Lesbian Lumberjack

Rate this book
One lumberjack. One runaway woman. One big, fat mess.

Jordan has spent her entire life being bigger, stronger, and more muscular than her three lumberjack brothers. Slated to inherit her father's lumber mill upon his retirement next month, she decides to tour some of his properties to get a feel for the land. When a freak snowstorm hits in the middle of October, she's forced to spend the weekend holed up in one of his rustic cabins.

But she's not alone.

Clara isn't good at very much, but she's good at running away. That's why she's in the woods, after all - to escape her family's tainted legacy and to get away from the man who's trying to destroy her entire world. When a snowstorm hits unexpectedly, she seeks refuge at the first shelter she finds - a small, cozy would-be hunting cabin.

Only, the cabin is already occupied.

Jordan and Clara have no choice but to spend the weekend riding out the storm together, but when sparks start to fly, it seems like the lumberjack and the princess have more in common than they think.

Their bodies might be able to survive the snowstorm, but can their hearts weather the weekend?

This is a sapphic, forced proximity romance featuring lesbian lumberjacks and secret billionaires.

Jordan, butch lumberjack with a heart of gold poised to assume control of the family business. Clara sweet femme on the run from her family. An accidental meeting at a cabin in the woods and one hot weekend but is that enough for a HEA?
Good outline but I needed more to the plot.

This was okay. It started off kinda fun, with all of its obvious tropey-ness: huge butch lumberjane with a heart of gold, a pretty femme on the run from some unspoken danger, snowed in together at a cabin. All very simplistic, but very fun. And honestly, I think I'd have ended up liking this more if it just stuck to being tropey and steamy. The more we got into the plot, the more I could see how thin and obvious and not very well-constructed it was. It started to get kinda annoying, just how flat all the side-characters were, and how slipshod the plot was. Everything was easy to figure out. I wasn't mad at that, but at how basic and badly-written it was. This moved from a cute, spicy 3 stars to an irritating 2 stars. Pity, because it's not terrible or anything.

(Also, a little weird to call the book 'Lesbian Lumberjack' when the titular character talks about how she doesn't really like applying the word lesbian to herself, because of how it was used to bully her as a child. Which is totally understandable. So then like, why call the book that? Lol.)

Kindle Unlimited.

Really loved the premise of the more masc and broad lumberjack lady helping out a cute curvy femme on the run; who is in a bit of trouble and has secrets.

However there were a lot of cringe elements with the story choices, here.

I really just wanted more substance and depth.

Their meeting was like something out of a fairy tale. Jordan never thought the woman of her dreams would walk into her life in the middle of a snowstorm. Clara is running away from her family that she thinks is trying to kill her. It kind of reminds me of Snow White and Cinderella put together. Jordan and Clara fall madly in love and share a burning passion. Super hot scenes.

Kinda cute maybe? But I definitely need more to give it a higher rating. Fast paced wow novella with a weak plot and flat characters. The whole wedding thing could have been a fun plot device if it was explored more and made the book longer

This was one of the books I snagged in the Kindle event... it was not for me.. like the spice and consent and game etc was sweet, but the characters had no voice of their own and everything felt rushed, there was no build up or tension...and then the random plot with triplets and embezzlement was just plain weird.

Cute but...needed more.

This wlw fast-paced novella suffered from plot issues and flat antagonists, distracting from the story. I get it, it's a romance novel—romances like to keep it simple—but simple and flat are two different things. The motivations of Clara's family are never quite clear, and plot details like are never put into context of what was actually going on:

Anywho, moving along.

I did find both Clara and Jordan endearing, as little of them as we really are allowed to see in this story. I wish there had more room to breathe and develop with fewer nonsensical plot elements in this one.

And other than alliteration, why the choice of Lesbian in the title if our Lumberjack goes into the reason why she loathes that word and does not use it for herself in the actual text? Rubbed me the wrong way.

*sigh* I really wanted to like this more. I mean with this title, and promise of “trapped 1 bed situation” I was totally down to revel in the shallowness. The problem was the introduction of an attempt at a plot. One of the mains, the non-lumberjack “damsel in distress”, her father and sisters are trying to kill her for money but her father is a billionaire? What in the tellanova delusion is this? Also, knit: I don’t think people realize how much a billion dollars actually is. There are approximately 2750 billionaires in the entire world. The likelihood of just bumping into one is slim. Just say multi millionaire - we get the picture. I picked this up for free during the stuff your kindle event.

