Things that go bump in the night have always intrigued me. Sometimes those things are human; other times, not so much. I really played with this in my Hidden series, that reveals humans with the essence of gods who walk the knife's edge between Miami and a magical world of passion and danger. Part dragon, angel, or sorcerer, they must fight their own kind, demons, and the lure of their darkest nature.

If you’re familiar with my Tina Wainscott books, you know I'm fascinated with all things psychic. In my award-winning Offspring series, I throw a group of strangers with inexplicable psychic abilities together in a fight for their lives. As Tina, I write romantic suspense with magical realism elements (Love & Light series), The Justiss Alliance series (military romantic suspense), romantic drama in the Falling Series, and psychological suspense. Altogether I’ve published thirty-four novels and five novellas. See more www.JaimeRush.com and www.TinaWainscott.com

Summary
Fonda Raine is a government assasin, but when her boyfriend and the man she loves is burned to death in a horrific way, she vows retribution against the man responsible and her enemy, Eric Aruda. Her plan is to seduce him and when he is vulnerable...kill him. All she knows is that Eric Aruda is evil and must be taken out. What she doesn't expect is to be attracted to the villain. He is sexy as sin, and temptation. When she uses her gifts to astral project, he believes her to be a dream but convinces him to meet up with them. But when Fonda gets Eric alone, sparks fly between them, despite the fact they are enemies. However before anything explosive happens, a enemy is after them. A enemy that is one of the greatest threats, and Fonda and Eric are forced to work together. But their enemy is also after Eric's fellow teammates and outcasts. But soon Eric and Fonda realize how large the threat to them is, and they are running out of time to destroy their enemy before he destroays them all.
The Hero
Eric Aruda, along with his teammates, are not just close friends and family. They are the offspring of experiments gone wrong  with their parents. They all inherited their gifts, and they vary. Eric's gift is fire, and he can engulf any object or any person in flame. But lately his gift has been used too much, when Eric was forced to kill his enemy, when that enemy almost made him kill a teammate. His brain is starting to break down with sleeplessness and hallucinations, but he doesn't give up on fighting. Especially when he teams up with Fonda, he will need every asset he can muster to convince her of the truth of who he really is and that they don't have to be enemies. Eric is quite the hero. He gets the job done, but does what he needs to in order to protect those he loves the most and only when it is absolutely necessary. He has mocked romantic love in the past, but upon meeting Fonda, he starts to see things differently and I loved a hero that accepted his feelings naturally.
The Heroine
oh good ole Fonda....how I love thee. This was such a refreshing heroine, and was quite the assassin, but not really a true assassin. She doesn't have the heart of a killer. And after a few chapters you see why. Fonda has been terribly misguided by her previous boyfriend, and my heart really ached for her. Because she starts to learn aspects of her characteristics of her character she didn't realize she possessed. She also learns that she can do more than astral project, and that there are others out there, that can aid her in reaching her full potential...including a group that she believed to be her enemy. But when that enemy aids her, helps her she begins to think with a clear mind. Fonda hasn't had a easy childhood, almost raped and has learned to defend herself. She is tenacious, stubborn and strong willed and passionate.
Plot and Story Line
HOOYAH!! Boy was this story quite a wild ride of adventure, passion and thrilling intensity and so creative. This author really did a fantastic job with this book. Now the one thing I will say is I wouldn't recommend reading this as a stand alone (you can if you must, however I do wish that I had read this series in order) there were some things happening, that I didn't understand at first, and I had to be patient in the reading so that I could understand this world that this author has created for us. I was confused especially in the first half of the book, but I realized it was due to the fact that I hadn't read previous books where certain events take place that lead up to this story. But man did I fall in love with this couple. They are the king and queen of making an angst relationship work and where it didn't drive me crazy. You understand from the beginning that they are enemies that are forced to work together. But with each chapter, you see them falling hard in love with one another, and it was quite entertaining to see the process of them easing into each other and this new found relationship they have.

The set up of the story, is so interesting and I loved the idea of alien super powers with humans.  What I truly loved about this story is how its all put together and the way the plot proceeds and evolves as you read through it. It changes consistently, and I honestly never knew what to expect. And we get an insight and some scenes from the team of friends here. Now this team---they rock the house. I mean literally, just reading this book and getting a glimpse into how they work together was simply fantastic. We also see one of the couples in the first book, deal with some struggles and how their relationship gets tested and I really liked seeing that. We see how much they care for each other and support one another. Their bond to each other is stronger than iron, and even though that bond gets tested, we see how much they mean to each other and they are willing to fight to the death for each other and that is powerful and the author writes it so vividly.

