The Missing Coins - John Escott (1992)
[Penguin Readers Beginner (Level 1)]

Genre: Fiction/ EnglishGradedReaders
Pages: 16
Rating: 7/10

Theme: Crime/ Mystery/ Stamp collection

Opener:
“Bath is a very old city in England. It has a beautiful Abbey. A lot of people visit the city every year. And in the summer, there are always a lot of tourists in the streets.”

Summary:
Pete and Carla are both students at the University of Bath. One day in summer they are walking around the city and decide to look at some very old coins and stamps in a shop. Pete wants to buy some, but they are too expensive. Later that afternoon the coins are missing from the shop and the shopkeeper wants to find Pete.

Final Review:
The story was kind of interesting, but the ending kind of soured the taste. There seems to be a pattern with these stories, always finishing with some kind of reward for the protagonists at the end. It is sort of off-putting. Otherwise, the story was good.

Suitable for English learners

Simple words with simple storyline. The trick is also simple. The storyline itself is not outstanding, though it is important for a learner to be confident by reading up A book. This book is suitable for learners to get that confidence. Multiple times of this experience will provide a motivation to read more and more.

this book is very easy to understand for foreigners who want to improve their reading. Most of the sentences were written in present simple tense.

I think this book was cool, I wish there was a part 2. so this book was about a girl and a boy were walking around the streets and they saw a man using a flute and then they gave some money and then they said he's not a really good flute user then they went to a shop. they saw some coins and stamps from different countries and they asked the shopkeeper if they can see it and they went out. then the boy wanted a drink cuz it was so hot then the shopkeeper came and asked and he said that there was a mising coin and stamp.
