If you want to read this book, I don't really recommend it especially if you don't have a large knowledge of English! The story also isn't very interesting, well it's a kind of book (scandals in a society based on social conventions) that you must like...If you don't, read another book!!! Neverthless, at the end of every chapter you always take your breath away because this book exactly works on the suspense to catch the attention of the reader!!! :)

A beautifully written story of forbidden love, and how it shaped the lives of Newland Archer, his bride, May, and May’s cousin Countess Olenska.
A golden age tale of New York society, with all the nuances and expectations of a privileged life. Originally published in 1920, and it is a classic. Now I want to re-watch the movie.

I loved the story and marked soo many quotes from this novel! It was also easy to read, i almost wished it was 3 times longer. Now i'm thinking about reading the full version of the book.

Lo cierto es que la novela me ha gustado más de lo que esperaba. No confiaba mucho en que me enganchara, lo reconozco, pero lo hizo.
Lo que destacaría es el reflejo de una sociedad decadente y casi ridícula, dominada por los convencionalismos sociales y encorsetada en sus prejuicios. Artificial como pocas, pero perfectamente plasmada. Los personajes me han sorprendido. Ellen Olenska es la valiente inadaptada de la historia, y la más leal y coherente. May Welland es la que, más que sorprenderme, me ha dejado de piedra. Pasa de ser una jovencita sosa y casi provinciana (en el sentido de que no concibe el mundo fuera de su pequeño círculo, por mucho que viva en Nueva York) a sacar fuerza no se sabe de dónde para coger las riendas y ser la única capaz de luchar por lo que quiere. Y Newland Archer es... un idiota patético. Lástima, pero es lo que me ha parecido. Más de medio libro dándoselas de moderno y a la hora de la verdad... un cobarde que se agarra al pasado porque tiene miedo de mirar al futuro. El final (aunque me lo esperaba) me ha dejado un sabor de boca extraño.