The action is intense and there is quite a bit of mystery because they have more than one enemy that they have to deal with and I really liked seeing how Eric and Fonda handle the opposition and come out on top!! What a ride.
The Cover
Its rare to see this tone of pink in a romance cover, and I really like the overall look to it. Sensual and vivid.
Overall View
Burning Darkness is a wild ride of action, danger, angsty romance that leads to a fierce desire and a powerful love worth fighting for!! SEXY AND WILD!!

Burning Darkness is the 4th full length book in Jaime Rush's Offspring Series. This is Eric Aruda and Fonda Raine's story. Readers first meet Eric in the first book Touching Darkness. Eric Aruda is part of a group of men and women whose parents were part of a government experiment. These people all inherited special powers from their parents. Eric can set people on fire and remote view another person. He meets up with Fonda Raine when she sets up a clandestine meeting with the intent to kill him. She is successful in her intent and instead her and Eric team up when they are attacked by others. Even though Fonda wants to hate Eric, his fierce protectiveness of her eventually leads more than either of them expected.

I have been intrigued by Eric from the first book in the series. Eric is one of those morally ambiguous characters who you aren't quite sure if he is good or bad. He definitely intrigued me and I couldn't wait to see what his character would do next in the series. I have to say that I was NOT disappointed with this book. Burning Darkness lived up to my expectation and so far is the best of the series.

For me this book was all about the hero. I just was totally hung up on Eric. I liked that he is big and bad and ferociously loyal and protective. Sigh. What's not to love? Also, I felt that Burning Darkness focused on the romance much more so than the other books in the series. I love that when Fonda has some hang ups in bed, Eric helps her work through it. For as pushy as Eric can be it is a good thing with Fonda at certain times. Fonda kept Eric guessing half the time too, which made thing interesting.

I think this series is getting better and better. I can't wait to see whose book is next. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

All I can say is that Jaime Rush sure can write. I love her novels. I must admit that I have always been a big Eric fan since book one. He is the jerk of the group. But in this book and pairing him up with Fonda was just great to me. You get to see a whole other side besides him being always angry. I love that their tender moments not just with Fonda who lets face it needs it greatly but also with his sisters and the other Offsprings. I must admit since it had been awhile between books I forgot who Fonda was along with the Pope. Ok Fonda was a confused and scarred character. My heart went out to her. But at the core for me she was strong , she had her armor to get her through.

The Pope is in here and who he is , is explained. I like that in this one we get some answers. I must say that some of that was seriously cool and for me a little unexpected. The baddies are back and OMG Syler was there!! UGH!!!That guy seriously creeps me out. There is also a side story of sorts with Amy and Lucas. Which some did not really like but I totally did. Cant wait for the next one!

Eric Aruda is sleep deprived and thinks the beautiful woman he sees in his room is a hallucination. Fonda Raine is capable of projecting herself to places away from her body. She torments Eric sexually and lures him to a hotel so she can take her revenge out on Eric for using his pyrokinetic abilities to kill her boyfriend, Jerryl. She hesitates at first giving Eric a chance to defend himself but both are in danger when a man posing as a government agent tries to kill them. They along with the other Offspring (children of participants in a secret government program revolving around physic abilities that turned deadly) are now considered lose ends and need to be silenced for good. On the run Eric and Fonda have no choice but to trust each other.

Eric is more than the hard edged, shoot first ask questions later man I've come to like. The love and devotion for those he considers his runs deep and he doesn't necessarily enjoy starting the fires that some times kill people. He just wants to survive the war. It figures that the only woman who has sparked more than sexual desire in him wants him dead. Fonda watched as her boyfriend died and wants to kill Eric for taking away the only man who's ever loved her, but she is not really a killer and hesitates. Now on the run with him, she is seeing him as more than a cold blooded killer. Growing up in a home with a drug addicted father and step mother who called her hateful names, Fonda isn't use to the affection and protectiveness that Eric is showing her. Through Eric she sees what she thought was a loving relationship with Jerryl was really just fake emotions and sex. She knows what she now has with Eric is real and worth fighting for. It's not an easy road for these two and if it was I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. Their relationship didn't feel rushed even though it happened over a few days.

There was a lot of moving from place to place for Eric and Fonda. There's a man with deadly powers after them, as well as an enemy from past books. I understand the need for having to move around but it still felt like too much. They are constantly jumping around from place to place and making stops to change over and over again that it wore me out. I ended up skimming a few chapters because it didn't all feel necessary. There was also a side story with Amy and Lucas. There's been a lot of talk over the last few books about Lucas' powers being too much for him and it finally gets to a point that Amy makes a choice to help him, knowing how angry he will be at her. It was nice having that part of the story closed but at the same time it didn't really flow with what was going on with the rest of the book and I wouldn't have missed it if it was left out.

