P.D. BACCALARIO was born in Acqui Terme, a beautiful little town in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. He grew up in the middle of the woods with his three dogs and his black bicycle. He loves seeing new places and discovering new lifestyles, although, in the end, he always returns to the comfort of familiar ones.
Loved it! Traveling all over certain parts of Shanghai and finally finding out what happens! Though the ending could have been longer because it left some questions unanswered... Like what happened between Mistral and Sheng? Did Mistral end up with the organist? Did the four ever fulfill cheering up the Earth and saving the universe for a good couple centuries? What ever happened to Ferdinand and Cecile? And Linda and Irene? Vladmir? And the most puzzling... and mysteriously awesome character... Jacob Mahler! I loved his character despite him murdering Alfred Van Der Burger. He was quite the double agent and I admire him for that.
Dragon of Seas is the fourth and final novel in the Century Quartet. It’s not the best book in this series, but it most certainly comes in a very close second. While character development isn’t as profound in this novel as it is in the last one, Dragon of Seas benefits from a much tighter plotline and actually answers some of your doubtlessly burning questions. Get it? Because there’s a dragon, and dragons breathe fire? Thus burning? Okay, yes, I’m not the best at these things. Moving on!
The intrepid Children of the Bear go to Shanghai in an effort to recover their stolen items and solve the riddle of Century once and for all. Their shaky alliance with their one-time nemesis Jacob Mahler may prove to be an asset in their quest. But their enemy, Heremit Devil, is as dangerous as he is mercurial and he’s determined to bring the full force of his assets to bear in his quixotic quest to gain power. A showdown nears…but who will stand triumphant?
We finally get answers to every single question you might have been asking. Well, most of them. The important ones, anyway. We learn just what happened in 1907. We learn the consequences of the children failing on their quest. We learn just why Devil seeks the power of Century. And, of course, we learn the secret behind Century, and it’s just as inventive (and bizarre) as you might suspect. The storyline, in my opinion, goes up a notch in quality when we get all these answers.
Less welcome is the fact that Baccalario gave himself a golden opportunity to develop the character of Sheng, the least developed main character, and squandered it. Considering that we’re in his hometown, Sheng gets a shockingly low amount of screen-time, and is sidelined in favor of characters like Elettra and Harvey. I like those characters just fine, but I think that they dominate the plot a smidgeon too much.
However, good news! Baccalario’s skill as a writer, which was already high, skyrockets in this novel. Seriously! There are passages in here which practically make me weep with their beauty. He deserves special praise for his description of Shanghai in chapter 21 and his exposition of the true secret behind Century. In my opinion, Baccalario really comes into his own as a writer. Can we have a sequel series to this one? Like now?
Surprisingly enough, Baccalario manages to wrap out the various strands of plot that have existed since the start of this series. That, plus his stupendous writing and his suspenseful plotline, make this a perfect ending to the series. There are problems with this book. But Century Quartet is, and always has been, more than the sum of its parts, and so I’m giving it a full five stars.
What an ending to this intriguing series. I tend to try to guess the outcome, but this one kept me surprised. I can say that it is certainly of the same caliber as the rest of the series. The city doesn't play the same kind of part as it does in the previous books. The resolution of many plot lines, and the new threads quickly added moving in directions entirely unexpected. Being one that doesn't like even a tad of romance in my books, this handled it briefly as one might hope, all things considered. The infatuation could definitely have taken a tone that I don't like. A critique that I know is more about person preference, notwithstanding, I couldn't help but notice the careful attention to how the females dressed. Describing their wardrobe, and the linkage to personality was unavoidable. The males were barely mentioned, if at all, through the book. So, not a book that breaks the gender boundaries. The Ulysses Moore series pushed that a tad more, but still, the female characters were not as active as they could be. Ready to start the Enchanted Emporium series, as soon as I save this!
I read the book "Dragon of Seas" by: Pierdomenico Baccalario. This book is a story novel. This book is very good and I could not stop reading it. It is full of exciting mystery makeing you wonder what will come after evry turn. I rated this book a four out of five stars because it is a very good book full of exciting mysteries that will keep your head spinning until the very end when it is all made clear.
Ok, so I thought the first three books of the series were really good, but it kinda failed with the fourth. It was way different than the others, and the ending was extremelly corny. The series didn't end quite as cool as I would have hoped.
Really enjoyed this series but gave this one a 3 because I felt like the ending was to abrupt and incomplete. After four books, I expected a little more satisfying resolution.
Good ending for the series. Some might be a bit dissapointed about the ending others may like it, others may love it. The storyline in this one I found by far the best one just because every thing came togheter. Some tables turned. There were moments in which I was biting my nails because every thing went south others in which I was cheering in side because it al comes togheter. I think everybody who reads the series will be a bit dissapointed with the ending. Just because of the high expectations that have been build op till this point. But ones you give it some tought the ending is pretty great. Aspecially if you're a history lover :).
In conclusion: Great storyline. Interesting, pretty philosophic ending. 10 out of 10 recommend. For ages 10 thru 15.

