Only the men of the Second Fleet survive when their world is destroyed by the Lasc Prein, and Tangus, Commander of the rag tag band of men, is determined to see that the Seti survive as a race. To that end, he purchases the golden skinned woman he calls Asha, intending her to be the first of many breeders acquired for the propagation of their species. Unfortunately, the more he samples the wares, the less inclined he is to share.

She has several University degrees, ranging from Computer Science to International Politics, is an avid reader of military history and tactics, and writes in several genres, from space opera to romance to fantasy. She has visited, lived and/or worked on four continents and hopes to make it all seven in the future.
Kaz is Chief Editor of Sci-Fi Romance Quarterly and she and her husband run Sandal Press. In all honesty I expected worst from the book base on the cover and am sorry for that. I guess you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover. While this was better than the other book I had read. I did enjoy reading their story though I do want to knock some sense into Tangus at times. I know that his ideas were noble and was thinking for the whole of Secti and his rebuttals about making Asha as a breeder and refusing to take her for his own woman because of how his men would react. I also find it too good to be true on how Asha bring all the solution to their problem in the end. Pretty much unbelievable considering her status but this is a fictional story so we could leave it at that.
I do recommend it to to anyone who like erotica sci-fi stories. I do find it amusing that even though Asha became a slave she didn't lose her sense of her own self. Reading through the book you can sense her intellect and her status in her (I guess that might be because of how Tangus describes their difference at times). I also like reading the vulnerability of the hero which is somewhat refreshing to read.
it was ok,cheesy as usually is the case, but ok. I can'it help to think how she would react if he was even a little bit ugly and not a walking sex stick. Ahh realism who needs it.
fairly short read, but entertaining and cute (mostly).
this novella suffers from: instantaneous love, a cliché tormented hero, and a weak plot outside of romance. but i mean, it’s erotica. not really flabbergasting.
however, neither protagonists were annoying. i really liked asha — she wasn’t irritating with the overused “i’m feisty and independent and, by the way, did you see how cool i was? i’m so cool and quirky and lovable” or the “woe is me, i’ve been through so much & i don’t deserve this kind of hard life, someone rescue me before i swoon” heroine persona. she stood her ground without being an arrogant asshole about it. with that being said, there is somewhat of a master/slave relationship going on, so obviously she’s fairly submissive towards tangus.
tangus is a big broody alfalfa male, but with a (skewed) moral compass and a propensity towards doing what’s ‘right’ for the greater good. (also, his name is tangus. i get that these are aliens, but what a name. for some reason i kept thinking of him as either tangy or angus, and sometimes, i imagined him as a tangy angus beef patty. that generally sums him up: a spicy piece of meat. not to objectify him, or anything. he has layers too. like onions. i’ll stop making food comparisons.)
lastly, the romance was great. i think the insta-love complimented their type of relationship. the sex involved wrist binds. it wasn’t completely raunchy, and it was definitely over pretty quick, but i can appreciate some soft- to medium-core dominance in the bedroom.
THIS HAD A HUGE POTENTIAL TO BE AN INTERESTING NOVEL, alas it's a smutty novella. The ending while good, was horribly short-lived, I felt like I never experienced closure. I wanted, no demand for an epilogue!!
Some might argue that the heroine could be a bit of a doormat, but not in a bad way. She's a submissive woman, and yet not. Throughout the story she was "taken advantage" of in a way, depends on how you see it because she lost her memory, was captured and sold off like cattle. Even if the MMC was the one who bought her, well....she was still a sex slave.
I don't even know if I should slap a dub-con label on this, although the heroine DID enjoy doing the dirty...I don't know, this was good if you just turn off your brain and enjoy the feelings, but if you start rationalizing everything, you're just asking for it.
I read this book when it first was published, several years ago. It was practically my first introduction to alien sci-fi. I kept it to read again. I am glad that I did. I was hoping for more books by the author, but non appeared. I rated this book a five. First, I adore Sci-Fi alien romances. 2. The hero, at least on the cover is dreamy looking. 3. The story-line is pretty good. a race of men is doomed if they cannot find a way to capture compatible females. Asha, of course, is not up to volunteering for this project, those she would not mind being Tangus's sole lover.
He treats her roughly at first, in line with her being a purchased slave, but that soon changes. His race, the Seti are down to about four thousand males for their entire species. What ends would we go to to survive? Their sexual encounters are less aggressive and more loving as time progresses, though Tangus, feels guilty about his desire to have her solely for himself, when he is the leader of the remnant of hi people. Asha suffers from amnesia after her ship crash landed and does not even remember her name.
If you love Sci-Fi romances, I recommend this one to you. It is one of the early ones. Since that time they have proliferated and the genre has matured, but this one still remain a very good story with a HEA.
For an erotic sci-fi short story (90+ pages), this was really well rounded. The story gave enough that you liked the characters. As with most short stories, there were a few loose ends that didn't get tied up and I thought there could be more to the ending, but all-in-all, well done. I'm definitely keeping this one for my "read it again" pile.
Everything you should expect in a short erotica story....nothing but sex with a little S&M and an okay plot that ends on a happy if not corny and sappy note.