In past books the story had a government conspiracy/cover up feel to it but in Burning Darkness things take more of a sci-fi turn. The origin of the Offsprings powers are revealed and we learn exactly who the mysterious Pope is. I thought it was great. Though the story has high points, low points and a bunch of in between, I thought Burning Darkness was a nice blend of action, danger, romance and mystery, all with a paranormal twist. Fans of the series should like it. If you haven't already read it then I suggest going back and starting with book 1. There is a lot that won't make sense if you don't.

*SPOILER FREE

This was my favorite book in this series so far! I’ve been dying for Eric’s story for a while and not only did Jaime deliver it, she also blew me away with the revelations she made in this novel.

Eric has been the bad boy among the heroes of this series since book one. He is always the bloodthirsty one, the one ready to get physical and solve things the most violent way possible or even simply set his enemies on fire, whatever is easier. Not only that, but he has been feeling annoyed by his friends for a while. They are all paring up and falling in love and he feels that they shouldn’t, specially since they are in the middle of a war and there is no worst time for it.

Cut to Fonda who until very recently was working for the Offspring’s enemy, Darkwell and part of a team that was actively hunting them. Who also personally hates Eric for killing her lover and has decided to hunt Eric and kill him herself. Two people couldn’t possibly be on more different sides of a story, but the is that Fonda doesn’t know all the truth behind the Institute and the offspring, and the man she is on the hunt for might be the only one who can help her, if she isn’t careful enough he might even steal her heart.

I LOVED Burning Darkness! Eric and Fonda are an awesome pair and their romance set the pages on fire. But for this pair it was definitely not all about the smex, their connection ran so much deeper that, I couldn’t help but fall in love with both of them and their stories. I was glued to the pages of this book from the beginning to the very last word and I can’t wait for more from this series.

Jaime Rush brought out all the guns with Burning Darkness, she answered some huge questions and shocked the hell out me with most of it. I love the world she has built and I soooo want more!

If you enjoy Paranormal Romance with a great deal of action, this is definitely the series for you!

Burning Darkness is the fourth book in Jaime Rush's incredible Offspring series.

Eric Aruda and Fonda Raine are both Offspring, children of a mysterious experiment gone awry. All of the Offspring have psychic powers; Eric has pyrokenesis and Fonda is able to astral project. Of all of the characters in the series, Eric is by far my favorite and I couldn't wait to FINALLY read his story. Hell who wouldn't love a guy who when asked what his power is said "I set people on fire"? HEE HEE

Throughout the series, Eric has been the hard ass. The one guy who was tough and would protect his friends and family without caring about the death and destruction that came along with it. Then he took out an enemy and the event scarred him. Fonda was a witness to that event; she was there when Eric set her boyfriend on fire. After witnessing the horrific event, she swore vengence and made it her mission to kill Eric.

Fonda had every intention of destroying Eric but fate intervened and soon the two of them found themselves on the run and depending on each other for survival. To see Eric from a different perspective was gratifying for me. He may be dark, damaged and a little crazy but he has a huge heart when he allows himself to actually feel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The character development was great, it was action packed and we FINALLY get to know where the Offspring originate from and why everything has happened. Can't wait to get into Petra and Cheveyo's story next.

Totally Captivating and HOT!

Wow, I was totally swept away just after reading the first chapter. What an exciting fast paced and fast action - kicking ass throughout the whole book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Fonda is one tough little chick and the romance between her and Eric is out of this world. I totally fell in love with Eric Aruda, I mean “What a Man, What a Man, What a Mighty Good Man!” TOTALLY HOT!

If you like the thought of other dimensional worlds, psychic powers, teleporting your soul and being able to move objects, or having the ability to burn someone with just a thought than you will love this book.

Even though this was the first Offspring book I have read in this series I totally loved the Alien aspect of this story and it made me want to read more about the other Offspring. I will definitely be reading the books before this one. If you are worried about reading this book out of order, don’t worry the book could totally be a standalone read and it does give you little updates of the other characters. Great Read!

Fonda Raine lives for one thing: killing Eric Aruda
A month has passed since Darkwell has fallen... Fonda's boyfriend (Darkwell's man) died in her arms - burned to death by Eric... and she is determined to have revenge...

She lures Eric to a hotel room, drugs him, ties him up... but plunge the knife into him... he wakes up quickly, breaks the bonds... but when Westerfield attacks, Eric grabs her hand and they run... and keep running...

the rest of the Offspring are stuck in the tomb - Westerfield's men are watching the gallery...

