Nick Caldwell "kidnaps" his 7-year-old son, Danny, to get him away from Nick's rich, influential ex-wife who has been abusing Danny. Now his ex-wife's family has a private detective hot on his trail trying to track him and Danny down. Through a series of events, caterer Allison Reed ends up on the run with Nick and his son, and while Allison finds herself falling for Nick, she questions whether or not Nick taking Danny on the run is the right thing to do.

This story had a great premise of adventure and romance while on the run in California, but what could have been a good story just didn't work for me at all because of the awful heroine. Allison was beyond stupid in everything she did. She endlessly did stupid things without ever thinking of the consequences that could easily get her, Nick and Danny caught, and therefore could result in Danny being returned to his abusive mother. She never took precautions, got mad at Nick about things when Nick was only doing what was best for his son, and her feelings were always hurt too easily. Nick and Danny were likable characters but were better off without Allison.