Neat ending for this thrilling series! I do think the ending was too simple, but satisfying enough. Really like the Linda Melodia personality, and wonder how could she also got the long life and totally forgot? Vladimir Ashkenazy was (or is?) a real person, an accomplished pianist. The first time his name came up, I was quite surprised haha. So... Life is about energy, harmony, memory, and dreams (and nice reference to the four elements, too). A good, rare quartet, important nonetheless. My praise to the author for the interesting idea, strong characters, and fine, fluently flowed story!
"SOME SPOILERS AHEAD" It was a nice and very pleasant book to read! I like the fact that everything they found out made sence at last! I am not sure I liked the end though. Saving the planet is a nice message but not what I was expecting from the series. I am a little unsatisfied from the end but not disappointed. Generally nicely written and a book with a lot of interesting information
Ik vond deek 4 het leukste van allemaal. Hier werd eindelijk (bijna) alles duidelijk. Maar toch had het sterker kunnen zijn. Minder wazig.
Ni Hao'yu öğrendikten sonra Sheng'in gördüğü oğlan olduğunu bir zaman sonra da Heremit'in oğlu olduğunu anlamıştım.
Heremit'in eşyaları toplama sebebi bana acayip salak gelsede onu suçlayamam.
Pierdo'dan her an yeni bir atak gelebilir yani bence.

After five years of waiting to get my hands on this book, I read it in two hours. And now my bum is sore and I'm feeling all messed up right now.
Status: Currently trying to regain my sanity. I'm not going to pick up my phone for the next few days. Just leave me alone to drown in my misery and come to terms with the fact that this series is finally over and that my teenage life has probably lost its meaning.
Goodbye, all those weekends I spent ravaging the library catalogue. It was fun while it lasted.
I really liked the ending of their search, but I really hoped Mistral and Sheng would get together. I really ship them xd. And there where some deep sentences in the end that I truly love.

I liked this series except for the fact that it didn't have any point to it. I mean, I like the type of book where the characters have to save the world or something. In this book, they were just going through a challenge called "The Pact", and only had to defeat a bad guy because he was trying to get to the same secret as they were. The ending was also very incomplete and I kind of hoped it would not be a cliffhanger. Otherwise, I liked the story and everything.

The concluding book in the series "Century Ring" held me captivated right until the end. However, the book did not wrap up as completely as I wanted it to, and story lines were left unfinished. It was a bit of a disappointment after all it had been built up to be. In this book, the four kids find answers to the Century Pact and come face to face with their ultimate nemesis. Spoiler***********--Jacob Mahler and Ermete were my favorite characters in the series.
What a brilliant ending to the quartet - loved it as much as I did the other three books. A real page-turner! I think only in this last book I finally understood it all, the pieces fell all into place. An incredibly well planned mystery which a satisfying resolution. It made me very curious in seeing Shanghai for real and left me wondering whether the author might consider writing more books about the four friends put in charge to save the world. He left the doors for it wide open ;)
So this series got me fangirling a lot, and I absolutely recommend it to everyone because it's genius. I would just like it to continue because I love it and because there are some things that weren't explained, like, did Mistral stay with the organist or with Sheng?
The book was awesome, so I give it 5 stars, it had a genius plot and characters and a lot of really good writing and description.
This book rounds out the quartet nicely and provides closure for many of the open questions. It is a dangerous tale as the four kids are in Shanghai. Harvey is kidnapped and taken to Heremit Devil's skyscraper. Heremit has most of the tops and articles. Sheng gets to play his role. They find where the articles and tops lead. In the end, they get to have a party and the kids take up the Pact.
be happy!!! its finally dawned on them that Irene and Valdimir were the previous sages!!! plus no more JOHN SMITH!!!(lol) but when will the 9th planet come and wipe them off of the face of the earth??? there must be a NEW series!!!
