When Asher "Mouse" Whitman's daughter disappears from the park he assumes the strange woman he spots her with is the culprit. Instead he learns she saved Lolly's life. Now all he wants to do is protect her and chase away the fear in her eyes. Convincing Phoebe to give him a chance won't be easy especially with her abusive ex still sniffing around.

Jane continues to amaze me. UPDATE:

I have read many, many books by Jane Blythe and have never been disappointed, so adding Lethal Risk to that list was a no brainer. Chock full of romance and danger, I especially loved the addition of Lolly to the mix. I love how the tension and pacing are off and running from the beginning pages. Jane Blythe’s writing fits me so well, I zip through the pages on pins and needles, stopping for some romance now and then. After all, gotta smell those roses, right?

Jane Blythe has the ability to make me believe the characters are real, with her vivid, true to life descriptions. I guess that is why she is able to draw all the feels from me. I fear for the characters, laugh with the characters and they linger long after the book is finished. She approaches each novel with a fresh outlook, often avoiding the pitfalls of romantic suspense.

We begin with the attempted abduction of Asher’s (Mouse’s) daughter, Lolly. Could this have something to do with the organization that Storm Gallagher belonged to? Just because he is no longer a threat, it doesn’t mean there isn’t a bigger plan in motion.

Mouse had only taken his eyes off his daughter for a few seconds. There are people all around, but when he looks for her, she is nowhere to be seen. I think every parent can imagine his panic and desperation. When he sees Lolly with Phoebe Lynch, he doesn’t hesitate to take her down…and their story begins.

Phoebe feels she is being watched and Mouse, along with Prey Security are at her side. No one had any idea of who her psychopathic ex boyfriend really was, but as they learn more about it, the danger rises. His obsession makes Phoebe realize he will do anything to get her back, to make her into the person he believes she should be…for him. The only way out…death.

It’s a small world, and as everything comes together, the romance begins. And Lolly…sweet, precious Lolly. I looked forward to her dialogue that put a smile on my face. Her capacity for love is as big as her personality.

“Did you have someone to hold at night?” Lolly asked.

“No, sweetie.” Lolly’s brow furrowed. “I don’t want you to be alone. Come to my room.” Lolly jumped to her feet, took Phoebe’s hand, and pulled her along after her.

“I brought Baby Kitty,” she told Asher (Mouse), pulling the stuffed animal from her bag. Lolly had insisted that since she had Mrs. Fuzzy to keep her safe at night, Phoebe had to take Baby Kitty home with her to cuddle in bed.

Damn, this woman can write. She still surprises me, when I think it is no longer possible to surprise me, because I have read so many of her books. Her words and her characters speak to me, making a home in my heart. Her stories feel so real…and she has already set the hook for the next book in the series.

Oh man, it’s a cliffhanger, but the next book is available, so, thank you Jane, no waiting.

🧁💕Is she freaking serious rn? Did she really think someone's spying on her with their kid?! Moreover your cousin/best friend works with them. AND they're the one who literally doing everything they can to protect your sorry ass. All this because she found a photo on Asher's table of someone who's connected to her ex. This doesn't make any sense.
🧁💕Ok now the whole team gonna traumatized an abused women with their interrogation just because she might have information. Their first meeting was Asher hitting Phoebe because he thought she's kidnapping his daughter. They still didn't gain her trust and now this. No I Don't get their point. If you suspected something thn go talk to her first or go alone to interrogate. The whole angry squad showing up on a traumatize women's door doesn't make sense. Anything more and I'm gonna give up on this book.
🧁💕At this point I don't want them to end up together. There's too much.
🧁💕Yeah bye.

Lethal Risk

OMG! Another FANTASTIC story by Jane! I literally didn't want to put this book down. This story is about Asher, Phoebe and Lolly. First of all, Lolly is totally adorable and very smart and brave for a seven year old. This little girl has been through so much in her young life. Then there is Phoebe, she has been through he'll herself. Asher is the rock that keeps them together or at least in the end he has to fight his fear of losing both of his girls. This story was very intense right from the beginning of the story and it was very intense towards the end as well. The best gift Asher got for his girls was so sweet to say the least. FANTASTIC job Jane! I would highly recommend this book! Can't wait for the next book!

2.5* It was good, but really didn’t like parts of it.

