WRITING IN A JOURNAL

(Excerpt from a published newspaper article by Kenn Crawford (Copyright (c) 2019)

Write every day and every day you will write better. It really is that simple. Think of writing like a baby crawling around on the floor. One day, for no apparent reason, they simply decide to walk. They don’t know why it’s just something they must do. Something from deep inside makes them take that crucial first step and Wham! They fall flat on their diaper!

Does the baby say, I quit, I can’t do this ? No, babies haven’t learned the adult traits of self-doubt and fearing the unknown, he or she simply gets up and tries again. The baby doesn’t have high expectations of jogging down the street after a few short attempts. Instead, the baby just takes it one wobbly step at a time.

The following day they continue to walk and fall, fall and walk, until one day the baby is walking as if they were born to walk. If only life could be so simple. Well, it is. Sometimes you just need to look at it less like an adult and more like a baby.

You have a desire within you to write, but the self-doubting adult in you fears the unknown and stops you before you even try. The adult in you is too embarrassed you might fall on your “diaper,” so you push writing, and most of your other desires, aside as if they were nothing more than childish dreams. Phooey on you! Let the child in you come out to play! Write something, anything, and satisfy that hunger within you.

Maybe what you write today won’t be that great, but it doesn’t matter, tomorrow it will be better! And better still the day after that until one day, you’re writing as if you were born to write!

If you have that little thing in you called desire , then you have everything! You were born to write... so write!
