Independent Feature Film Production is an essential guidebook for filmmakers. Gregory Goodell addresses the making of independent films, taking the reader through the process of the independent film's development phase: the script, commitment from the director and actors, and the legal structure necessary to raise money to make the picture. Whether interested in learning to make a movie on a shoestring budget or on a larger scale, this book guides the reader through the entire proces of developing an independent film. This new edition has been completely updated to reflect changes in every aspect of the moviemaking process. Chapters are divided into five sections: Legal Structuring and Financing, The Preproduction Package, The Production Package, Postproduction, and Distribution and Marketing.
I've had this book for over a decade and it is a practical introduction to US indie film production as it was a decade and a half ago.
A lot is still relevant and quite a bit isn't.
I have been hoping for an update for many years so I could continue to recommend it to beginning producers but it continues to faded in relevance but without a more current equivalent.
The publisher is obviously not on the ball or maybe the author and publisher are happy with the fact that it is still selling despite it's (relative) antiquity.
The best authoritative basic resource on the subject despite it's datedness.
Extreeeeeemley dense and quite dated (20 years old). The world has changed incredibly since then. However, even with 4 short years working in film, this book hit the nail on the head for all of the ins and outs of getting a film made. Learned quite a bit.
Helpful in some aspects as far as budgeting and preproduction. However, this does not replace a good chat with those who have made their own independent film...its a good "jumping off" point.
Fantastic book! Covers everything that you need to start your filming career or even distribution! I will become a millionaire because of this book - multi- millionaire!