Phoebe is out jogging when she sees two men trying to kidnap a young child. She manages to free the little girl, who is Asher’s/Mouse’s daughter. When Asher thinks that Phoebe is the kidnapper, he shoves her on the ground, banging her head really badly and restrains her. Then he finds out that she’s a hero and says sorry. Oh well that’s okay then!!! Phoebe who has escaped from an abusive relationship is traumatised by it.

When Asher (Who’s a single dad.) realises that he’s really like to know Phoebe she’s really not interested. As she’s terrified of him by that point. I don’t frigging blame her. He didn’t see her dragging his daughter to a car, he jumped to a conclusion about what she was doing. It just didn’t sit well with me. He jumps to another conclusion later in the book and terrifies her again!!!

When Phoebe’s ex ramps up the stalking and harassment, her cousin (Who is Falcon’s fiancé.) gets Prey involved to protect her. When I say protects her, they issue a threat to the ex and that’s it. They think it’s over. 🤔 I’m sure they’re supposed to be super soldiers. So of course it isn’t and Phoebe is still in danger. The terrorist plot continues and they are working to find out who is behind it. (?) Not sure how as they don’t seem to ever do anything.

It was okay. I think the problem is that I didn’t like Asher. He came across as a bit psychotic. The way that he jumped to mad theories about Phoebe and was willing to hurt her, even after they had got together. Yet he introduced her to his daughter really really fast. Even though he didn’t really know her. Really bizarre.

WOW!!! These beautifully stunning reads by Jane Blythe just keep getting better and better!!

The world of Prey Security is just so powerfully addictive it draws you in and takes you on what seems like the wildest ride of your life.

I am so very glad that Jane Blythe allowed us back into this engrossing world by honouring us with this linked series of Alpha Team. After reading Bear and MacKenzie’s story I was bowled over that Jane’s talent never dwindles, not even for a second. And this story of Asher and Phoebe is no different. Jane gives nothing less than 110% with every word and nuance.

Asher is a beautiful character. A man with no end of gentleness and love for his daughter, but also a man who can, without hesitation bring the world crumbling down in order to save the innocent from the evil that lives.

I loved the emotions Jane portrayed from Asher’s point of view in respect of being a widow and being a single parent. The support he has had from his parents and his brothers-in-arms has been steadfast and solid.
Watching the way he acted instinctively for his daughters safety was heartfelt and admirable. But his instant reaction when he’d realised his mistake showed what a truly beautiful man he is. His character pure and without question.

Phoebe is such a strong character. She has been through so much pain, both physical and mental but she’s still standing, she still got up each morning, however hard it was and faced what had been her life until she saw her chance and escaped. Often we don’t see our own inner strength because we often find it near impossible not to find ourselves at fault and Jane captures this emotion and fallout from abuse perfectly.

If anyone deserves to find her happy ever after it is, without a single doubt, this woman.
Watching understanding dawn that she is strong, she is a survivor and she can grasp for the love she deserves was awe inspiring.

Asher and Phoebe, despite the rocky start are a perfect match. They complete each other in a way that gives us all hope that we too are deserving of love and acceptance so pure it shines brighter than the sun.

This is a truly beautiful read. Stunning in its entirety. I cannot recommend this book or the Prey Security world highly enough.

There are not enough stars in the sky to fully portray how utterly fantastic this book is.

I can't think of even one thing that could make Lethal Risk even better than it is. Two stellar lead characters, an adorably precocious seven year old, breathtaking drama, hard hitting action, intrigue and loads of suspense plus a wonderful romance. What more do you need? We get closer to finding out who the masterminds of the plans to take down the government are but there's certainly much more to discover. There's a partial HEA but Ms Blythe leaves us with a cliffhanger. Darn her anway!

Asher "Mouse" Whitman is one helluva Prey operator but first and formost he's a dad to a seven year old bundle of energy, joy and love. The day that Phoebe Lynch thwarts his daughter's kidnapping is a major turning point in Asher's life. He suddenly finds that he may be ready to love again and his sights may be set on Phoebe. Unfortunately, she has neither the want, need nor desire to become involved with any man now and possibly never. Her last relationship was abusive physically, mentally and emotionally. The sheer embarrassment of allowing that to happen to her might not be something she can overcome. What she doesn't plan on is Asher or Lolly. They fill the gaping holes left by her cruel ex. Now that's not to say that it's all smooth sailing...it's anything but. When she and Lolly are taken, Phoebe knows deep down there probably won't be a happy ending but that doesn't stop her from fighting with everything that's in her to save this precious child she's come to love. Ultimately things go the right way and just when Asher, Phoebe and Lolly start down their HEA path the unthinkable happens. Stay tuned cuz things are about to get ugly.

