This one wavers between a 2 and 3.
I tried to read a Penny Birch novel a year or so ago but never finished it so when this one came in for review I figured I’d give the author another shot. According to my 30 second web research, Penny Birch has written some 100 or so novels under various names. Wow, that’s quite a body of work! I’m guessing there are a lot of folks secretly reading these and refusing to admit it because the reviews were few and far between. After reading this one cover to cover strictly for review purposes (of course) I can understand why. These are fetish books and really only recommended for those amongst us who are into pleasure/pain/degradation/purely reading it for the smutastic-ness that it is. You won’t find a smidge of romance here but you will find lots of reddened cheeks and copious body fluids spurted upon young pretty flesh by old and/or ugly as sin men (as described by the author - don't blame me!).
Though I’ll read just about anything, I do need a whisper of a plot and at least one character I can latch on to. This book had neither and finishing it at times was a bit of chore. The author doesn’t waste time establishing any sort of meaningful relationships between her characters. It’s simply about the sex, the humiliation and the power plays. The setup goes something like this: a young woman’s evil stepmother to-be sends her away to some hotel somewhere frequented by horny people who like to use and abuse pretty young “maids”. Jemima is given a skimpy maid outfit and is forced to wait on and submit to the guest’s sexual whims. But don’t be feeling all sorry and weepy for Jemima, she thrives on the attention, the money the old lechers provide and she initiates quite a bit of the punishment and the sex. Spanking makes her wild and dirty sex helps her find her happy place.
Now I am not squeamish by any means but I could only read so many scenes of gross men and women defiling the young heroine over and over again before I started feeling really dirty and more than a little squicked out. At one point Jemima comes across two hot men and comments on how nice it would be to have sex with someone handsome for a change. As we go deeper into the heroine, eh story, the sex gets increasingly messier. I’m not talking about the leaking v's and p’s here folks, nor am I alluding to the usage of all three orifices (sometimes all at once), that stuff is almost vanilla here. What I’m talking is urine, snot, vomit and feces in all its graphic glory. That last one, I believe, is what did me in and had me reaching for the brain bleach. Maybe I am a wimp after all.
Ok, so as not to be known as Ms. Negativity I can honestly say this book does have some arousingly written scenes, especially earlier on before things got too gross for my personal comfort level. The author does a decent job of showing Jemima’s point of view and her craving for punishment and degradation and how it gives her a feeling of personal power. I never felt like Jemima was being used against her will, sure some of the nastier scenes got a little out of control but deep down she got off on it. I didn’t understand her or sympathize with her and I didn’t like her very much but hey I don’t think I was supposed to. This is a smutty fantasy (but not the paranormal kind) for those who like it extra dirty. If that’s your thing Penny Birch has plenty of books just for you. As for me? I think I need to go read something sweet and innocent about baby unicorns running through a meadow of wild flowers.

Five Amazing Massive Stars!!
Well Well Well this book is brilliant in all it's form and glory...
Jemima is a dirty filthy girl and I loved her for it, she knew what she wanted and she got what she wanted.
It's come to a point with me where I'm getting so bored of reading about virgin's who just walk into the whole spanking or BDSM scene that they are timid or scared or something like that...
I know it's not like your born submissive or anything, well for some it is, but when I read about Christian Grey I was shocked because everyone has kinks and I myself have always had a submissive bone in my body but until reading that book, I found that it open my eyes to a lot more and once you read 50 shades of grey then you have read them all!
My point to my little rant is that with this book and the reason why I gave it 5 stars was because here you have a chick who LOVES to be spanked and is not afraid of it, she doesn't act scared or runs away, unlike other books I was really happy that I read this because if she got called a slut or a whore it turned her on and some other books I've read this would make the chick cry or some shit but again I'm getting off track..
This book was great because she is a sexual human being and she doesn't care and I love that in a chick, to me she was bad arsed because yeah there might of been an incident with some shit but my god she took it as a pro, I'm not one for anything scat it is a major hard limit for me and with this book it was the funniness part, I couldn't stop laughing my arse of because there may or may not have been a time where someone was in the same boat *raised eyebrow* and they may or may not have made it to the toilet *chews nails* but anyway it was fucking funny as hell!!!
Right now to my most favourite part of the book....WATERSPORTS!!
This one scene was a beauty and even though the whole book is kinda...long in a way of everything is happing and there is so much to get in and...and... it was just long and I will get to that in a minute but the scene with the watersports, oh my god I felt like I was foaming at the mouth LMAO, It was just *takes deep breath and exhales on perfect* It was dirty and pure filth and any normal person would of cringe at it but with me I felt like my legs were gonna fall off because I had them clenched so freaking hard lol
And as to what I was saying a second ago, even though there was a story be hide all this sexy filth, it just felt like Penny Birch had so much to say and so little space because it felt like every page had sex on it and that's not bad but in this it kinda felt over done or as Lisa would about my cooking Burnt... and sometimes I finda felt a bit stupid because It was like this one is spanking this one and that one is spanking that one and it was all to much to take in when you have 30 plus members and what felt like a million names flying at me but I'm down with it all in the end *coughs because I had to re-read a few pages here and there*
This book has a lot of different kinks in it and I can say that this will not be my last Penny Birch book...

Good thing I took is as a loan, because I surely didn't enjoy it. It was really well written, but it was ONLY about spanking, and thats not my cup of tea.
Nothing dark, just kink. And its surely not a stand alone. Its a part of some series.

Okay, that may be a little extreme but not far off. I found this entire story incredibly frustrating. I thought this would be a fun little spanking novel. Instead it was about an out of control submissive who was taken advantage of by a series of increasingly loathsome characters. I really felt like she needed someone to take control over her life and find a way at best to get her to make better decisions or at worst take her ability to make bad decisions away. Unfortunately, there wasn't a character in the story to do that. The fact that Jemima was only there because her father was lied to by his girlfriend only made it that much worse.
I may read some more Penny Birch novels someday but definitely not this year.

I thought this was a fun spanking novel and instead it was a story of really selfish, stubborn and frustrating people who get off on treating people terribly. There were some spanking scenes but there was also watersports, which isn't really my thing.
I need care about at least one character in a story and I didn't at all in this one. Every single character was playing a messed up game that led to more messed up situations.
Not sure u would recommend this unless you're comfortable with some of the situations in the book. They turned me off...oh well.

Poor Jemima...for some reason I kept reading this book thinking that she would grow up or someone would save her from her own stupidity. There was some definite hot kink, but for me too much spanking and chic sex.

I've never read a spanking book before. This one was quite the intrduction to that genre!
I had trouble with this story. There were parts that crossed over a line for me and I just couldn't enjoy those scenes.

I thought this book was ok for its content. It was fetish smut, but well written. It kind of lost my attention half way through as it was the same story over and over.

Degrading and Hot!
Not sure what to think of Jemima, Penny, Pippa and the whole Morris clan, the games had me hold my breath especially the hunting game. You get what you ask for (in a way :)). Jemima thoroughly enjoyed her year - was it a year or a few summer months?- off from school and even tough she had doubts occasionally.
I am happy in a way to what happened to Danielle, well deserved. Gold diggers are not my thing then again in a way I felt she was set up by Mr Morris.
This is major taboo for me, between siblings, unties and mum.
The spankings done correctly with a happy ending where hot.
