His proposal came as a complete surprise
Frances was flattered by it. After all, Gray Crawford was a prominent figure in the speedboat-racing world.

Frances hadn't minded working as a domestic in his Scottish Highlands house, but it wasn't a career. Marriage to Gray would mean a different future....

Anyway, she didn't want to refuse him; she loved him devotedly. And even knowing Gray's ruling passion was his speedboat, Silver Arrow, couldn't prevent Frances from following her heart!

Look how blissfully happy the gorgeous heroine is on the cover of this book! Everything in her life is joyful, the future is wonderful, and her doting husband adores her.

The rule of vintage book covers definitely applies to this one. The H is a horror and she is subjected to extended periods of misery, loneliness, public humiliation, and deliberate cruelty.

Make sure you don't read this if you are feeling -- what am I saying? Don't read this.

I loved this way more than I was expecting! The characters were interesting and the Scottish setting was atmospheric and not phoned in! I found myself googling a lot of the places mentioned and I have some new travel ideas now!

Frances was a good heroine and Grey a formidable hero and his moodiness was kept at a medium level, which for a Harlequin of this era was refreshing.

This is a wonderful love story and Gray Crawford is a delicious alpha hero. Just look at this exchange.

"Her heart began to race suffocatingly fast.
'You mean . . . you'd like me to kiss you?'
He laughed, amused by her naivete.
'I don't usually ask, I take, but I'd like you to give.'"

This is one of many exchanges between Gray and Fran that had me swooning.