Classically abused Phoebe Lynch fled that life for her east coast cousin and let them assume it wasn’t a serious problem. Jumping at noises and afraid to trust anyone, Phoebe found strength when she saw a little girl with fear in her eyes being marched from the park between armed men. She couldn’t help herself and used the little self defense she knew to help.

The grateful little girl, Lolly, cries as she hugs Phoebe for saving her when her widowed father, Prey operator Asher ‘Mouse’ Whitman didn’t want to hear what anyone had to say as he slammed the woman to the ground. But Mouse’s 7-year old blatantly blurts the truth. Though attracted to each other, Phoebe’s too damaged to give Mouse a chance.

Mouse keeps trying with Phoebe as her ex comes to tow and is caught abusing her. Mouse and the team get her out of that situation but the future is cloudy as it seems. However innocently, Phoebe is mixed up with an old and lethal enemy.

Phoebe meets Mouse, a member of Alpha team when she rescues his daughter Lolly from being kidnapped in a park when she gets split from her dad during a school trip. Things are off to a rocky start when Mouse and his team, who have been frantically looking for her, find her hugging a stranger and subdue and restrain her in an act first, ask questions later manner (Phoebe is much more understanding than I would've been). Given that Phoebe was previously in an abusive relationship and currently being stalked by the same man, this doesn't bode well for Mouse, who instantly feels a connection to her - the first since his wife passed 7 years ago - and realises he has to earn her trust if he wants to be in her life. The development between the two characters is great, as well as the relationship between Phoebe and Lolly. There is a bit of miscommunication, however, it does further the plot and is resolved in a mature and quick manner, it isn't dragged out.

Family

Mouse/Asher and Phoebe. We met mouse several books ago when he helped rescue some significant others in the Prey family and was wounded. We also learned about his daughter Lilly in several books. Phoebe was also introduced in Hope’s book, but this is the first time Mouse and Phoebe have met. Phoebe rescues Lolly from a kidnapping attempt and the team reacts quickly until Lolly tells them Phoebe is the hero! From there Mouse quickly realizes this woman is special and seeks out ways to spend time with her, as does Lolly! The scenes between Lolly and Phoebe are adorable and the moments between Phoebe and Hopes husband Falcon precious and heartwarming. The story has a lot of violence and domestic violence threads, but also connects to the previous story with Storm and how there is a power that was behind Storm. The ending was graphic and the cliffhanger concerning, but brilliantly done because I can’t wait to jump into the next book!

Mouse and Phoebe's story was amazing. I absolutely found this book to be incredible. Mouse is a single father to Lolly who is quite adorable. Phoebe is Hope's cousin and is running from her abusive ex. She tries to keep Hope safe and Prey away from her ex. But Prey finds out and will do anything to keep her and Lolly safe. This is a story about a woman who is physically and emotionally abused and her finding the strength to overcome her issues. With the help of Mouse, Prey and Lolly, she is able to do that. But the road to that, it's emotional, it had a lot of ups and downs and twists and turns. Jane Blythe does give us a lot of suspense and the ending is not what I expected. As usual, this book is a page turner and keeps me on the edge of my seat! I can't wait for the next book!

An intense read with action, suspense, danger, and an adorable little girl. Lolly just made the story, she was precious. Though some of the team's actions were heavy-handed, knowing what Asher's team (mainly Bear had already endured from the previous book) you could see the reasoning behind their behavior and understand them to an extent. Phoebe's fear and wariness were also understandable under the circumstances. Both she and Asher had some work to do to completely trust each other and it was great seeing the two of them get to know each other and work towards a loving relationship. From the tragedy Asher had already suffered with the loss of his wife and raising his young daughter alone and then the abuse and fear Phoebe endured, it was wonderful to see them work everything out. Asher and Phoebe were a cute couple and with the three of them together, they made a sweet family unit.

