This book is by the same author who perpetrated "The Hoax of a Lifetime". "Girls Will Be Girls" is, if possible, even more bonkers than "The Hoax of a Lifetime". It has a sadistic, tyrannical, and probably insane acting headmistress, a bunch of Fourth Formers who decide to go on strike against her (there are, apparently, no other pupils in the school at all) and barricade themselves into one of the school buildings...there is sleepy gas, and daring rescues, and gloating of the insane "ha! ha!" variety, and a battering ram, and rotten potatoes, and finally, a particularly nitwitted girl who sets the "fortress" building on fire so competently that the entire building is a mass of flames within about 3 minutes (with some of Our Heroines inside, naturally). It is the kind of book that you read in stunned disbelief, wondering just how much madder it can get. I loved it.