Eric and Fonda face Westerfield a few times... and can't stop him... Sayre's doing his into dreams thing, and sex - and they can't stop him... they meet up with Magnus and Eddie - who are working to refine the antidote...

story jumps around, between the tomb, Eric/Fonda, & Westerfield and brother (who is the Vice President)...

Fonda gives Eric the most recent antidote when he is succumbing to the side effects of the dna - and he comes out on the other side healthy and with his powers in tact... and they both realize they love each other, in spite of their problems...

and we finally get the final story... there are parallel universes and Pope (who ends up to be their savior), Westerfield, and VP brother are from that universe (and they want human emotions, like a drug, and are arranging for the deaths of many exposed to Essence) - not human (their world humans killed off by virus); and somehow, when they die, their bodies disintegrate and leave a residue... which is the basis of fungi that started the Offspring they kill Sayre (in a fight forced by Westerfield between Eric and Sayre)... they kill Westerfield (she freezes time, and pushes him into the propeller of the plane)... Pope flashes them to Magnus for the antidote, flashes them to the tomb, where VP is spreading Essence through the ventilation into the tomb (which will cause craziness, and they'll kill each other).

Pope kills the VP - and Fonda and Eric get inside, and administer the antidote before his friends go over the top and kill each other...

yay...

This is my first time with this author and this series. Because of that unfamiliarity, the story moved a bit slow for me. The characters and premise were interesting. I won't spoiler, but admit that the ending was a nice bit of a twist and not something I'd quite expected. Fonda, at times, felt out of time with her 60's vocabulary - "groovy," "far out," and "tripping," - for example. There were also times where both Fonda and Eric seemed immature, bordering on juvenile, teens rather than adults.
Well done.

2.5/5 only because I’ve never read a story like this and because “enemies to lovers” was done “right”.Although the animosity between the two wasn’t 100% mutual the transition from enemies to lovers was realistic and interesting. Other than that the book was meh.

Author had to throw in a “angelic white girl helps poor homeless black man” like literally what was the point lol it did nothing for the plot…

Review provided by Black Lagoon Reviews:

This novel is a page-turner thriller that perfectly incorporates superhuman abilities, with a science fiction oriented government conspiracy and a dash of steamy romance. From the onset I was hooked on the world created by Rush as well as the characters and first rate story telling.

'Burning Darkness' is the fourth novel in Jaime Rush’s Offspring series and what intrigued me most about this novel when I began reading was the premise. While superhuman abilities are not exactly original, Rush’s approach to them were. Essentially what it boils down to is this:

About 20+ years ago, the US government experimented on people with latent psychic abilities in a project called 'Blue Moon'. The goal of the project was to enhance their powers with a drug made from a mysterious substance found at a meteorite site. Most or all of those given the drug died, but those that survived had a highly accelerated libido and psychic abilities. The children who were conceived by members of this project became known as the Offspring, each having inherent fully formed genetic abilities. These children became divided, some being enrolled by the CIA and others became known as the Rogues, a group who fought against the project and those behind it therefore becoming known as ‘the enemy’.

If you are new to the series like me at first it's a little hard to know which side actually represents the greater good. However, we come to see that the Rogues are actually those aware of the truth behind their parentage and their abilities, realizing that the government is using those in their employ to their own means. It is interesting seeing those truths revealed especially those focusing on the mysterious origins of the Offspring. Are they alien? What was the mysterious substance that altered their DNA? For me, this was quite interesting and kept me reading until the end hoping to get some answers to those questions. Wonderfully enough, Rush does reveal the fantastical truths to those questions that while amazing and hard to believe makes a sort of sense within the Offspring universe. It also opens up the series to expand in later novels and it should be interesting to see how she utilizes this new information in the future.

The characters are also extremely fascinating and endearing. While highly developed, they pull you into the story with their complexities and emotions. From the first moment I was intrigued by Fonda Raine, a charming woman who has a giving nature yet hides a painful and lonely past. She is tough yet vulnerable driven by the need to avenge the murder of her lover Jerryl by Eric Aruda. Eric is likewise complicated, trying to avoid the descent into madness that being an Offspring can induce. Yet despite his fears, he is a charming character that I came to deeply adore. He has an inner strength and while a self proclaimed jerk, he is caring and protective of Fonda, helping her to overcome the darkness of her past despite her original goals of assassinating him. However, while I loved the characters there is a lot of repetition in their thoughts and emotion that limit the growth of the relationship as well as hindering their own evolution at times. Admittedly this is small when compared to the chemistry between the characters and the over all appeal of them throughout the story.

