The author describes a year spent in Barcelona and discusses Spain's historic relationship with Jews, the country's attitudes about sex, and the city's preparations for the Olympics
This was a nice, simple travelogue -- the author's experiences in Barcelona and surrounding Catalunya used to illustrate a changing country. He focused on marginalized populations -- Jews, the GLBT community, and, to a lesser extent, women, -- to illustrate how Spain was transforming itself after the death of Franco. It may seem dated now, but it is a good glimpse of Barcelona in the 80s up to the 1992 Games. I'm a gay Jew who lived in Barcelona in 1984, and it rings very true.
