New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Heather Graham majored in theater arts at the University of South Florida. After a stint of several years in dinner theater, back-up vocals, and bartending, she stayed home after the birth of her third child and began to write, working on short horror stories and romances. I love a good ghost story, but I'm not a fan of the vampire, werewolf and evil witch paranormal tale. I have a lot of friends who like Heather Graham, but I've never read her books. I decided to pick up this trilogy and see what it's all about. The very short story about early 19th century privateer Bartholomew and his lost love was sweet and sets up the trilogy very nicely.

As a whole I loved the book.
It cronicled the last few days of Bart's life. How he had seen the love of his life, unknown to her at the time. It covers how hegot to officially meting her and the falling in love. one of her courter's killing her and Bart being accused. Now he is left behind, Not going to the light. Bart watched time go by and how he met Katie.
I only whished it covered a little more about his back life. maybe a chapter or two of his up bringing. A chapter or two of his pirate days. A chapter or more of exactly how he first met Victoria. But in the short few pages the story kept you intrigued.

Después de leer y amar "Los Colores del Asesino" ("The Killing Edge" en inglés), hace ya algunos años, quedé con las ganas de leer más de Heather Graham. La trilogía "Bone Island" me pareció perfecta, por lo que decidí comenzar por esta pequeña precuela antes de aventurarme a leer la historia principal.
Francamente, me encantó. La trágica historia de Bartholomew y su amada Victoria me rompió el corazón, pero me dejó con el consuelo que te da el saber que tuvieron justicia. Me parece que establece perfectamente bien la ambientación y el pasado de Key West.
Ahora me muero por comenzar la trilogía. Espero que me guste tanto como creo.

A quick look into the life of Bartholomew Miller and how he came to be the ghost companion of Katie O'Hara. Although it is book #.05 in the "Bone Island Trilogy" I am glad I read it after "Ghost Shadow." My connection and compassion for Bartholomew was solidified before reading. Had I read this book first, I would have felt disconnected.

I am not really a pirate enthusiast, but went ahead and read this as it is the prequel to Heather's Bone Island Trilogy and she always tells a great ghost story. It was quite short with ALOT of characters introduced in that short time, but it definitely caught me and I am looking forward to reading this set next :)

I had already finished the Bone Island Trilogy before I realized there was a prequal. This was a wonderful way to set up book 1. The characters are portrayed in realistic ways for the time and believes of the area. You could feel the passion between the two from the very beginning. Definably putting this one on my shelf to re read in the future.

Short story not book 1
Story was okay but I would not have purchased if I had realized it was NOT a book. Need more than 55 pages to be a book worthy of purchase. It should have been the forward to book 2.

I read the trilogy as it came out, and I really liked Bartholomew. It was nice to read about his life immediately prior to, and becoming, a ghost.

I was expecting a novel, but this is a novella that sets the stage for the arrival of Katie O'Hara, who can see and communicate with ghosts.

I couldn't resist reading this prequel to Heather Graham's Bone Island Trilogy. Pirates & ghosts? Too tempting to pass up. Now I'm reading the 1st book in the trilogy.

Quick synopsis: In the 19th century, Bartholomew Miller the perfect privateer falls for the beautiful and saintly Victoria Wyeth. They meet in secret, in O'Hara's public house. But Daddy Victor disapproves, and evil suitor Eli Smith kills Victoria and frames Bartholomew. Victor shoots himself, and Bartholomew is hanged. When Bartholomew's friend Craig Beckett returns, he clears Bartholomew's name, and Eli Smith is hanged. As Smith dies, he curses Beckett and his descendents. Smith oozes into hell, and Victoria and her family ascend to heaven, but Bartholomew must remain. He watches over the years, trying to find his purpose in staying behind. He finally finds it in Maggie O'Hara, who can see his ghost. Cue sequels...

This is a prequel for the Bone Island Trilogy by Heather Graham: Ghost Shadow, Ghost Moon, Ghost Night. Since I have not read the series yet, I cannot say how it relates to the series, but the story in itself is a good one. It did its job to make me interested in reading the trilogy.
My only complaint is that it is a pay-for book and not just a free ebook. It is a publicity short book that ends with excepts from the series and really would be better to given away to get readers excited about the series.

Just read this prequel this morning. It was a Romeo and Juliet story. Juliet gets to go to the light with her parents, but Romeo is forced to stay behind to accomplish he knows not what. Thus st arts the Bone Island trilogy. It all set in Key West, Florida. Bartholomew (Romeo's real name) has waited since the days of pirates and privateering until present day to find out what he's supposed to do to be able to join Victoria (Juliet) and her parents at last. I can't wait to get started! Book 1: Ghost Shadow here I come!

That was fast! I downloaded this ebook from my library. Its the only way you can get to read it. It is a prequel to the Bone Island Trilogy. It's only about 40 pages which makes for a quick read. For those that already read the Bone Island Trilogy it is probably worth reading. Since I haven't read the trilogy yet, it has given me a little bit of history to start with. It has also made me want to make the triloy the next on my list to read.

This was a quick fun read about the pirates/merchanteers of Key West. It whetted my appetite to read the trilogy.
It quickly sets up a cast of characters who must play significant roles in the following stories and it will be interesting to see if the honorable families stay that way throughout and if the treacherous families remain so or if there will be blurring of the lines.

Loved this series. Bartholomew was a funny Ghost and I loved his sense of Humor. I would actually burst out laughing (yes I was alone) with some of his antics. I only hope that if I ever am able to talk to Ghosts it is one like him. Heather really had me hooked on her books with this character. I am on a quest to read all of her books!