My only real grievance about the novel at times, which I confess is a small thing and didn't detract from the overall experience, was the style of the writing. The short staccato of the sentences was perfect to keep the action moving and added to the pace of the story but, at times it was only chaotic and confusing. Likewise, some emotional moments lacked fluidity and disrupted the romance though it worked perfectly in those moments where the passion was heated. I fully admit that this might be due to the fact that I am reading an ARC and such matters will be fixed before publication, but it was disruptive to the flow of the novel and occasionally left me scratching my head.

Overall, 'Burning Darkness' was a gripping novel filled with surprising twists, great action and an engaging romance. A must read for fans of the old television show The X-files with its wonderfully thought out government conspiracy and thrilling science fiction action or fans of steamy romance!

We start this book with Fonda who is on a mission to kill Eric Aruda. He set her lover of fire... whilst they were having sex! Ouch!

I didn't like Eric at the beginning of this series, he was so impulsive and dangerous. You could never really tell if he was a good guy or not. But we slowly saw the softer side of him, painting his sisters nails and the lighter humour he shares with his friends.
Throughout the series he made it very clear to all of them what he thought about them all falling in love. How it was rediculous, putting them all in more danger and making their emotions unstable enough to deal with the war they have been facing. But I slowly grew to love his character, fires and all. So I could not wait to see who would bring this guy to his knees. I wasn't dissapointed.

Fonda was amazing. I stupidly assumed from her brief appearences in the last book that she was a hard ass. Helping her lover Jerryl to torment the Rogues and eventually would help him kill them. But as usual Darkwell had lied to her and witheld vital information... surprise surprise!
It turned out that Fonda had had a really hard childhood, she had to learn very quickly to look after herself and trust no-one to help her. She has always felt totally alone, so when the nutcase Jerreyl stood up for her in a bar and proceeded to sleep with her, she sadly mistook their sexual arrangement for love.

I absolutely loved this book. Eric and Fonda's relationship was passionate and explosive, it was also 100% believable. Fonda took time to understand the truth behind her old fling with Jerryl. That he didn't love her at all. Then as she learned more about the Offspring world and all the players involved in this war, she understood the reasons why Eric killed Jerryl and she forgave him for his actions.
Eric's behaviour and the way he showed his love for Fonda in this book was just beautful to read. He did (as always) have some hilarious scenes and whitty comebacks.

The storyline progression in this book was incredible, the best of them all so far.

Things are rounded up with Sayre Andrus.

We see a brief glimpse of Cheveyo, who's book I can't wait to read. He and Petra will be brilliant together.

Magnus and Laclan made another appearance. I really like Magnus, but I have to say that lachlan is really giving me the creeps now. He seems so dark and calculating. I think we will be seeing more of him.

What the hell was that with Pope? Honest to god I thought he was one of the bad guys. I hope we get to see him again and learn what has happened to him with the collaborate.

Great quotes from Eric:

'You're right. My other vise is having sex. Lot's of hot, sweaty, mokey sex.'

'Do you have to ask? Oversexed male with blue balls who was recently teased by a sexy nymph. A man can only take so much, and I'm stretched as tight as a rubber band that's been pulled a hundred feet apart.' He jabbed his finger at her. 'You prance around in that at your own risk.'

'I'll take care of your daughter. She's safe with me.'

I love you. That's all I know right now. It's enough.'

'But what if you had a man who let you hold onto him whenever you want. Who's always there to cling to, who says he loves you over and over without you having to try? You wouldn't be needy because you wouldn't need anything. You'll have it. Right here.' He pressed his fingers over her heart.

'Take me home, Eric. To our home. I want you in my bed every night for the rest of our lives.' He widened his eyes. 'What, like a sex slave?'

I can't wait to see where this series goes from here.

Fonda Raine has hated Eric Aruda ever since she learned of his and his friend's existence while working for a secret government agency. Her job was to track down Eric and his friends, who all have varying types of psychic abilities, and eliminate them. Her hatred grew the minute Eric killed the man she loved, and now that the agency she worked for has been destroyed, she's going after him on her own. But the minute she has him in her grasp is the moment an assassin shows up to kill them both. From then on they must work together to stay alive and uncover and stop an even bigger danger. A danger that affects not only those with psychic abilities, but all of society.

Eric Aruda's been dreaming about a wild and sexy pixie when she's suddenly in front of him with a knife. She's not the only one who wants him dead and from that moment on he has a somewhat unwilling partner helping him stop the man chasing them and stopping an even more heinous plan. Along the way though they learn more about one another and break through each other's emotional barriers to start falling in love. But just when their love starts, their lives will be on the line to stop an evil bent on mass murder.

