailor to be female, her father's friend offers her a job on his ship. Things get off to a shaky start when she butts head with her boss and the ship's Chief Mate, sexy Englishman and uber alpha Roger Trent. He doesn't like the idea of a female on board, and lets her know it. But it doesn't take long for Maureen to show Roger that she knows her job, and can do it well. The two argue and fight like cats and dogs, but neither can deny the sexual tension between them. And even though they have the old love/hate thing going on, they soon succumb to their feelings and spend some wild times together. It seems they may just be made for each other. But Roger's studying for his Master's license, with an eye on becoming a Captain of his own ship, and will be leaving Maureen and the ship soon. Will this be just a workplace romance, or is something more meaningful developing?

I really liked this one, and maybe because finally we get the female p.o.v. I liked Maureen and Roger together--they had some really hot chemistry and lots of witty dialogue. The whole woman-in-a-man's-world storyline appealed to me also. And while the language and actions were sometimes crude, it didn't bother me much, because I felt it fit the story. I would have liked to seen this one expanded to a full size book, because I think there was a lot more to tell between Maureen and Roger. However, for a short story it was fast paced and very well done. 4 stars.
Warning: This story contains explicit sex and language, including oral and anal, and some spanking. Not for the faint of heart.

So, one very good story and two that were just 'meh' for me. I've read a few of P.F. Kozak's full length novels and enjoyed them a lot, so I'm not ready to give up on this author yet. This one didn't quite do it for me (no pun intended), but Merchant Maureen gave me hope that there's more good stories coming from P.F. Kozak. Overall 3 stars.

What i really enjoy about these stories is the camaraderie between characters, it's grrrreat! I also am enjoying the perspective coming from a man's point of view were as most romantic or erotica come via a woman's. Even though the last story is a woman's, I still like them. It's different & I actually liked it better than some of the other stories I've read.

I really enjoyed "Cruise Ship Charlie"! Rating it a 4. Story #2 "Southern Seaman" rated a 3-3.5. "Merchant Maureen" was just as good if not better than "Cruise Ship Charlie". I give it a 4-4.5 rating.

I enjoyed Cruise Ship Charlie the best, but they were all good for short stories.

Cruise Ship Charlie – Charlie is an engineer on a cruise ship and he gets lucky.

Southern Seaman – Buck gets lucky in Marseilles when he visits a stip joint and a whorehouse.

Merchant Maureen – Maureen meets her mate when she joins a ship as an Able Seaman
