What a wonderful story. It is so full of suspense and intrigue. Twin brothers Cordell and Cyrus Winchester are invited to the Winchester Ranch by their Grandmother, Pepper Winchester. Cyrus get to Whitehorse, MT first. Upon Cordell arrival, he is unable to locate his brother. Where was Cyrus? Was couldn't he feel that twin connection any more? Wait why was a woman driving his brother's truck? Raine Chandler is in Whitehorse, MT looking for clues into the disappearance of a young girl decades ago. She tells Cordell that Cyrus is in the hospital. He had been hit by a van and was in a coma. Cordell goes looking for the suspect. There is an underlying plot to this section of the Whitehorse series. Who was in Winchester family was in on the murder of Trace Winchester? Does Pepper get any answers as to who in the family wanted Trace dead? Does she get any closer?

This story is such an enthralling story. I was glued to my e-reader and couldn't put it down until I was finished. Ms. Daniels just weaves her magic in story-telling. I highly recommend this story to anyone.

Winchester twins Cyrus and Cordell have different opinions about returning to the family ranch compound after being invited by grandmother, Penny. The same grandmother that chased the entire family away when her youngest son refused to come at her demand 27 years ago.

When Cordell arrives in town, it’s evident Cyrus has already arrived but he’s nowhere to be found. What Cordell does find is beautiful ‘reporter’, Raine Chandler. She’s driving Cyrus’ truck and rummaging through Cyrus’ belongings! Not only that, Raine’s in trouble herself and on a story about child abductions. Luckily for her, Cordell’s a PI.

Cordell Winchester is supposed to meet his twin, Cyrus, so they can go see their grandmother in Whitehorse, MT. However, instead of finding his brother, he meets Raine Chandler who is driving his brother's truck. Raine is there to find the people who take little girls and then kill them. Soon Cord is protecting her and trying to help her.

Great story with wonderful character development and mystery.

TWELVE-GAUGE GARDIAN by B.J. Daniels is a bonus story found at the back of TROUBLE IN BIG TIMBER, and part of the Whitehorse, Montana: Winchester Ranch series. The fast-paced plot leads the readers into a gripping adventure with Raine Chandler and Cordell Winchester as they race against the clock to save a missing girl that revives a 16-year-old cold case. B.J. Daniels combines mystery, danger, and suspenseful action to create a spellbinding Western romantic suspense.

Raine was an investigative reporter and she had been taken from her home years ago. It is 16 years later when she's trying to get to the bottom of all of it.
She has help from a man named Cordell Winchester who is a private eye but out of state. His heart broken about what happened to her. They join together and find the people who abducted her.

Realy well written.

Complex plot

This was a well plotted story of a woman drawn back to the site of a childhood crime. She meets a PI who becomes drawn into the drama surrounding the small community. This is the first book I read from the series, and while a standalone, I suspect some of the events might have been better understood had I read the earlier books.

This is a Cowboy Romantic Suspense, and this is the third book in the Whitehorse, MT: Winchester Ranch Series. I read the second book in this series, but I do think you could read this book as a standalone. I was pulled into this story from the first page, and I did not want to put this book down. I really loved reading this book. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. I love getting to know the characters in this book.

P.I. Cordell Winchester was not inclined on a reunion with his estranged grandmother, Pepper Winchester but agreed only for the sake of his brother, Cyrus who wanted to see the Winchester Ranch if only for the last time.
But on arriving in Whitehorse, he finds a mysterious woman breaking into his brother's hotel room. According to Raine Chandler, Cyrus has been a victim of a hit-and-run while trying to save her and is now in a hospital. But Cordell has his doubts about her story. Soon his fears become a reality when he finds his brother in a coma in the hospital. Vowing to catch and bring the people responsible to justice, he is forced to take Raine's help who has her own dangers to keep at bay and keeping her safe as well as catching the culprits is going to be a hell of a job for him.

BJ Daniels has succeeded in giving to the reader an engaging mystery with several sub plots and with each character having its own story to tell in "Twelve-Gauge Guardian". The book has dark overtones and the atmosphere is that of nail biting, bone chilling suspense and lurking danger at each turn with shocking and unexpected turn of events. The author creates a sense of urgency in the reader to solve and save the innocent victims. Even the surroundings have a character of their own and are effectively used as a tool to enhance the feeling of dread with the easy and admirable use of storms, lightning filled sky, secluded farm houses, roads that become so risky that the characters are stranded, a harsh and remote terrain from where you just wish you can leave alive quickly !!

"Do you believe in evil?"
"I don't know if it is this place or what this place does to people."

The only down point is that the story does nothing to progress the base mystery of finding the killer of Trace Winchester who was always thought to have run away but whose remains had been found after twenty seven years buried on a hill overlooking the Winchester Ranch.

"Twenty seven years ago..."
"Her youngest son had disappeared, believed to have run off,"

The chemistry between Raine and Cordell is scorching and at the same time touching. I don't like anything more than a satisfying solution to a good mystery and the happily- ever- after of two love struck people and I am happy to say that I got both in this story.

"Raine realized for the first time she wasn't worried about the future.... But as Cordell Winchester came towards her, she realized she was Raine Chandler, a woman who could finally dream of a happily ever after."

A 4.5 out of 5 for "Twelve-Gauge Guardian" and a strong recommendation to read the book as well as the whole series which provides a strong family drama and some very expertly devised and executed mysteries.

For me, this was the worst in the Whitehorse, Montana: Winchester Ranch series. The premise was great, but the story quickly turned into a truly convoluted plot with little lies and untruths sprinkled here and there, an anticlimactic finale (weird, at best), and still no resolution to the main arc.

I loved the two leads though. Great interaction and wonderful chemistry. It wasn't enough, though.

The weirdest things happen to the poor grandkids in this series. I like the way Raine is tough enough to withstand everything that happened to her, the way that Cordell can manage through the crisis thrust upon him, and the fact that the Sheriff is back solving crimes. I am actually starting to feel sympathetic for Grandma now although she could still possibly be a cold blooded killer.

Continuation of the "Winchester Ranch - Whitehorse, Montana" series. Good characters. Enjoyable read. Again, another Daniels story with no use of condoms by the characters. These people were total strangers who made love on the second or third day of knowing each other. I consider an author who overlooks this to be negligent.

This was a bonus book with a Kat Martin book I bought, and I cannot believe the high rating this was given. A convoluted story line, jumps from one part to another that made no sense to me, and just not a very good effort overall.