This is the fourth book in the Offspring series and features many characters from the previous books. Eric plays a huge role in this book, with the other Offspring playing a very peripheral role. The only time he interacts with his friends is via the phone which feels jarring to the flow of the action. Eric doesn't need much help though as he's the perfect hero, strong and sexy and willing to die for the woman he loves. Fonda makes a good partner to Eric, she's strong and feisty and looks before she leaps. She carries a lot of emotional baggage, but it's very believable emotions she's feeling. Seeing the two of them bond is the best part of the story.

The weakest part of the story is the storyline itself. There's a lot of action, but the action doesn't usually lead to anything. There's scene after scene of Eric and Fonda running, but it feels like they're running in circles. The evil plan that the bad guys implement comes about quickly and ends just as quickly with action scenes that are exciting, but don't last very long. But while I was ultimately disappointed with the overall storyline, a lot of information regarding the creation of the Offspring comes out in this book. The truth creates whole new problems for the Offspring and introduces new and exciting characters in a series that I fully expect will get more exciting from here.

Jaime Rush's latest offering is a delightful combination of sweet romance and action-packed suspenseful moments.

Fonda Raine is out to kill Eric Aruda, who'd torched her boyfriend. However, she didn't account for her attraction to him, and when a common enemy shows up, they must team up as they fight for their lives and that of their friends...

My first foray into this series and I wasn't disappointed! Though the start was rocky, both the writing and the story flowed from the time Fonda had Eric in her clutches. As I understood Fonda and her motivations better, I was able to sympathize with her and I even like her. I think it must be tough on her, to realize that she'd been working for the wrong side before, though she wasn't as shocked or "traumatized" by the realization as I thought she would've been. And when her insecurities were revealed, I really like how Jamie Rush's writing made me feel Fonda's emotions acutely and how Eric's regard would mean so much to her.

What I also like about Ms Rush's characters is that they were human. They committed mistakes and did things they later regret, and not small things, mind you, but the biggies. Those happened in the previous books, but still, they had a way of changing people, no one more so than Eric. Though he wasn't as alpha as some books I've read, I like him for his sensitivity and his caring ways, and his readiness and willingness to die for people he loved.

Ms Rush's writing and plotting were phenomenal. She really knew how to up the ante for our characters and she had me on the edge of my seat several times as Eric and Fonda met and battled danger. A few times, I really don't know how they'd get out of there alive! In some books I've read, the characters were supposed to be in peril, but you don't feel it. Not so here! I was there all the way with Fonda and Eric, every spine-tingling, heart-pounding, fear-gripping moment.

I haven't read the previous books in this series, but that in no way hampered my enjoyment of this story. The author gave enough background in the necessary places so that I'd be able to catch up on things. Also, readers who follow this series would be happy to see more of Lucas and Amy, and how things are for them after the "HEA" in their book. Although I'm not really sure, not having read the previous books, but it seemed to me that the series arc also progressed in this book and fans of the series would find the revelations electrifying.

Fonda is on a mission, a mission of death. Fonda is tough and strong but she also has a softer side, which is what you see right from the start with her interactions with George. When Fonda goes into a meditation ethereal state, Fonda can astral project, she cases out Eric who is the target of her mission, she finds herself attracted to him, desiring him as he desires her; she decides to use it to her advantage. Fonda arranges to meet Eric at a bar which is where Fonda makes her move, luring him back to her motel room and drugging him;

“The girl... what was her name again? She leaned close again. “Eric Aruda...welcome to the last day of your life.”
Then he lost the battle and his eyes crashed shut.”

Eric awakes tied to a bed and at the mercy of Fonda, the lover of the enemy he had killed, he manages to break free from the ropes that he is tied with and now is the time he must face Fonda. Then something unexpected happens, an FBI agent turns up outside the motel room door, and he is out to kill them both. Eric and Fonda team up and Eric helps Fonda see that she is fighting on the wrong side that she has trusted the wrong people, and why he did what he did in the past, though Fonda remains wary. Fonda’s world is blow wide open when the truth about the lover she is avenging comes to light and why he was killed;

“Her eyes widened, and it felt as though someone had thumped her hard in the chest. Jerryl hadn’t loved her. What he had loved was killing. And not only killing in general, but killing Eric Aruda. “

This realisation by Fonda allows for her to have faith in Eric and to open herself up more, to not be so hesitant to embrace the feelings she has for him, her desire for him. I loved the way Eric stood up for Fonda against Connie when they went to stay at her father’s place for the night, it just makes you swoon. All in all, this was better than I expected it to be as must first experience with a Jamie Rush novel, it was a nice surprise, it was easy to keep up with what was happening and you were able to develop a relationship with the characters themselves which is a tell-tale sign of a good read. I was having a hard time deciding what to rate this, if I could I would give it four and a half stars but I will round it up to five, the steam and the emotion in the book really made it for me.

