Primarily designed to help visual art students make the transition from art school to their own practice, THE PRACTICAL HANDBOOK FOR THE EMERGING ARTIST is also an excellent resource for practicing artists. This ENHANCED SECOND EDITION continues to focus on all aspects of the emerging artist's career-studio practice, including developing ties in the art world, documenting work, making digital images, exhibiting art, writing about art, taking on curatorial responsibilities, addressing financial and legal concerns, and attending graduate school, with added emphasis on art in the digital age. The text demonstrates how students can make things happen for their careers, in addition to helping them find and approach already-existing outlets for their work.Kindle textbooks are functionally equivalent to the print textbook. In some cases, individual items such as ancillary images or multimedia have been removed for digital delivery due to rights restrictions.
Author Margaret R. Lazzari provided a true handbook for artists, whether they be new in the field or a seasoned professional. The book is divided into 5 sections which are easy to navigate. I breezed through the "Groundwork" chapter and found the second "Getting Your Work Out & Seen" of much interest. Documentation, proposals and exhibitions were discussed. Every artist is interested in expanding who sees their work. The part I most appreciated was the "Financial Concerns" which included commissions, organizations and corporate support. This book answered any question previously pondered and many I had not considered. Any artist or craftsman would do well to keep this book on their shelf for reference. Highly recommended.
