Heaven's Dark Soldiers: Books 1-3

Rate this book
There is an evil in the world of man. It's been here since the beginning. Hidden within the fabric of our very existence, festering through generation upon generation. Manipulating. Corrupting. Evolving. Closer than you could ever imagine.

Conversely, there are those of us who maintain the Balance. This is how it began. For me, the tale started at the end.

*This boxset includes the first three books in Steve Gilmore's Heaven's Dark Soldiers series.*

Rise of the Giants
Angels and giants and beasties. Oh my…

Dean Robinson used to be a soldier.

That is, until a fallen angel with a God complex and a snappy wardrobe killed him.

Now he is something else.

Not quite an angel but no longer human, Dean is thrust into the prophetic pinnacle of a timeless battle raging in the shadows of the Earth and the Heavens.

He and his newfound gang of arcane sidekicks might be the only thing standing between mankind and an incursion of otherworldly giants.

No pressure…

Semi-divine super soldiers, supersized bad guys on high protein diets, a Heavenly grudge match played out on an Earthly stage – Just another day at the office apparently.

Wrath of the Fallen
The giants have risen. And the Devil’s in the details.

Dean Robinson is having a bad day. Like a really bad day.

And for the last member of a clandestine group of semi-divine super soldiers blessed and cursed with the wrath of God — bad days have a certain apocalyptic flare to them.

How bad exactly?

Well, he already failed to stop the prophesied resurgence of the Nephilim giants.

Now, Dean and his otherworldly cohorts from the Seventh Realm must watch in horror as their mammoth adversaries wreak unprecedented mayhem on the world around them.

His mission is impossible, riddled with mind warping beasties, overzealous celestial uber beings, surreal bounty hunters, and no shortage of unnatural drinking establishments.

As Dean races to find the one thing that can stop the coming apocalypse, he learns that the answer to saving the future is, in fact, lurking in the past.

Of course it is…

Rage of the Heavens
It’s the end of the world as we know it. And Dean Robinson feels fine.

Dean Robinson, Seventh Deacon of the Seventh Line, made a deal with the Devil. Literally.

In his defense, it was the only way to avoid apocalyptic fallout.

And it backfired. Spectacularly.

Now, Lucifer has freed the Fallen Watchers from their eternal bonds in the depths of Tartarus and sent legions of man-eating Nephilim giants on a global binge fest.

Not exactly Dean’s best day.

The Heavens are ablaze as Lucifer and his cronies slug it out with the archangels.

Dean and the team must scramble to prevent the ensuing Book of Revelations quality maelstrom from smacking headlong into the Earth.

Piece of cake…

Heaven's Dark Soldiers
Books 1-3
By Steve Gilmore

Rise of the Giants
Not sure what I expected but this was incredible! A soldier, Dean, has visions and the doctor comes to listen to his new visions in the war-torn areas during battle. The doc knows Dean is the new Deacon who is prophesied. Dean dies in battle with a fallen angel but Dean doesn't stay dead. He is given the powers of the Deacon. He will be a soldier for god, someone to keep the balance.
There are lots of great characters, wonderful battles, giants, besties, angels, Nephilim, and I love the many shape-shifting capabilities!

Wrath of the Fallen
This is book #2 in the series. The war between good and bad, heaven and hell, and the twists and turns are many! There are traitors and those compromised, it is hard to know who to trust.
Tons of action, interesting new characters, friendly old characters, time travel, exciting situations, great plot, and even more humor and wit than book one! Funny dialogue is scattered throughout!

Rage of the Heavens
This is the 3rd book in the series and the most twisted and exciting one so far! Everything comes to a head, plans and traitors are revealed. Adrenaline oozes off the pages! Terrific! Witty! Action-packed, great fantasy, love the characters, and plot! Enjoyed it from start to finish! The books just get better!

Great read

I Loved these books. Great way to get out of my head it's ugly in there. I loved literally LOL'ing. The crew of characters are just so good. Again if you decide to do the audio with reading like I do. It made it even better. There are some books you should read instead of listen. Like you can see the story is good but something about the narrator just does not do the story justice. DEFINITELY not in this case. He made me laugh even more I think. He is really REALLY good. Great books, great narrator can't ask for more. I can't even say full cast would make it better. Anyways I am off to go search for more from this author AND Narrator.

Review of Heaven’s Dark Soldiers Boxset 1 by Steve Gilmore
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Angels, giants, beasties, and a dead soldier turned divine misfit? Yeah, I was hooked from the first page.

Steve Gilmore’s Heaven’s Dark Soldiers series is like mixing Supernatural, Constantine, and a bit of The Expanse, then lighting it on fire and handing it a sword. This box set (Books 1–3) takes you on a fast-paced, wild ride through celestial warfare, shadowy realms, and the very shaky in-between where Dean Robinson now finds himself… post-death.

Dean is an instantly likable, sarcastic, reluctant hero. He's got grit, heart, and just enough snark to make you laugh even while the world’s imploding around him. After being killed by a fallen angel with serious style and god-level issues, Dean is reborn as something not quite human, not quite angelic. What follows is a gritty, myth-rich battle against apocalyptic forces that are way too big for any one man—but Dean, of course, doesn’t have a choice.

What I love about this box set is how Gilmore balances the epic with the personal. Sure, there are massive angelic battles, soul-ripping monsters, and ancient grudges. But there’s also a raw humanity to the characters, flawed, funny, loyal, and hurting. Dean’s gang of supernatural allies is fantastic, too. Each one adds depth, personality, and unexpected heart to the story.

The pacing is sharp, the world-building is both biblical and badass, and the stakes only get higher with each book. And while there’s a lot of action, there are also real themes about redemption, destiny, and what it means to fight for something bigger than yourself.

This is popcorn reading at its best: smart, thrilling, darkly funny, and incredibly addictive. If you love gritty urban fantasy with theological depth and a high body count, grab this box set. You won’t regret it. Just be ready to binge.
