Why does an "X" stand for a kiss? Which fruits are in Juicy Fruit® gum? Why do people cry at happy endings? Why do you never see baby pigeons? Pop-culture guru David Feldman demystifies these topics and so much more in Why Don't Cats Like to Swim? -- the unchallenged source of answers to civilization's most perplexing questions. Part of the Imponderables® series, Feldman's book arms readers with information about everyday life -- from science, history, and politics to sports, television, and radio -- that encyclopedias, dictionaries, and almanacs just don't have. Where else will you learn what makes women open their mouths when applying mascara?

Witty & humorous, but the illustrations in the ebook are a little too small & not dark enough to be easily seen. This book is a palate cleanser! I have an Imponderable of my own: did Google put David Feldman out of business?
While there are a few outdated entries in the book that no longer relate to 2021 there are quite a few entries that do and all the entries were interesting to read about. Imponderables indeed.
Why Don’t Cats Like to Swim (formally published as Imponderables) by David Feldman is a nonfiction fun-fact type book about things you might wonder about but never get an actual answer to which they call imponderables. This book is different from regular fun-fact books because it goes into detail about how they got the answer and answers any other questions that arise. These questions are either come from the answer to the original question or just are questions that are related to the topic. This book should answer a lot of questions you might think about like why cats don’t like to swim. The answer to this question is pretty interesting. Cats like to be clean, however they are very lazy as you may have noticed. This means before doing something they consider the effort it will take to clean themselves afterwards. To put it simply in their minds it takes too much effort to clean themselves after swimming to make it worth it. Another question the book managed to answer was why traffic jams are caused when there has not been a traffic accident. The short answer to this one is that when a highway is overcrowded some people drive slower than the speed limit causing the ones behind to slow down in a chain reaction. The book had a lot of interesting facts that I had never thought of and some I had wondered about constantly. I would recommend this book to anyone who like trivia because the information in the book is varied. I would also recommend this book to people who just want to impress people about everything they know because the book has questions most people wonder about but do not know the answers to, which you could supply. This book could also be useful for a reader that just wants to get something small to read every once and a while because you don’t need to remember what the book was talking about earlier and the chapters come in great sizes to have something to read but not take too long to read it. However, I would not recommend this book who is looking for a story as it is not a narrative. The only thing I would change is to put a index in the start of the book instead of one at the end and organize the information so that any information related to each other was close together.

A somewhat entertaining book perfect for keeping in the bathroom or flipping through when you have an odd moment. Nothing deep, but my family seemed to enjoy it.