This was a really cute story of two lesbians with dysfunctional families that hook up during a snowstorm and fall in love. At less than 200 pages it’s definitely more of a novella than a full-fledged book and it’s super insta-lovey but it was cozy and comforting on a day when I needed it.
There’s a weird sister-wives situation subplot but it doesn’t come to fruition and Jordan’s brothers are nice but also dumb.
There is a great steamy scene that will make you reconsider the most practical uses for a hairbrush. 😳 also the most relatable line to have ever been written:
“The hardest part about being queer is that girls are scary.”

Lesbian Lumberjack is an Adult Romance Novella.

{One lumberjack. One runaway. One giant mess}

This is a short read with many elements I enjoyed. Snowed in? Cabin setting? Secret billionaire? Fun! But I struggled with a couple things. I found the exposition very repetitive. And I know in quick reads like this, there needs to be suspension of disbelief, yet this required way more than I was able to give.

But just because this wasn’t for me doesn’t mean it won’t be for you!

This was a free "stuff your kindle" book I got quite a while ago. I started it last week because I needed a small book to get back on track with my reading goal pace this year lol. This read was cute, albeit a little cringey at the start. Unsure if I'll continue the series, but it's always nice to have queer women as the leads!

grabbed this for stuff your kindle day and honestly it was better than i though it'd be!! 3.5 rounded up bc it's nye and i'm feeling generous :)

the central romance is sweet and the spicy moments are well-done. it was quite instalove-y, but the time jump to tie up the family conflicts gave the romance a bit more room to breathe and be a tad more believable. i saw the plot twist regarding the brothers coming from a mile away, but it was still a fun time and added some interest to the story, especially since it's a continuing series (and yes, i picked book #2 up during the most recent sykd). the plot overall was fairly thin, but simple enough that i could let it fall to the wayside and focus on the romance.

i also really appreciated the discussions of lesbian issues in the queer community. things like having trauma regarding the word "lesbian," being perceived as cold and tough bc you're masculine, having one out partner and one closeted partner...they're all briefly mentioned, but i'm really glad they're there in such a short novella. these feelings can be pretty isolating if you don't have a wide queer community around you, and i'm glad the novella sheds some light on them and connects with readers in that way.

overall, nothing too groundbreaking, but an enjoyable experience that will hopefully be replicated in future installments!

I think this story needed a lot more space to really be given justice. Clara & Jordan's romance was a tad rushed but in a way that's excusable for a forced proximity romance - quick feelings are a part of the trope. Plus they were cute together.

The whole triplet wedding and embezzlement thing tho was just wild. That could be a interesting story if it was fleshed out a lot more and if the characters involved in that had more page time. Instead it was an odd sideplot to a romance. It just kind of felt forced and contrived - like yes in fiction you can do things like have two people meet and learn they each have younger siblings who are dating each other but when it's don't so quickly as in this story,,,, it just feels made up and takes away from the central story, the romance between Clara & Jordan.

But it was a quick, easy, relatively fun read. So I'd recommend as a story for when you don't want to think too much.

This mini-review is part of a list featuring books we picked up solely because of the title that can be read in full at The Smut Report

Jordan has triplet brothers, but she’s the one who runs the lumber mill, and the household, and really everything rests comfortably on her broad shoulders. Clara is running away from home because her triplet sisters are the worst and she’s pretty sure someone in her family is trying to kill her. When they get snowed in in a cabin on Jordan’s family’s land, sparks fly. And fly. And fly. The book starts with lots of sexytimes, and ends with some mysterious shenanigans.

45% DNF

Every chapter is very short and ends on unnecessary cliff-hangers, and it feels very repetitive - almost like this book was meant to be read as one chapter a day/week update, and needed to keep the audience coming back, and repeating stuff often to make sure they didn't forget previous instalments from weeks past. I'm not sure if that was how this story was originally written, but it just felt like that to me.

