Twelve years have passed since Jahrra arrived in Oescienne and became the responsibility of the old Korli dragon Hroombra; yet much can happen in twelve years. So far, Jahrra’s life has been filled with adventure, danger, friendship and even loss. Despite what she has learned in school and what she has learned from life, she has no idea that she is in fact human, a child of the race that has been absent from the world of Ethöes for five long centuries . . .

But the girl’s identity must be kept secret, even from Jahrra herself, for if the Tyrant King of the East knew of her existence all would be lost. And as time goes by those responsible for the young human girl grow anxious and cautious, for there is evidence of an unknown danger in their midst; a danger they cannot see or hear, but one they can sense like a bad omen.

As Jahrra continues to grow and learn about the world around her, facing personal dangers, challenges and enemies of her own, she will become aware of the prophecy that she is meant to fulfill and what she must sacrifice in order to survive what lies ahead.

Twelve year old Jahrra is now finally starting to get the hand of how her life will proceed. With school, history lessons with her dragon mentor, and self defense lessons with the elves she's trying to squeeze in any little amount of time to be with her friends and just be a child.
But Jahrra isn't just a child. Her destiny is still unknown even to her, so she naturally doesn't realize the kind of danger she places herself in when she goes wondering around with her friends or does favors for her newest friend (a mystic).
However, the Crimson Kings spies are everyone and they are now on the hunt for the prophesied human. Their arrival has sped up Jaax's timeline for young Jahrra and now he's become her guardian and must convince her it's best that she leave the castle ruins to outrun the Crimson King's army.

I was sad to read about Jahrra's mentors demise. He had become such and important part of helping raise Jahrra to be who she is as she grows into adulthood. The book is a bit too lengthy still and could really use a lot of editing. There was still many times where places Jahrra's already been was once again described page after page. I hope we soon will get to learn the identity of the hooded figure that has been in a way protecting Jahraa in her dreams.

Secrets, lies, and bloodshed

This second book our heroine grows up and once again experiences a tragedy that turns her world upside down! I won't miss the immature, rebellious, lying, secretive part of this character that caused many problems. She continues to blame Jax for everything because she can't face her role in it. Will they be able to get past their dislike and lack of trust and finally forge a bond? How will they survive let alone begin a rebellion of prophecy? The last part of this book contained so much growth and development in the story. Looking forward to reading the next book!

Very interesting world.

The concept of only one of her kind. Only chance for so many. Dragons of knowledge and strength. Strife of growing up difficult enough without so many hazards.

Growth and revelations

This book seems to be mostly about Jarrha's growth and development and the revelations she comes to with the help of her various friends. Good writing.

Even better than the first book in the series. The story moves along and it was interesting watching Jahrra grow up. I did however laugh a bit at the lake monster not because it wasn't well done but, it reminded me of an episode of Little House on the Pairie.

I look forward to the Third book especially looking forward to seeing how Jahrra and Jaxx will work together.

This series is very engaging and I am enjoying it. The characters are very well developed and I do see teenagers I have known in them. I do think the teenage angst gets a bit much at times but then I guess all teenagers are that way so it is realistic. The dragons are very well placed and I like the depth that has been into these characters.
I am anxious to start Book 3. I stayed up until 2:00 am finishing book 2 which proves it has me hooked! I very much enjoyed learning one thing in the book 2 epilogue that I kept wondering about throughout the book. That bit of knowledge only helps to keep me waiting for my kindle to finish charging so I can start book 3.
This series is a very good read.

I found this book very well done for a book of this demographic. I found that there was a great deal of thing that I liked, for example, the encounter with the hooded men and how all of Jaarah's world was completely destroyed and her reaction to the truth. I foung this book set the stage well for the next book.

Truth and consequences.

Jarrah had always longed to know the truth about where she was from and why she was being raised by a dragon. Well she finds out and the truth comes with some very hard lessons

Excellent storytelling

It's not often I love the subsequent books in a series as much as the 1st but this really was an exception. So well written and full of action, drama and intrigue..A heavy dose of emotion throughout. Thoroughly enjoying my journey with Jahrra and pals.

Oh Jahrra!

Jenna has done a great job in growing interest in this story. After the adventures of this book and the disdain Jahrra has for Jaxx she's slammed them together. Unfortunately at the expense of Hroombra. Sorry for that but excited about the next book.

Quite the page turner

This book is beautifully written with vivid descriptions and lots of action and emotion. I also like that it's a clean book. I don't have to worry about language or sex scenes. It's ok for my child to read.

Shaping up to be an excellent series!

This series seems to move slowly, but only because there is SO MUCH going on! I feel complete yet left yearning for more with the ending of each book. It's been fun watching Jahrra grow up and struggle through every hurt and triumph with her.

How can lives change very very drastically

The story continues in the life of our heroine. Years pass, stories told, mysteries seen but will she ever learn the truth? What will happen when she does? Good to read the continuation of the story.

Interesting

I enjoyed the story. The descriptions of scenery and places was very necessary to the tale and built the world. All the characters are believable. I recommend this to readers from middle school to old age.

Possibly a 3.5 score. I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. To be honest if it hadn't got the preview of the next book I would have given up on the series

I absolutely love this book and series. It is well written, flows smoothly and is easy to read. It kept me engaged from the first page through the last.

I love the characters. Little Jahrra is quickly growing up. At the beginning of the book she is 12 years old. She has already been through so much in her short life. She has the best of friends in Scede and Gieaun, brother and sister who live just down the Great Sloping Hill, a great mentor and tutor in Hoombramantu, and Jaxx who occasionally pops in (although Jahrra may not consider Jaxx a friend).

We meet new character, see existing characters grow and change and learn a bit more about the outside world. Through the stories that are told you learn more about what has happened to the world in the past.

I can't wait to read book 3 and see what happens next.

Jahrra is still learning and growing, but now she faces dangers and enemies. Eventually, she learns of the prophecy and also learns that she must sacrifice to survive. The question is what is it she needs to sacrifice.

It had so much useless detail that it really bored me till the last 75 pages! I surely hope the next one won't have so much useless detail and hAve more of a story line that goes with what happens!

Excellent read. I love this series with its wonderful descriptive details. The world of Oescienne comes vividly to life as the danger continues to increase.
