Lacy Fitzgerald may have made one bet too many. This time, the stakes are her trust fund, her freedom, and even her single status. To win, she must take her father's seed money and create a successful lingerie company in one year with no help from any outside sources. Six months into it, out of money and deeply in debt, she hires a handsome hunk to make her catalog sizzle and her sales soar. But far from being a typical lingerie model, there's more to Gabriel Wallace than meets her eyes ... or her hands.
Double Exposure is a story very dear to my heart. Lacy and Gabe deserve each other, but parental interference threatens their chance at happiness.
Award-winning author Tori Scott believes in love and enjoys writing about the ways people fall in love and the pitfalls along the way. Her own love story was a classic romance storyline. She met her husband, Tony, on her first day of college at the age of 17 and knew the moment she met him that he was the one she was supposed to marry. She did, and they now live on 5 acres in the country with their dog Bo. They have 4 grown children and 5 grandchildren.
I was excited when Tori Scott sent me this book. It came at a time when I was hoping to acquire a few snappy, bright contemporaries with a category-ish feel, and Double Exposure fits that description perfectly. It's about a spoiled young girl trying to prove that there's more to her than daddy's money, and the man who gets caught in her web. She's looking for a "real man" to model in her lingerie catalog, and she thinks the hero is a construction worker down on his luck. He does work in construction, but not by swinging a hammer. He's the owner of a large, prosperous contracting company, but he hides the truth because he sees in this muddle a chance to repay a favor that's been hanging over his head for years.
So that's what it's about. But I have to admit, the scene in the mountain pool with the two of them swimming in designer lingerie was what really sold me on this story. It's very provocative.
I want to start by saying this is a great cover. Sexy man in heart underwear clearly highlighting his "attributes" I mean what's not to like right. So without even cracking the cover it's off to a very promising start. The story is well paced, engaging and carries you seamlessly to the very last page. The relationship and interaction between the main charcters is natural, realistic and gets nice and steamy without dragging on too long in any one spot. I do wonder if anything will come of Suzanne and Stan seeing as there was mention of them meeting to discuss business and it stood out to me that maybe there could be more there?? Another book perhaps ;) In the end Lacy's adventurous side will balance out Gabe's more reserved side and they'll find their HEA. This was my first time reading Tori Scott and I'm definitly looking forward to reading her other books, cuz if there anything like this one I won't be disappointed!
A fairly standard romance plot - woman with controlling father has to make a success of her business or marry the man of daddy's choice. Multi-millionaire mistaken for unemployed is offered work to help her succeed. He meddles, there are lots of mistaken identies, counter plots etc. I could see where this was going, and seeing who the authors favourite authors are, she has done her homework. I did feel that whilst the writing style was quite clean and easy to read, the plot sometimes seemed to take leaps forward and I didn't feel much connection to the love affair. More buildup rather than leaping into the hot tub may have helped.
