This book of fifteen essays, published in 1934, aims to identify the elements that characterize Puerto Rican collective culture and sociology. The book has five chapters, with three essays per chapter. The author states in his first chapter that he does not aspire to solve any problem but to raise it. This writing takes place in Puerto Rico before the ‘baptism of the colony (1952) and is intended for the university youth of Puerto Rico. The word ‘Insularism’ has a dual meaning: 1) the reality of living in a place surrounded by water on all sides and geographically separated from other people or societies, and 2) the mentality of feeling separated as a person. This book guides and offers the reader the necessary processes to understand the historical, sociocultural, and economic dilemma that Puerto Rico has gone through. I give it four stars out of five.

I think it is a good book if you're doing a research, studying history to be a teacher or for some cultural background and advice.