I weren’t gonna write a review but then I remembered why this book reminded me so much about another shitty hero… it’s almost the same plot and it’s the same author…
This author seems to have a thing for heroes that hurt physically the heroines and make the heroines justify the agressions… because “he apologized and my ex never did”
No grovel and not sorry because “I did what I needed to do for the safety of my people”, of course the heroines justified that! Even her cousin calls her out about how she was still defending him… pathetic

This security firm heroes are awful and not even alphas…

Wow, this was excellent. Emotional, action packed and romantic.
Phoebe is running from her abusive ex, after being misjudged, she gets help from Asher from Prey Security when her ex catches up with her.
This is a fast paced read that really grabs on and doesn't let go. Looking out for her, Asher really goes into protective mode and their chemistry and attraction drives this story forward.
I loved these two. The dynamic between Asher and his team is very much all for one and that is a really enjoyable part of the story.
Jane Blythe knows how to write a compelling and involving story and I can't wait for more. Great work!!

Oh My Gosh what a great well written story. It’s rare when you find an author who can make you feel all the emotions with just words you read. But this series does that and this book had me angry laughing out loud and crying . Lolly was so so adorable that I could actually picture her and the love Asher had for his daughter was felt from page 1. The heartache from Phoebe and the indecision of trusting her heart made me so sad for her . I can’t wait for the next book in this series and just from the blurb I’m afraid I’m going to need my box of puff plus. Well done Ms.Blythe well done again.

Very good

Mouse is a single dad to Lolly. He is also on the Alpha Team for Prey. Lolly has disappeared and he can't find her.
Phoebe has come to be near her cousin Hope and her husband Falcon to get away from her abusive ex. She sees a little girl in trouble jumps in the middle to save her.
Mouse really likes Phoebe as does his daughter but she is very gun shy. It doesn't help that her ex has shown up.
Just when Mouse and Phoebe are starting their relationship, Phoebe and Lolly are taken again. Will Asher and his team find Phoebe and Lolly?

This was a fantastic addition to this series and I loved it even more than the first.
If you thought DR was packed full of drama and action, just wait till you read this one.
Mouse's daughter with her sass made this book even more special. Not only that but I can see the female main character inspiring many readers.
Will the Alpha team manage to save the girls or will they be too late for one, if not both?
I highly urge you to one click, but in the mean I'm running to book #3 as that ending has my jaw dropping.

3 1/2*

Okay, this story was better written than the first. What a ride Phoebe goes through, but she’s fortunate to have made it into Asher’s world. She protects his daughter Lilly from a kidnapping attempt and the ride just gets crazier from there.

Again, there was too much repetitive “inside my head” thinking by the characters. And boy does this author like to torture her characters.

Last chapter was not how I expected this book to end — and I’m not sure how I felt about it! But on to the next!

Book 2. Could do with some editing but you can still get into the story. It’s a quick read and i am liking that about this series, no dragging it out.

Action/Mission 3 stars - maybe a little too convenient. Hunky Team members - definite 4 stars. Romance between Asher and Phoebe 3 1/2 to 4 stars. While I liked the storyline and I think Mouse and Phoebe are good together, even with the too convenient parts, I think I loved Lolly the best :)

Love this series!

I like the way this series is formatted, where it shows the date and time of each chapter. I don't think Ive seen a story done like this before. The only complaint i have (if you even want to call it that) is that there were some parts that were a little repetitive. But I love this team, these characters, the suspense and action.. I could continue. It was hard to put down. The first book was too. 10/10 would recommend! Jane Blythe is amazing!

So good!

Phones has sworn of men but finds herself drawn to a man even though she doesn't trust him. Mouse finds himself attracted to a woman after a long time focusing only on his career and his daughter whose Mom died. Phones has secrets that are revealed though she didn't want anyone to know. From there, everyone they love is endangered. I read this in one sitting unable to put it down. Enjoy!

2 🌶

This was an okay story. I would say the writing style is simple. I don't know how else to explain it. Anyway, I had to turn my brain off because much of the story was just a bit too unbelievable/ not realistic. I also didn't realize this was a series and not really a stand alone. Do I plan on reading the next book, more than likely not. I know the next book is about another member on the Alpha team for Prey, but this book did end on a sort of cliffhanger and it's a HFN.

Incredible

I loved this book for so many reasons. I'm a survivor of DV and it was beautiful to watch Pheobe take back her power. I was so angry at Mouse and his team, but like Pheobe, I could also understand. I was relieved to watch them push through and build a stronger foundation than before. Amazing book.

I got slightly further than NotTheTea, whose review concisely summarizes my own issues with this book. My DNF moment was when the FMC, who’s just been wonders if the MMC will hate her for what happened. Seriously?! She was just TSTL for my taste.
