Bugs on the Bus

Rate this book
Editorial Reviews This is a wonderful book for beginning readers. It is a humorous story about Jack and the experience he has when he brings a jar of bugs on the bus headed for school one morning. When the bus hits a bump, the chaos begins! Bugs fly out of the broken jar and go in every direction, causing quite a big fuss! Young readers will be captivated by the drama of the flying bugs and they will be entertained by this funny story which is simple, direct, humorous, and engaging. The large-print text is predictable, repetitive, and familiar. Humorous, brightly colored illustrations of Jack, his classmates, and the swarming bugs accompany each page of text and the expressive detailed illustrations fully support the meaning of the story. There is one line of text on each page and most of the one syllable words contain the short e, u, or o vowel sound such as gets , jump , and stops . Repeated use of a few high frequency words such as there , with , and for make this text accessible for beginning readers. This book, along with the other appealing books in the "Level 2 We Read Phonics" series, is carefully written and designed to support beginning readers with phonics skills and basic sight word acquisition. On the first page, there is an introductory letter to parents with wonderful suggestions for word games that make learning fun such as Alphabet Soup and Memory. The final two pages of the text also contain specific suggestions for phonics games and activities that will help beginning readers learn the basic words that will make this story an independent read. Beginning readers will love to read this engaging story independently, and teachers will find this book to be a welcome complement to their school's reading program or guided reading book collection. Perfect early reader for children just learning to read. My 4 year old really enjoys reading all of the phonics books in this series by herself (so far she's read all the level 1 and 2 books). This one in particular made her laugh.

My 5 year old who is beginning to read loved it. She loved the simple, rhyming sentences. I thought the book was good too...
