Practical and funny. Sets you up with the one-two punch of here are all the interesting ways an infant could perish in your care, but here's why you shouldn't worry about that too much. This book shows signs of being dated, most notably in discussing in multiple places the debate over whether babies should sleep on tummy, side, or even back. Any current book (let alone the embroidery on every baby sleep sack) will tell you "back is best!" It also is often overly simplistic, although I realize that is part of its aim.
