9 volumes is just not enough for a series. We're over halfway and I feel like we're still just sort of chugging along.
Jayden and Chazz finish up their duel in which the winner will take on Zane the big champion. Reggie decides to have a shadow game with Hibiki and not reveal how Koyo went into a coma. Jayden is appalled and vows revenge.

The dueling is cool enough but I'm tired of the same combos being reused over and over. The plot is just...there. Not really progressing too much or adding to an over-arching story. There are another group of people on their way but only 4 more volumes left for the series.

GX Vol. 5 sees Chazz and Jaden finish their duel that was begun at the end of the previous collection. While Ms. Hibiki and Reggie from America engage in a shadow game. Jaden and Chazz's duel has plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing who the winner will be. While the Hibiki-Reggie duel focuses more on the stakes of a shadow game while they discuss what it is that the American students are after. And what they had to do with her brother's condition. The art in this series looks great. Particularly the light vs dark aspects of the latter's duel. GX keeps on delivering.

It is kind of shocking to see Chazz actually beat Jaden in this duel but the duel was still pretty good and we also get another pretty cool duel between Midori and Reggie as well seeing that some of the characters who appeared later in the Anime are going to show up like Aster and Jim.

This is my second choice book. This book is about the second and third best students in duel academy; they are Jaden and Chazz. Jaden is in the group called Slyfer Red and Chazz is in Obelisk Blue. If you like Yu-Gi-Oh then you will like this book because there are different characters than in the original Yu-Gi-Oh. Also, there is a lot of dueling. My favorite part is when Jaden summons a card called Absolute Zero. The card changes all your opponents monsters to water types. If you read this the ending might surprise you.

Definitely feels like a bridge between volumes 4 and 6 rather than anything super crazy happening.

Volume 5 brings to light more secrets of the new American exchange students, especially the the one known as ‘Reggie’. We discover that Koyo Hibiki is unconscious due to a shadow game (I already guessed this two volumes ago ^_^) and now his sister is about to embark on the same journey! Meanwhile, Chazz Princeton, after beating Jaden Yuki (the hopeless, so called protagonist) is now dueling Atticus (a.k.a. Zane Trusdale) for the Academy Title. Clash of the Titans!
This manga probably contains my favourite duels so far. Chazz’s ‘Dragon’ deck (the best ever!) against Zane’s ‘Cyber deck’. There is no doubt that Chazz’s deck is more superior (from the totally bias point of view of a dragon fanatic), but on the other hand, Zane has a more experienced and mastered hand. But the interesting contrast is in the play of Reggie’s ‘Gods of Light’ deck against Ms. Hibiki’s ‘Angels of Darkness’ deck. A very spectacular show. Cannot wait to see how it ends (it’s a cliff hanger *_*)!
“This is the first time I’ve played a shadow game on my own!! I’ll show him I can resist!!...The sacrifice for my oath...Koyo’s sister…Ms. Hibiki. You’re perfect!!...Ms. Hibiki, don’t let me down. You’re my sacrifice.”
Reggie Mackenzie

Interesting…so what does this tell us?!
Not exactly ‘brain food’, more like ‘unhealthy junk’, but I say, sometimes a girl must indulge!

Pertarungannya Judai-Manjome dan Bu Hibiki-Mac sama intensnya :').

Btw, kirain bakal panjang serial ini, tapi ternyata tamat di nomor sembilan, yah. Sayang banget.
