Jeshua Barnabus never dreamed that a beggar boy from the streets of Bethlehem would be allowed to witness the arrival of the Messiah. But with a new star to guide them and heavenly messengers heralding the Savior's coming, Jeshua and his friends soon find the infant Lord. And when they do, everyone seems to have something to offer the babe everyone except Jeshua. What gift could a lowly orphan bring that would be fit for the King of Kings? In The Fourth Gift, you'll travel with Jeshua through the dusty streets of ancient Israel and learn for yourself the true reason we give gifts during the Christmas season. J. Tucker Davis's heartwarming tale of faith, love, and sacrifice is sure to become a holiday tradition in your home for years to come.
LOVED it! Loved being a part of the wonder of that 1st Christmas night & seeing it through the eyes of a humble shepherd boy. it is a short little story, but full of heart & love & Christmas spirit. i have always loved Tucker's stories!
There were notes at the end that were very informative too. my only complaint is i WANT MORE of the story!!! :) hope there's more to come!
Would love to see this in a movie. Just kept thinking it could have been sweeter if written in first person, but that's just me. This is a great read at Christmas time, perfect for all family ages. Sweet, sensitive story about Christ's birth and an orphan boy's desire to give the baby a gift. I predict we will hear a lot more about this book through the years.
Great Christmas story perspective. Love the last chapter where the author explains why he wrote what he did and uses Bible references in said explanations. Also how fun us it that the author is Brandon Mull's uncle.
A cute little Christmas story that I am making sure that all my adult children's families will be getting a copy. I just loved this precious nearly tear jerker (for me anyway) story.
A little beggar boy sees the baby Jesus and wants to give him a gift. He decides the only thing he has is a little wooden lamb. He decides to carve one for the baby. Good story.
What a wonderful extrapolation of the Christmas story from the Bible. Very good to read to remind us of the real meaning of the season. SUPER quick read. I read it in about 90 minutes. As I read it, it felt very familiar and "right" to me... the details were well thought out and character development was good. Having a longer version of the story in the Bible helps increase my faith and remind me that it's not just a story - it really happened. Christ the Lord was born and came to save us all.
UPDATE: I was privileged to meet the author of this book tonight (Dec. 17, 2011) at our Book Club meeting. You can tell that he has a great love of the Savior and the story of His birth. I'm glad that Tucker decided to share this story with the world.
I saw my former pediatrician at Costco having a book signing. I was surprised to find out he was an author besides (as well as a lawyer!). I decided that since I knew him I would go ahead and buy his book. I started reading it aloud to my children, but the vocabulary was way above their understanding. I ended up finishing it up on my own. It was a fun short read and I always enjoy reading Christmas stories, especially THE Christmas story in December.
This is a re-telling of Christ's birth. It tells the story of a beggar boy that was with the Shepherd's when the angels came. In the end the boy not only sees Christ, but guides the Wise Men. He also gives his most precious position to the baby. It was a sweet story, told from a different perspective.
Just won a copy through FirstReads! *** Sweet story of an orphaned shepherd boy who wants to give the greatest gift he can to the Christ child. A little predictable, but most Christmas stories are, aren't they?
This was a cute story. And while I wanted Jeshua to give the other gift to Jesus, I understand why the author did it - I just thought it cheapened all the work that the boy put into it.
The writing was a little repetitive and awkward, but it was still an interesting story.
It was a cute story focused on the birth of the savior. Short easy read, you can finish in an hour. Great way to refocus what's the holiday season is about. I think I will have my kids read it too.
