It is a race against time. In a desperate bid to rescue his best friend's bride-to-be, Reese Starrett thunders across the dusty plains, praying for a miracle. Because it will take a miracle to save the beautiful and pampered Saber Vincente from death, or worse, at the hands of her kidnappers. Dealing with a lowdown snake like Graham Felton, Reese expects hardship, expects bloodshed. The only thing he doesn't expect is to fall in love with the innocent girl entrusted to his care. But beneath the endless, starry Texas skies her sweet warmth beckons him, her soft lips smile an inescapable seduction, and he knows that no matter what the consequences, together they must ... ride the wind.

She says: "I have always loved history, and I loved storytelling — it was only natural that I would one day put them both together. I must have lived in another life and time, because when I write, I can almost feel I was there. My favorite part of writing is the research. Whenever possible, I will go to the place I am writing about to walk the land and smell the air."
So, I've read these kinds of books before, but basically we're looking at a story that starts off okay, with an okay setup, and then gradually gets worse as the author both tries to cram in a lot of stuff...but then at the same time isn't saying much, as they just jump from scene to scene with no rhyme or reason.
Yeah, this is one of those, hence the "bad writing" tag that I've put on this.
Also, I do feel kind of deceived, since the cover and title both remind me of anotherRide the Wind: A Novel, that happens to be one of my favourite books. (Heck, the son of the couple in that book, Quanah Parker, is an actual historical figure, as was Cynthia Parker and Wanderer, so I can't help but wonder if that connection isn't also there!)
But....alas, this is NOT a Native American romance, so don't be fooled, friends! Reese Starlett isn't even mentioned as being half- anything either, so I'm assuming he's just a typical cowboy who's...for some reason portrayed as looking Native American on the cover, with a title that seems to suggest that connotation?
Meh, anyways, the parts that weren't typical were just bad, and, again, the further I read, the more rushed things felt and therefore the less impressed was I for all that happened.
Outlaws kidnapped Saber and her fiance, Major Mathew Halloway, asked his best friend, Reese Starret, the best tracker in the entire state of Texas, to rescue her. As soon as Reese laid eyes on Saber, he is bewitched by her beauty. But she belongs to his best friend and Reese is a man of honor. He would never betray his friend by stealing his woman. As soon as saber laid eyes on her rescuer, reese, she knew he would turn her world topsy turvy. But she is promised to another. As each day spent with reese passes by, she has come to the realization that what she feels for reese is a woman's love and what she feels for her fiance is just gratitude because Matthew had helped her and her aunt during the war; a girl's dream. But someone kidnapped saber for a reason and that person will stop at nothing until saber is dead. This story is very poignant and bittersweet. Reese's friendship with Matthew and his honor, saber bound to her duty to marry Matthew. Reese and saber had to overcome a lot of obstacles to get their HEA. But that is what life is all about. This story teaches you that as long as you love someone, no matter what, if you are devoted to each other and willing to ride out every storm together, then you will find your HEA.
The one thing I didn't like was the way reese thought of himself. He is a poor cowboy and saber comes from an affluent and influential family. Throughout this entire story, reese kept thinking he is not worthy and good enough for saber. I just wish he had more self love.
Let me first say, I didn’t know that there was a book before this one that tied into the characters and back story. It would have been nice to know so I could have read it first but now I don’t really need to.
Saber and Reese were great. Loved their story. Reese was a hero where Saber’s fiancé was a snob a user and a wimp!
The story went along wonderfully until the end. I really think the last 3 chapters and epilogue were too rushed. I have noticed this author does seem to rush the end of her books. Wish they would just add a few more chapters and expand on the stories but at last they don’t. This is the reason why I give her 3 1/2 ⭐️
There is lots of suspense in this book and you never knew something else would happen. I really liked this book it got to where I did not want to put it down. This book also had suspense to the very end. So happy they found each other to love.
A very enjoyable read that was very hard to put down. Only problem I had with the book was the editing errors which would reduce my rating to 4 1/2 stars. But 1/2 star ratings aren’t available so 5 stars it is!!! Great story that I’m sure I will reread many times in the future!!!
I really fell in love with this book. I loved the characters. Saber and Reese were wonderful characters and you just felt everything they went through. Just a wonderful western romance.
First off, I have to comment on this cover. For most of the book it was winter time and the Reese and Saber were just trying to stay warm (except for that brief moment in the fog when they were providing each other heat). I think it would've been interesting if they really were riding around on his horse with his shirt almost off and her wearing a scandalous dress. Poor horse, you can just tell that he's wishing he could buck these kinky people off him.
Reese: You poor badass alpha, you never stood a chance.
Saber: You lucky girl, having a badass alpha worship the ground you walk on practically from day one.
This is one of those rare historical romances where the hero loves the heroine from the start and is sweet most of the time and the heroine isn't irritating.
I remember reading this book in paperback. I figured it would end up being the abridged copy. I was so glad it wasn't. I recommend this book and all others by Constance O'Banyon.
Well writen.Great story of love mystery kidnapping. Two people who do not let each other know how they feel..Too stubborn people who Think they know best.Rich girl and z broken down cow boy who honest and respects his friendships with others.
An enjoyable story with well developed characters. The only thing that bothered me was when the author switched character point of view in mid-paragraph in a few places. She had it set up so that the ex-fiance would get his karma when assigned to George Armsrong Custer's battalion. Since we all know how that ended.
