E.M. Forster's Modernism

Rate this book
This volume is a comprehensive investigation into Forster's relationship to Modernism. It advances the argument that Forster's fiction embodies an important strand within modernism and in doing so makes the case for a new definition and interpretation of "modernism".

A great study of Forster that pays particular attention to his reaction to the "New Liberal" ideology of the 1910's. I was able to use this one extensively in my research on Forster's stylistic reaction to the nineteenth century social novel. Clearly written, though perhaps spends a bit too much time on Formalist approaches to "A Passage to India." Otherwise, an admirable academic work.
