Vickie Taylor wrote her first novel in 1997. Upon completion, she was too chicken to give the manuscript to anyone she knew to read, so she sent her baby off to a few contests to get some anonymous feedback instead. Little did she know how her life was about to change: a few months later, she had won all four of the Romance Writers of America chapter contests she’d entered, was a Golden Heart finalist and had sold the book to Silhouette Intimate Moments!

Since then, Vickie has written numerous romantic suspense novels for Silhouette Books and Berkley Sensation, garnering such recognition as the Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence in Romantic Suspense, a four-and-a-half star “Top Pick” review in Romantic Times, and a coveted RWA Rita nomination for her work.

In 2006, Vickie continued her acclaimed paranormal series featuring Les Gargouillen (the Gargoyles) with FLESH AND STONE, the sequel to the smashing debut CARVED IN STONE. The third book in the series, LEGACY OF STONE, is now on bookstore shelves everywhere.

Vickie lives in a small town in north Texas dubbed “The Heart of Horse Country” where she rounds out her writing days raising horses, volunteering with the local Humane Society, and serving on a K-9 search and rescue team

Okay so maybe 3 1/2 stars. For my taste the villian got way to much print time. I was glad at his outcome however. I really liked Levi and Tasha, especially Tasha she was one tough gal but in a good way. I guess my over all rating on the series is a 3 1/2, good but not great.

Best book to date in the Les Gargouillen series. Look forward to Book 4. Hope we won't have to wait as long as we did for Book 3. ;)

I don't remember how/why I picked up this book but I knew it was a series right off. I just wish I'd waited to get the first two books before reading this one. I was still able to follow the plot with no problem, but it's obvious some side characters would've been better explained if I'd read their stories first.
I was really confused off the bat when Levi shifted for the first time and it wasn't into the traditional idea of a gargoyle. Luckily that's explained well enough. Levi is a smart, sexy, able-bodied guy, but for the first time I read some Too Stupid To Live Hero moments. True he was being manipulated to some degree, but his character didn't seem like the type to allow another man to control him as much as Levi allowed Roman to do. Just getting off the ship for a day was such an ordeal, the Levi I'd gotten to know by that point would have told Roman's goons to fuck off. So when Levi didn't it hurt my opinion of him.
I really did like Tasha's character because she was strong and no-nonsense when all the weird stuff started happening. What I didn't like was how her powers weren't revealed or used until the very end of the book. It made no sense to me. She had been trying to get Levi to listen to her, and I think telling him of her power early on would have gone a long way.
Overall, decent paranormal book with some hot sex but not too much and not overly graphic. A decent romance thrown in but some "duh" moments from the main characters.

I was rather disappointed in this book. I absolutely loved the first two in the series but this was a real let down. I didn't like any of the main characters and found it difficult to connect with any of them. Levi Tremaine is a sea-serpent shifter (yuk). Captain Natasha Cole is hiding something from Levi and holds herself back as well. And don't even get me started on sleaze ball Roman DuValle! Rachel and Nathan Cross as well as Connor Rihyad and Teryn appear about halfway through the book and liven it up some but still not enough to warrant 4 stars.

There is a war on between the gargoyles who want to continue to protect humans as they were made to do and the gargoyles who want world dominion (like Roman DuValle). They are descended from gargoyles but they do not shift into gargoyles themselves. They take many forms and i don't mean cats and wolves either. (horned birds, bird-bear hybrids, pigs, flying rats and all kinds of unnameables). These are not shifters any lady would want to sleep with. yuk! Even Levi is a giant sea serpent along the lines of the Loch Ness monster. yikes imagine taking a shower/bath with him and getting the surprise of your life. The series obviously continues but I'm not so sure I will be continuing as it's really going in a different direction which really isn't very interesting.

I must have been reading too many ebooks lately(this is the first print book I've read in more than a month), because about two thirds of the way through the 278 pages of story I had to take a break when my brain suddenly asked 'how much longer can this go on?'
Other than that, which isn't the books fault, I enjoyed the story.
It's the third book in a trilogy and you do have to read them in order. Each book has a separate couple getting their own HEA, but the surrounding story about their situations and actions, the battle between the good Gargoyles and the evil against them, it carries from book to book. In Legacy of Stone there are lies told by the evil one to our hero about events and knowledge from books one and two, that if you haven't read the books, may confuse the story for you.
The story is definitely as much about the battle between the good guys and the evil Romanus as about the romance between Levi and Tasha, who had already known each other for two years at the start of this book. The situation they find themselves in helps make them realize their 'friends with benefits' is much more than that. There is not a lot of sex scenes in the book, and those that are there are more the 'behind closed doors' type.

And I've realized while writing this(my first written review ever)that I suck at writing good reviews. :)

I would say 1.5 stars, but I'm rounding it to 2 stars because I feel generous.

Anyway, I skimmed through the book and so glad that I did. This was the first of the series that I've read, so the premise of reincarnation and shape-shifters of this particular brand was already established. Though interesting and confusing at the same time, I just didn't like how it all shaped up. Just...not my thing. And this pertains to the overall plot of the series.

Another thing I don't like is the hero. I actually liked the spunky heroine, but the hero, not so much at all. I gave him some leeway, but I still felt frustrated over him as the story went towards the end. So it really didn't endeared me to the book and the whole series.

And the antagonist. Didn't like him at all. So I rather not read more about him, too. That said, there were some nice secondary characters, but that's not enough for me to like the book.

Will I continue reading more of this particular series? Nope.

Will I pick up another book from this author? Not really sure. Who knows.

Will I recommend this book? Nope.

Overall, the book had some nice moments, but the moments that brought negative emotions within me far outweighted the former.

I stopped reading on page 82. I just could not get into this book. I hated the multiple points of view. (I don't ever want to know the villain’s POV.) The story involves a sea serpent shape shifter and his boat sinking in a storm which was caused by the villain shape shifter. The sea serpent has a love interest and a long lost sister he knows nothing about.

Interesting premise, I just didn't feel it. Rather annoyed that it took the main character so long to realize that he was with the bad guy.
