Ramon Stoppelenburg
1 book3 followersRamon left a mark on the internet before it all got very big and social, has published several books in The Netherlands and moved to Cambodia in 2011, Georgia in 2021, ended up in Morocco in 2022 and now lives in Portugal. He does not settle easily.
He was the first ever digital nomad as he had his own social network already running in 2001. Others even called him the Godfather of Couchsurfing.
In 2018, the Dutch Royal Library designated the Letmestyaforaday.com website as UNESCO Digital Heritage, internationally recognized in the 2003 UNESCO Charter on the Preservation of the Digital Heritage.
In 2020, he was among the final 50 candidates out of a total of 2,400 applications for NASA’s astronaut candidate program. He didn’t make it to the final 24 candidates.
His day job as a Digital Nomad makes him being a writer, translator and business strategy consultant while running various little enterprises, like he did with three art house movie theaters in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, (from 2011 to 2021) or still does with Expedition Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
These varied experiences has turned him into an industry chameleon with a knack for teamwork, managing red tape, balancing opposing opinions, budget management and marketing planning.

Het boek zou moeten heten "Hoe je van mensen af kunt komen en gratis kunt blijven". Ramon is bij ons gebleven, hij is niet welkom terug. Ik moest het boek lezen om te zien of we werden genoemd, dat klopt, maar over het algemeen vond ik het boek vervelend en saai.

Wauw, het was heel gaaf om samen met Ramon de wereld over te reizen zonder te betalen en te zien hoe gastvrij mensen zijn van allerlei culturen. Af en toe was het wel een beetje eentonig: weer liften, weer een gesponsorde rit, maar het is wel de realiteit van hoe Ramon reisde.
Ramon laat ook zien dat niets onmogelijk is, iets wat ik erg inspirerend vind.