A lot of questions get addressed in the 4th installment to the Offspring series. We finally learn where the offspring get there powers from, who's after them, and will they finally get to live a fugitive free life. Offspring Fonda Raines, who worked for the enemey, has set her sites on getting revenge on Eric after he kills the love of her life. When the time comes to kill Eric she finds that she can't do it. Caught together by a new enemy, the couple are on the run for their lives as they are chased by an assassin more powerful than any they have ever gone up against.

I found the fight between the enemy and the two offspring to be the most entertaining of the whole story. I found the chemistry between Eric and Fonda a little lukewarm and kind of wished that we would have seen a little more of Eric's oversexed bad ass personality. I found that in Eric's story the author toned down his personality a lot. No longer was he the shoot first ask questions later type of person. Fonda was cute and a little spunky, but in no ways a good match for Eric. I wish the author would have teamed him up with a heroine that was as strong of personality as he is. After reading all four books I found all the heroine's to be a little weak, more so relying on their powers and the men instead of being more proactive and self sufficient. I didn't necessarily want the heroines to be hot heads, just a little more powerful than they actually were. To me, they seem come off more as damsel in distress and other than Fonda, none of them really had cool powers. One could heal, the other could see aura's and the other could move items but wasn't really good at it. They next book is Petra's story, who annoyed me most of the series. Throughout the books she came across as the slightly selfish dizzy blonde. I'm on the fence on whether or not I will pick this one up.

Fonda Raine is feeling a lot of rage toward Eric Aruda. He killed her boyfriend and managed to get away scot free. Witnessing the death of the only man she has ever felt close to sends Fonda over the edge. She has one mission and that is to get revenge. Fonda waits to approach Eric when his guard is down the most. She astral projects herself into his room at night, convincing him at first she is just a hallucination. Once Fonda prepares herself for the inevitable, there is no turning back. She confesses to Eric that she is real and asks him to meet with her.

Eric jumps at the chance to meet the woman who has quickly invaded his senses. They hit it off well and he follows her back to her hotel room. There he gets much more than he is counting on. Then something unexpected happens for Eric and Fonda. They are forced to put aside their own problems in lieu of a much bigger one. Someone wants to take them out, and not in the good sense of the word. Eric and Fonda must work together to eliminate the threat to them or both will surely meet a terrifying end.

BURNING DARKNESS by Jaime Rush is the fourth novel in the OFFSPRING series. This is one series that just keeps getting better. All of the characters have grown on me. I was so glad to read more about the characters from the past novels, A PERFECT DARKNESS, OUT OF THE DARKNESS and TOUCHING DARKNESS. The latest duo, Eric and Fonda, are just as engaging as ever. BURNING DARKNESS will lead you on action-packed adventure. It is a fast-paced novel that will draw you in. BURNING DARKNESS is a page-turner. I cannot wait to read the next book in the OFFSPRING series, BEYOND THE DARKNESS.

This book continued the large leap that the last book made. We know now that the whole thing behind Blue Moon and the Offspring is aliens. We learn more on this front and I think that we will continue to with the series. I do find it intriguing what we have learned so far.

One aspect of this book I had a hard time buying into with this book was the change in Fonda. She went from hating Eric, to the point that it is her mission to kill him, to falling in love with him, in a matter of days. While I can see the action happening, it is the time table that is hard for me to believe. So in order to enjoy the book I just had to put that aside and go with it.

Once I was able to do that I did like the build up of Eric and Fonda's relationship. Eric seemed to fall immediately and had to work for any and every feeling from Fonda. But as we learn her history it makes sense. I did like the two of them together.

We also go to see more of Lachlan and Magnus. I find I am really enamored of these 2 guys, I wish that we could learn more of them. Hopefully they will end up with their own books in the future.

Finally Eric is getting his chance for love. I have always liked Eric and we finally see a totally different side of him from the Hard ass tough guy he has been through out the series. Fonda defiantly isn't who we thought she was and I enjoyed watching her and Eric bring each others true selves out. There is plenty of action, romance and twists to keep you turning the pages. I liked learning all the new info given about the offspring's and how they came to be. I enjoyed reading BURNING DARKNESS but it seemed like nothing really HAPPENED, even though there is a bunch of action it just seemed like they ran, they fought, they ran they fought and that was about it besides the relationship growing. I also found that the ending didn't really correspond with the past experiences of the book, I cant really explain more about what I mean due to spoiling it for you but I'm sure you will understand what I'm talking about after you read it. If you enjoyed the previous books in the Offspring series I'm sure you will still enjoy BURNING DARKNESS.

