The H/h are in love, together for 3 years when the H goes to the alpha to ask permission to mate the h. He finds out the h was promised to someone else when she was 12, so he goes to the h and asks her to run away with him. She refuses, he leaves and the book begins 15 years later when the pack alpha contacts him because the h is missing.
Overall, it was good, though it could have been better. There were some things that didn't make sense or weren't explained
The pack dynamics really weren't explored at all. Why are some people not allowed to mate? Why would her parents not care that she's in love with someone else?
All in all, this book showed promise, but was a bit too short for me. I'd read more by this author.
not bad but not great. far too short and a little too brutal for my tastes. I liked the backstory for the h/h- that they were former lovers separated because the heroine sacrificed love for duty, but their misunderstanding continuing after the hero risks life and limb to rescue her was childish and made the heroine TSTL, imo. Also the mad, baddie out to destroy the shifters whilst coldly dissecting them for science plotline is starting to feel cliche.
