Nancy Zieman—author, designer, businesswomen, producer, blogger and national sewing authority—was the host of the popular show "Sewing With Nancy" which appeared on Public TV and online. Nancy was also the founder of Nancy's Notions, a direct marketing company, featuring sewing and quilting products. Nancy wrote numerous books on sewing and quilting, including her autobiography, "Seams Unlikely," which was co-authored by Marjorie L. Russell.
I was looking for a book by Nancy Zieman that shows her Pivot and slide method of pattern adjusting. I was under the impression it was a new concept but other reviewers corrected me. I bought this book under there suggestion since it was much less costly and the same as the newer book. Thank you reviewers. I am not disappointed in this book, yes the pictures are old and antiquated but what does that matter the content is what I needed. Nancy shows the method of adjusting your patterns very simply. I need to adjust my bust measurements up and could never figure out how to make a nice blouse by adjusting it myself. With this method I was able to do just that very easily and quiet good. I used it on my sleeves and they came our great, I also used it on my bust and now my blouses will fit much better. Some people just have a natural knack for sewing and Nancy surely is one of them. She has a unglue ability to make anything fit just right and her explanations are always right on.
Fitting Finesse is a troubleshooting guidebook to fixing garments with problems in fit. It explains very clearly why garments pull, or wrinkle, or bind, and how to adjust the patterns to solve the problem. It's pretty thorough. Clearly drawn diagrams throughout demonstrate where and how to make changes.
The garments depicted are very 1980s, but the solutions are universal.
