Very interesting method of doing food storage. I don't think my family would like canned food all the time however the author does a lot of her own canning for the bag meals so I'm sure that would taste much better than the canned food from the store. I can see how it would be great to have a few weeks worth of these on the shelf in case of emergency, a day when you haven't thought about dinner or to take dinner to a friend.

Super great ideas, until I read the recipes. I tried one and it was good, but I am not really in a place to can all my own meat and butter at this point. And what's the point of doing the bag thing unless you are going to do it all the way? Maybe someday I will be ambitious enough to can my own meat...and then we'll see what comes of it!

Fun and different look at organizing and building your Food Storage. Loved how organized this would make for actually having meals ready in the need instead of trying to throw a meal together with misc items. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, but I'm very curious and excited to try some and look into this further.

Maybe they should have called this book "It's from a can". The recipes are mostly composed of canned and dehydrated ingredients - which is great for camping and preparedness, but they portray it as everyday living and eating ... and I want more fresh ingredients than that.

Very informative book on making lots of ready to make meals. Interesting not sure how I feel about so many canned goods. But does make sense if prepping for an emergency.

Storing complete meals in a bag is a great concept. I enjoyed reading the authors process of determining which meals to store and the 100 recipes they have converted to use in this system. The recipes are quick and easy. The additional instructions for canning etc. are easy to follow. The authors use this system to store food for an entire year. I plan to use this system to store a 3 month supply and will continue to work on storing 1 years worth of wheat and other long term storage items. I think including a dessert of some sort would be a nice addition. Especially if we had to use these meals exclusively. This book has inspired me to look at my own recipes and find ways to convert them for use in this system. As I do not live in Utah, finding the dried ingredients will be more difficult. I plan to dehydrate some myself and purchase through Honeyville Farms which ships any size order for $4.49.
Overall, this is a great book. I highly recommend it for anyone just starting out and those who need some new inspiration.

I saw a demonstration on this food storage method (at a library in the Salt Lake County Library System), by Michelle and Trent Snow, the authors of the book. So far it looks very simple to organize and cook, but there is some home canning to do of meats, which she will offer education on through local classes coming this fall, I believe. You need to contact her through her website, and I believe she will send you emails. I also believe you can get the bags through her, but don't quote me. At least she knows how to get them at discount prices. She also said that properly canned meat tastes very good. I had told her that I didn't like some canned meat, and she said that there is a way to do it so it will taste really good.

This is a new approach to food storage. I'll have to see if I can implement it in our 3 month storage. She has all of her food storage in meals, in bags, ready to go. I can see doing this for a 3 month storage of meals, but I still think you need bulk storage items and pantry items in bulk too. This is an easy way to see if you have everything for a balanced meal though, and a good idea for a 72 hour kit.

What a great way to do food storage! I have being incorporating this system for about six months and we absolutely love it. I didn't give this book five stars because some of the recipes are not very good, but some are great. You can also adapt some of your favorites to use in this system. It has also gotten me into canning which is awesome.

I also attended a demostation by the author which really won me over. My family likes quite a few of the meals and I like the information at the end of the book as well. I like that in an emergency or if a parent isn't home to supervise with meals, the kids can still make a filling meal!

Love it! Love it!! Love it!!! It's so much simpler when you don't have all that money to buy cans and cans and cans of "food storage". So this is what we're working on right now, in addition to adding fresh foods when we make an "it's in the bag" meal.

I love this concept for food storage and ready-to-make meals. It has made it so easy to come home from work and have all of the ingredients ready for me.