Also a lot of "most people think that" or "people have the idea that", and it just felt like maybe these characters (or the author) need to stop caring what other people think so much.

I could have probably kept reading this instead of DNFing - it is quite short, after all - but I found myself avoiding picking up my Kindle and instead scrolling mindlessly through TikTok instead, and I always try to prevent doing that.

This was cute but not amazing for me.
I really liked Jordan and Clara, and their U-Haul relationship that you can expect from a Sapphic novella.

But, there were references to FF relationship stereotypes that took me out of the story - like a history of saying that people judge masc for masc. Or one of them freaking out about being called a lesbian because it was an insult in school the same way gay was. It made me question if the book was written for straight people and we're doing some educating.

Also, the plot line was very rushed. Honestly if the education was done differently, I think this story could have been longer. There was so much opportunity for a juicy plot. But, novellas are good to read every now and then.

I found the characters very different, but also the same. Jordan is a tall and muscular girl. And there's a lumberjack. I found that this proximity romance. It was very good. Jordan gets snowbound in the cabin on her father's property. And she meets Clara, who is out in the snow because her car broke down. Clara is a femme type girl than Jordan. But she has drawn to her. I found the plot very interesting and then had many twists and turns in it. I recommend this book for all those readers who like proximity romance.

Being under the impression this was erotica, I was disappointed we didn't get more of just that. The scenes that did have spice were short lived and lackluster. I liked the idea of the plot, but in the end it felt anticlimactic. I probably would have rated this a bit higher but a few issues ruined the enjoyment of the story. This was butch/femme, and when I'm promised a butch/masc character, I expect just that. So when I read the butch was wearing a camisole and panties, well, that just ruined it for me.

Not bad, but please take in account that a majority of butch lesbians don't wear feminine apparel or liked to be called a "lady".

When our heroines are caught in a snowstorm together, they get an unexpected opportunity to get to know each other. Turns out they have a lot to talk about.

This is a short FF romance with a forced proximity theme to it. The story is well written and easy to read, with a small but delightful cast. I really enjoyed both of our heroines and watching them explore new ground. We also get a HEA, which makes it all the better. Overall, it was a fun read and definitely worth the time.

Highly recommended.

The bulk of this book takes place over a weekend, so there's your standard instalove snowed in situation. I did enjoy the story, and it's definitely sexy, but I think the plot surrounding Clara's family and Jordan's brothers was big enough that it would have benefitted from more fleshing out and page time (which would have taken this from a novella to a novel). I also got the next book in the series, so I'll probably continue, only now with the more clear expectation not to expect a ton of narrative depth.

+1 star for the great idea but the way everything else was executed was just not my cup of tea. i’m sure that people who are around the characters’ age would eat this book up but i absolutely didn’t. it was written well though, i don’t have anything bad to say about it. i just really didn’t like it since it just got too cringey and rushed for me, and also i’m not really into mascs either, basically just personal reasons. loved the drama element!

Family Business

Jordan is about to. Take over her father’s lumber mill while her brothers get other businesses. When she trapped in one of their rental cabins and a woman shows up she finds herself falling for Clara. Their relationship sizzles out an erotic romance begins. An engaging story with a fast paced romance.

I have no idea how to rate this. It was better than I hoped for, I was entertained and it was also terrible in so many ways. Is this how this genre is supposed to be or is this one just particularly bad. Is it a fair try or is it written ironically. Or is it just not my cup of tea while some parts were hilarious 🤷‍♀️

3.5 ⭐

Even with Clara's continuous back and forth thinking about her dad or her sisters having sabotaged her car, I still liked this story. Would I revisit this story? It's possible, but I am happy to know that I do own it in the event I revisit. Interested in seeing how the rest of the series goes.

I really wanted to enjoy this one! It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either 🤦🏻
I’m all here for a short instalove story with lots of spice but it just felt lacking and very repetitive.

It’s written in first person with 2x POV’s. Masc/Femme, Instalove, Forced Proximity, Snowed In/Stranded, One Bed. 3x Spicy Scenes.

Stranded at a Cabin in a Snowstorm

Proximity and a snowstorm lead to romance in this quick read about a female lumberjack and a young woman on the run from a family who wants to kill her.
