Laura Watson thinks she'll never get over the pain of losing the man she loved. But when her son is born, Lieutenant Seth Keller is right there with her. The widowed Erie cop has his own reasons to grieve, but he's made up his mind to move on with his life.
Seth can accept being friends. Bonded-by-baby, on-the-verge-of-something-more friends. For now. And when the time comes, he wants to be the one Laura turns to. Can depend on. Maybe even love.
But sooner or later, Laura "has "to decide. The past or the future? Because life has given them a second chance at love. Possibly a love that can heal them both...a love that feels like coming home.
Holly Jacobs leads a life full of romance and adventure. From skydiving to jet-setting around Europe, from snorkeling in coral reefs to writing while wearing beautiful silk peignoir sets and popping chocolate bonbons, Holly Jacobs leads a life that is the epitome of romance...
Well, my fictional life sounds more interesting, but not better than my real life. Really, I'm the happily married mother of four. I cook a lot, garden and weave baskets! I write for Montlake Romance and Harlequin. My books range from lighthearted comedies to more serious dramas...but at heart, they're all stories of love.
I don't always set out to write a series of books, but seem to find myself gravitating to them. Because so many people have asked, I've posted lists of all my series in order at www.hollyjacobs.com/bookseries.html. I really try to make each story stand alone, but many of my readers enjoy reading the series in order. Hope this helps!
Thank you to everyone who's picked up a single book, or more of them. I'm so lucky to be surrounded by so much support!
I really liked this book a lot. Especially the "Homecoming Day" meaning of the title, which has to do with adopted children. It was sweet, romantic and all those good things that Holly Jacobs always delivers. Way to go Holly!
Edited upon 2nd reading: So, I had forgotten that the adopted child in this story was the hero. The heroine is a pregnant school teacher who lost her cop fiance two weeks before the wedding to a disease. The hero is the police liaison with the school district who calls her when a student is picked up for riding with a friend who drank a bit too much. The mom is being hard to locate. Anyway, they get involved with helping the student, and things progress from there. It's a good read. I liked it a lot.
Laura Watson was heartbroken when her fiancé, Jay, died of meningitis, and in addition to losing the man she loved, she lost her hopes for a happy family when she becomes estranged from his family… or so she thought. At least she still has her baby, and her students in the art classes at the high school where she teaches. And she has a new friend in one of Jay’s fellow police officers.
Lieutenant Seth Keller has suffered his own losses yet he finds himself inexplicably drawn to Laura. What started as friendship has grown into a love he never expected to feel again after losing his wife and their children. After helping Laura through the birth of her son, an unbreakable bond is formed. Now if only he can convince Laura that they can have their own Homecoming Day for Christmas as a family.
What’s not to love about a novel by Holly Jacobs? Heartwarming stories, ordinary people finding extraordinary love, gentle lessons hidden within the stories, and big boisterous families who know that their loved ones are the most important thing in their lives are found between the covers of Homecoming Day.
Laura and Seth are both wounded souls just trying to survive tragic losses. They find themselves bonding over their desire to help a troubled teen in Laura’s class and soon realize they have found kindred spirits in each other. Seeing the natural progression of their relationship from strangers to acquaintances to friends to coupledom as they both confront and overcome their difficulties and their grief makes for a beautiful and tender love story.
As a true book lover, I have to mention one very important thread of this story. I have been a reader for so long, I can’t even imagine what it must be like to have to struggle every day to finish reading the simplest of things. My heart went out to JT, Laura’s student who hides her inability to read behind a gruff and combative exterior. JT so desperately needs a little love and attention to help her overcome this difficulty. Homecoming Day brings to light the sad statistic of illiteracy in today’s teens and even, adults.
Of course, no book by Holly is complete without a loveable family and Seth’s eclectic family unit fits the bill wonderfully. His family is a blend of children and adults from all walks of life in his adoptive family. While the differences are understated, with the focus being on the family unit itself and not their individual characteristics. I absolutely love the tradition of celebrating the arrival of a new family member with a grand Homecoming Day. Such an emotional and touching reminder that families are so much more than blood, for it is simply love that unites us.
I’ve been following Holly Jacobs’ career from the earliest days and always get excited when a new book is released. Homecoming Day is another wonderful family love story that reminds me once again, families can be anything we want them to be.
I love a true romance story and Holly Jacobs delivers exactly that with this book. Two people who have lost someone they loved and planned to be with the rest of their lives meet and bond because of a baby on the way. Add in a teenager who needs help and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. .
Holly Jacobs is one of my favorite authors, she always manages to explore a social issue along with her romance. This book does a great job depicting the stages of grief, with the two main characters losing their loves very early in their lives.
This book was very sad but also full of hope. The main characters both lost someone they loved with all of their hearts but they also learned how to move on, be happy again, love again.
