Rediscovering Your Happily Ever After: Moving from Hopeless to Hopeful as a Newly Divorced Mother

Rate this book
Mourning the loss of a marriage and facing life as a single mother is not something any married woman thinks will happen to her. But with more than half of all marriages ending in divorce and more than 9.8 million single mothers currently residing in the United States, this is becoming a reality for too many women. What happens then? What’s the next step? How is a woman supposed to put her world back together and provide an encouraging environment for the kids when her own life―and heart―are breaking? Writing with the empathy of someone who has seen and survived divorce, PeggySue Wells offers a practical and encouraging resource for the newly divorced woman. With inspiring Scripture passages, light humor, and sage advice, Rediscovering Your Happily Ever After gives vital steps to reestablish emotional and spiritual health―and nurture children at the same time. Whether she asked for this new life or not, each reader will learn how to move forward by replacing old patterns with new habits that bring hope, adventure, and significance. Countless books teach readers how to save a broken marriage, others explain how to travel through a divorce, but few―if any―speak directly to the single mom whose life is defined by and lived for her children. Being a mom during difficult times such as these is not easy, admits Wells, but with a little hope and trust in God, women can rewrite their fairy-tale ending and discover a new happily-ever-after.

I recieved this book as a first-reads win. My first thought was, when did I enter this giveaway? Not to sound ungrateful, but I really do not remember doing so. This is a non-fiction Christian driven self-help book. I can think of no other book description which would typicaly have me running in the opposite direction. But, since I was sent a copy and have recently experienced the majority of what is mentioned in the book, I decided to read.

I was more than pleasantly surprised. The book is very well-written. It is realistic, practical, and useful. The feeling within, the back-stories, how the author connects with the reader, everything ties together nicely and in a sincere manner, which I appreciated.

I think that anyone going through a separation could benefit from this book at least a little, though this is targeted towards women with children, women who are now the sole provider and care giver for those children.

This is a positive book, something which will give strength to women who probably need more than a double dose at a particular time in their lives. I barely believe I am saying this about a self-help book but this is highly recommended.

There are many books out there regarding how to move on with life after divorce. There are many books are dating after divorce, raising children after divorce, and financial advise after a divorce. What is rare is someone being open and raw about divorce.

What about being single again when it was the norm to associate as a couple? What about your friends viewing differently because you are not "Mrs. X"? What about your church judging you because of divorce?

That is where this book goes. Through the book, Ms. Wells gives her struggle, emotions, and heart after her divorce. She also details how she began the process of healing in various areas: emotions, friends, finances, family, and God. A very organic book on a very difficult subject.

Just started this book tonight. Tho, I am not newly divorced, I am divorced. However, what I have read really hits home. Describes very well the feelings I had at the time my ex left my children and I. I wish I would have had a copy of this back then. I am still working through some of my feelings and believe this book will help me immensely. Looking forward to finishing the book and healing...becoming a better woman and mom because of this book!! :)

I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway. The book is filled with positive suggestions, practical advice and tips and stories to help the newly divorced mother deal with the realities and difficulties of divorce and to move on. Peppered with poems, quotes and inspirational ideas, the book is truly supportive and encouraging. I read it from the viewpoint of a son with a divorced mother. I sure wish I could travel back in time and give this to my mom those many years ago. Wells also uses clever 'Look Back'/'Move Ahead' exercises to do both while preventing you getting stuck in a rut, unable to move on. Much of the book is written from a biblical, Christian perspective, but if you practice a different religion or are non-religious don't eliminate this great book from your choices. Her advice is sound, supportive and personal. I think any newly divorced mother would greatly benefit from reading this book.

This book was such a spiritual journey, but it was also a very practical guide for the newly divorced mother. I found many of the lessons applicable to everyone who has experienced loss. Great read for women, gives them hope and encouragement to make a good life for themselves and their children. The chapter on financial freedom is especially helpful to women who have never managed their finances alone.

I've never been married so obviously never divorced but with that said I got so much out of this book! I think this book is a wonderful blessing for anyone in a not so great relationship. I just substituted my bad relationship for the divorce reference in the book. This is a very eye opening and moving book!
