Kathleen Duey grew up in Colorado. She loved riding her horses, hiking, being in the mountains. Reading was always important to her. Writing became a fascination early in her life. In the fourth grade, Kathleen began writing stories and told everyone who would listen that she was going to be an author. Then she did nothing about it until she was 35 years old. Writing was her passion and her dream-come-true.

Kathleen died of cardiac arrest at her home in Fallbrook, California. She was 69. She had struggled with dementia in her latter years which prevented her from completing her Skin Hunger trilogy.
"Kathleen has been diagnosed with dementia, secondary to massive seizures she has suffered for years. She seemed unaffected at first, but as the seizures continued, she lost a little bit of herself each time. Initially, she was aware she was having trouble finding words, however, it quickly became evident that Kathleen wasn’t just having trouble speaking, she was having trouble with everything, especially writing."
I will forever grieve the premature end of a wonderful series. I regret not being present in the prime of this series to express the love it deserves. 😭
Firstly, my best regards and sympathies go to Kathleen’s family and friends. She was a wonderful woman who took the time to dm 14 year old me on Facebook 10 years ago, and not only answered my questions (in length! Multiple times!), but watched and commented on the ridiculous little movies my friends and I used to post to our timelines, and that is a kindness I will never forget.
Book Depository, Amazon and Booktopia are saying Book 3 is due for release March 26th 2021, and it is even on a list of Simon Pulse’s future releases (which at the very least means it has not been forgotten or abandoned by the company, I’m hoping). So I’m coming on here to say that if the book is indeed being published posthumously, I would pay for anything: some random sentences pasted together, a not-even-a-first-draft kind of draft!
I listed this as want to read in 2012. It will never be written, the author fell ill and died in the meanwhile. Not deleting it, but writing this note as memory. RIP.
And still we wait, knowing our patience will one day bear fruit and we shall be free to indulge in the bittersweet nectar of the last and long awaited for book in the Resurrection of Magic series.
And apparently said fruit is making it's debut come late June. Hopefully this will be our final and agreed upon release date.
Update: Apparently my optimism didn't pan out but my one reassurance is that Ms. Duey still posts on facebook filling us in that she's cutting down the bulk of the book and throwing random snippets to us. So until I read that she's given up on the novel then I shall continue to wait =)
I found a recent article discussing this series and another that are similar. For anyone wanting an answer to where the thrid book is or at least why it isnt published https://www.tor.com/2018/12/20/the-co...
But a tldr, is that the author was apparently didgnosed with acute dementia. Though I would like a source to confirm this, it explains alot of why the book hasnt left production phase and has never been "official canceled" and the author now nonexistent media presence. Despite most likely beinging finished it may have never had the author's approval on several things such as cover, thanks, title and ultimately just maybe never had a final review between author and editor/publisher. There still might be hope as serveral store still have preorder for it on thier sites despite it being years. Hope the author and her family are doing well.
Well shit. I guess this series will never be finished since the author died in 2020. Bummer. I really liked the first two books and was really intrigued by this story.
Its such a shame the publishers refuse to publish this book, Kathleen did finish the draft before passing. What I wouldn't give to read it. Shame on the publishers for silencing Kathleen's final written book.
Sadly I don't think this book is ever going to come out due to the fact that the author has some major health issues including dementia and seizures 😢😭