Once again, Jaime Rush delivers an action packed, well written, and extraordinary novel. Like the rest of the series, this will keep you intrigued, addicted, and on the edge of your seat. Eric Aruda is hot (in every sense of the word) and can set fires with his mind. He is part of a group of people who all have supernatural abilities and are being hunted because of them. Fonda Raine is not a part of that group, in fact she is one of the people trying to hunt them down. After a messy encounter with Eric and his group Fonda vows revenge and intends to get it at any cost. Using her unique ability to Astral Project, Fonda attempts to kill Eric. The problem is someone else is trying to kill Eric and to kill her as well. Though they start off as enemies, they quickly realize they will need to work together if they intend to survive. And the closer they get the less he seems like an enemy to her. If you like paranormal romance you'll surely love this book. I love the Offspring series and I highly recommend it to all

This is a great story about the stubborn hotheaded but very sexy Eric Aruda after making fun of his male housemates about emotions and their woman, now he is the one in the hot seat with the ex-assassin Fonda Raine but after losing her lover Jerryl to a fire that Eric caused now she wants revenge but she doesnt have it in her to kill another person no matter what. But Eric is the last thing she has to worry about when an FBI agent is snooping around her and what she knows about the other offspring. When said FBI agent tracked her down to the motel room where she had Eric tied up when the truth hits her that what she knows about people like her is limited Eric and Fonda are on the run for a mysterious agent that has powers that noone knew about but is more deadlier the Lucas's evil twin brother. But unfortunately Eric and Lucas receives shots that could stop their abilities or not, did they loose them or did they find something even the bad guys never thought about with Magus and Lachlan McLeod version of their fathers antidotes.

Wow, I think I swallowed the sun!

BURNING DARKNESS was sooooo super hot and emotionally engaging on all levels.

The brilliance of the offspring books pertains to how expertly Jaime weaves their “ability” as something they must accept and learn before it becomes their strength. This really gives me a chance to connect and root for her characters!

…and what an amazing read! As a fan of the Offspring series, I couldn’t wait to see how Jaime Rush finds Eric a match for his fiery disposition. Imagine my delight when she pitted him against the one woman keen on killing him – because he killed her lover! From page one through the edge-of-your-seat middle to the nail-biting-don’t-forget-to-breathe end, this book delivers an adrenaline rush! Well worth the lost hours of sleep to stay up and finish it.

Even though I won and read the e-arc in one night, I couldn’t wait to get the paperback signed by Jaime!

Excellent!! This is my favorite one of this series so far, Eric has always been a hard pain-in-the-ass character that you love to hate. And now we get to see him come undone, face his demons, and help Fonda overcome hers. All while on the run and trying to kill off their enemies. A lot gets answered in this book, and it seems almost like this could be the end of the story. But no, Rush has more for us to read. This book was a page-turning addiction for me, reading it all in one day. Eric and Fonda are a great couple, and I really enjoyed their journey. It was passionate, drama filled, and in the end, worth it all. You can read this book without reading the others, but I recommend starting at the beginning so you get the full impact.

This is a page-turner novel. It is filled with conspiracy, danger, romance and love. Eric Aruda is one of the most dangerous Offspring. He shows very little compassion or concern for people. His view of love is that it only gets in the way. But after meeting Fonda Raine, he finds that maybe he was wrong. Maybe there is something about finding the right person. He soon finds himself fighting two dangerous battles. One with his heart, the other for the lives of his Offspring family.

This is my favorite book from the Offspring series. Eric Aruda has always been my favorite character. I am so glad that his story has been told and can’t wait to read Petra’s story.

A new must read series for me. This is the fourth book in this series and I would recommend reading this series in order as there were a couple of times I found myself lost with some character interactions.

I love reading paranormal romances and this series is right up my alley. Fonda's need for revenge against Eric - coupled with their immediate attraction provided an unbelievable roller-coaster of intense emotions and sexual chemistry. Once I started reading it I couldn't stop.

There are so many unanswered questions in this series and I can't wait to find out those answers and see how Ms. Rush reveals them! A wonderful cliffhanger!!

I couldn't wait to read this latest installment of the Offspring series and bought it as soon as it came out. Of course I read it straight through in one day. I loved all of the usual Offspring offerings- drama, suspense, intriguing character romance, but I was really thrown by the final spin. I'm still trying to sort through this odd turn of events. I watch the TV show "Fringe" and enjoy that, I just wasn't expecting the Offspring series to overlap with it... I think I'll have to wait it out and see how the next one goes to really form a stance on this.
