Lazarus Stone has been killed, resurrected, and attacked by demons. He's all that stands between our world and the Dead. But things are getting he's alone in the land ofthe Dead, his best mate Craig is missing, and he's no idea who - or what - tricked his dad into trying to bring back his long-dead mum. Oh, and he's wearing a corpse's clothes. Life, he might think, couldn't get much worse. But it will...
So, I love the world of the dead. Something about inverse worlds are always cool to me. But I like how crazy powerful Lazarus has become especially with his weapon. The first half is absolutely awesome! However, the second act kinda drags. Which isn’t bad, but after the epic climax and fights we got, it kinda sucked that we were stuck with a car ride. But as soon as they hit their destination, we do have another amazing climax and revelation! I will admit that I wish there were more than three books because I can see this being expanded on. But since it’s so fast paced, I guess we could end in three. But I am looking forward to the next book!
as soon as i finished the first book in this series, The Dead, i ordered the next two books, because I just had to read them as soon as possible.
This book did not dissappoint! Just as creepy and unnerving as the first book, The Dark takes us further into the horrifying world of the Dead. In trying to rescue his dad from the Dead, Lazarus and his best friend are pulled into their world, Lazarus fails to save his father, who is taken by the Dead for their own horrible plans. The book centres around trying to find Abbaddon, a mysterious man with a horrific past, who Red tells Lazarus, can help them fight the Dark.
I just love how creepy this series is, often young adult horror skips around the horror aspect, trying not to make things to horrible, but this book hits a perfect note of horror, humour and suspense.
I sat up late to finish reading it, and went straight onto the 3rd and final book, the Damned, and can't wait to read it too!
highly recommended, but only if you've read The Dead first.
This is the second book of “The Dead” series. The first book was great – filled with non-stop action, gore and suspense. I really enjoyed it.
However, the second book was nothing in comparison. It seemed to go in circles. It was repetitive and I found the main character to be beyond annoying. I just wanted to thump him and demand he pull himself together and DO something instead of complaining all the time.
It felt as if the author was writing from the seat of his pants and didn’t know where to go next and gathered the characters together so they could chat for a while until he worked it out. The first time it happened, I was okay with it, but the second time I wasn’t so forgiving, and all the times after that was just plain irritating. The ‘chats’ discussed the same things over and over and over again.
I was over it! And, unfortunately, this and the main character’s reaction tore me out of the zone and I had no reason or inclination to get back into the story. It was hard work reaching the end of the book after that happened.
I have the third book but, at this stage, I'm not sure if I'll read it.
Full of suspense, supernatural and heart stopping action, this book is packed with gore, intensity and loyalty. Lazarus's is in the land of the dead looking for Craig who was thrown through the veil, there he meets an old [friend?] and learns some shocking truths. This is a fantastic book and in admire Craig and Lazarus united friendship throughout
